I managed to secure an unpaid internship at a HR Firm in the city that specialised in managing recruitment for large corporations. The main responsibilities during the intership was to handle the applicant communications in the form of emails. I was also allowed access to the requisition forms submitted by the clients and the recruitment process designed specific to the requirements. |

During the time that I wasinvolved with the organisation I was able to observe the field of recruitment from a much closer point of view. I was able to identify the process used by the recruitment firm to understand the requirements of the client and design the recruitment process according to that. It is my firm belief that my experience working at a real place of employment have developed in me skills that will improve and augment my academic learnings in a meaningful manner. |

With regards to the choices for the internships, I believe it will be better for me to diversify my portfolio with regards to work experience as none of the intership opportunities, given the time limitations and the reduced scope of the work there, allow me to gain significant advantages in the job market by itself. However, if I can diversify my portfolio to an extent where I have a working knowledge of a variety of fields and a valid experience working in these fields, it would greatly help my employability prospects in my opinion. With regards to the development of the technical skills, apart form the cureent course at the university, I have also enrolled in Leadership and Management course, Work Health and Safety Certificate course and Project Management Essentials Course. These courses allowed me to gain measurable and marketable qualifications that in addition to my academic qualifications and work experiences would allow me to gain meaningful employment in the job market. In the future, I plan of taking an online certificate course in the use of Agile and Lean project management techniques as these will allow me to further grow my marketeability. I am fully prepared to wait and develop my self before seeking full time employment, however, I am not prepared to spend that time away from the the job market. I do intend to continue seeking internship opportunities while pursuing thse courses or possibly part-time jobs if that can be made possible. Apart from the above mentiond process and cources, I also belive in diversifying the knowledge base through more unstructured ways. To that regard, I have been searching for and going through online journals, magazine articles and videos regarding ancillary topics and their relation to or impact on management. This is designed to improve my knowledge base in the ancillary fields and make me comprehend the terminology and practices of various fields in relation to my desired job titles better. This I believe will help me ion being a better communicator, and a better manager. |
