7049SOH Principles of Management and Leadership
Introduction
It may be opined that effective leadership styles may play a crucial role to manage and handle the entire operation of a healthcare organization while ineffective leadership skills may increase the problems which may affect a healthcare organization. In this essay, the challenges of leadership styles and the development of effective leadership styles to develop an effective team will be discussed in detail.
Description of the challenges faced by global healthcare leaders and managers
It may be opined that the old leadership styles may create a negative impact in a healthcare organization while it has been observed that old leadership styles of the healthcare organization are not able to meet the target which created a negative impact and affected the entire operation of the organization. On the other hand, it may be opined that a doctor needs to be a leader which is extremely essential to provide proper healthcare to patients and increase the performance of a medical team of the healthcare organizations (Hargett et al., 2017). Moreover, it may be stated that due to the old leadership style the health organization has faced several problems such as the absences of healthcare staff has increased day by day and the negative feedback of patients also affected the healthcare organizations. Furthermore, it may be noted that it is extremely difficult and essential to improving the feedback of patients while the weak organizational structure and lack of organizational readiness are the main reasons for patients’ negative feedback (Sheard et al., 2017). In addition to that, lack of leadership skills is the main reason for late responses which harm the life of a patient while healthcare organizations need to implement effective leadership skills to deal with these challenges.
One of the biggest challenges that are faced by the global healthcare leaders is the ineffectiveness of the workforce while it has been mentioned that due to old leadership styles the effectiveness of the workforce has decreased significantly. Additionally, it may be that the ineffective workforce in healthcare organizations is the main reason for patients’ dissatisfaction. On a contradictory note, it may be implied that the leadership styles of a healthcare organization are directly related to the satisfaction level of patients as well as it also creates a positive impact on the environment of the hospital (Asif et al., 2019). Apart from that, on account of the ineffective leadership of the healthcare organization, the absent level of healthcare staff is increasing day by day which created a negative impact on the performance of the healthcare organization. In addition to that, the existing leadership styles of the healthcare organization are not able to prevent team conflicts which are treated as a threat for the healthcare organization.
Moreover, it may be argued that team conflicts in a healthcare organization consist of blaming, using toxic languages, ineffective communication and many more which may be incurred by misunderstanding and affecting the mental health of healthcare workers (Cullati et al., 2019). In addition to that, the manager and leaders of healthcare need to mitigate the leadership gap while due to old leadership styles the motivation level of employees has decreased significantly. On a broader note, it may be derived that there are many challenges that may occur from poor leadership in healthcare organizations such as organizational structure and Human Resource challenges while effective leadership is a valuable asset of a healthcare organization (Ghiasipour et al., 2017).
It may be opined that the leadership challenges of the healthcare organizations need to be resolved by implementing effective leadership styles. However, it may be argued that it is extremely essential to make healthcare more authentic and reliable through effective leadership which may play a crucial role in enhancing the safety of patients (Jungbauer et al., 2018). In addition to that, if effective leadership may not be implemented then it will increase the challenges which may create a negative impact in the healthcare sector.
Leadership and management theories
It may be stated that the manager of a healthcare organization needs to implement effective leadership styles which will help to mitigate the challenges of the healthcare organizations. On a broader note, the managers of healthcare organizations need to use transformational, transactional and ethical leadership which will be extremely helpful to mitigate thesis problems and increase the effectiveness of the healthcare organization. Moreover, it may be derived that transformational leadership needs to be individual which is extremely effective to increase the motivation level of healthcare staff while physicians use these leadership styles to increase the motivation of subordinates (Fletcher, Friedman & Piedimonte, 2019). However, transactional leadership also plays a vital role in enhancing the effectiveness of teamwork even though transactional leadership is extremely effective to mitigate conflict issues in healthcare organizations. In addition to that, implementation of effective leadership styles is extremely essential in healthcare while there is a link between effective leadership styles and the job satisfaction level of healthcare workers in a healthcare organization (Deshpande et al., 2018).
It may be derived that effective leadership skills of healthcare professionals improve the quality of healthcare services and also create a great impact in enhancing the satisfaction level of patients. On a similar note, it may be noted that transformational leadership is more effective than transactional leadership which helps to create a significant impact to identify the measures in resolving the challenges of a healthcare organization (Lowe et al., 2017). One of the features of the transactional leadership styles is that transactional leaders operate a healthcare organization through executing active control which is extremely effective to resolve the problems (Saravo, Netzel, & Kiesewetter, 2017). Furthermore, it may be asserted that the healthcare managers need to implement the transactional leadership styles in an effective way which will help to increase the engagement level of healthcare staff and decrease the number of absences in healthcare organizations. On the other hand, transformational leadership and the creativity of management of a healthcare organization create a beneficial impact on the success of the team, organizational productivity and commitment (Ranjbar et al., 2019). Additionally, it may be derived that transactional transformational leadership styles are extremely impactful to increase the motivation and passion of healthcare professionals. It may be stated that the primary feature of effective leadership is that it needs to consist of emotional intelligence, self-awareness which evaluates the encouragement and ambition of an effective leader (Mango, 2018).
It may be stated that the healthcare organization needs to build effective management that will help to manage and handle the healthcare staff of the organization. On a similar note, it may be derived that the features of effective management is to operate the entire function of the healthcare organization which consists of planning, organizing, budgeting and problem solving skills which are described by Henri Fayol as well as the Administrative theory is treated as one of the most popular management theories in the healthcare sector. Moreover, it may be argued that healthcare is a complex field while the role of quality management in a healthcare organization is to provide a supreme quality service to meet the satisfaction level of patients (Aggarwal, Aeran & Rathee, 2019). In addition to that, the healthcare organization needs to establish effective management which will be extremely impactful to bridge the gap between the entire systems of a healthcare organization and leadership styles.
On the contrary, the behavioural theory of management by Elton Mayo deals with a psychological stimulus that is extremely effective to establish a healthy working environment in the healthcare organization. Moreover, it may be asserted that the managers of a healthcare organization need to manage and handle the conflicts by executing positive initiatives which also helps to deal with the conflict issues and observe the effects (England.nhs.uk. 2021). Additionally, it may be defined that the theory of scientific management by F Taylor is also effective in maintaining time management which helps to manage the entire function of healthcare institutions in a fruitful way. Furthermore, it may be derived that the management of a healthcare organization needs to establish conflict management which is extremely effective to recognize the causes of conflicts such as extreme workload, hectic schedule and low pay (Saridi et al., 2021).
Implementation of leadership and management characteristics that need to overcome current challenges of healthcare leaders
It may be stated that the management of the health care organizations needs to implement the leadership and management theories in an effective way that will help to mitigate the managerial and organizational challenges of the healthcare organization. On the other hand, it may be opined that healthcare organizations need to use different management techniques which will be extremely impactful to improve the quality of service and help to reduce the cost of the services through implementing lean management techniques (Aij & Rapsaniotis, 2017). Moreover, it may be stated that effective operating management also helps to mitigate the problems of the healthcare sectors which ensures a better quality of service. Additionally, it may be noted that operating management systems also establish the scope of learning and innovation while the main approach of operating management is to identify and resolve the critical challenges of a healthcare organization which increase the reliability and authenticity of the organization (Day et al., 2018).
In addition to that, the manager and leader of a healthcare organization need to establish and training management which will help to increase the effectiveness of healthcare workers. However, it may be argued that effective clinical leadership skills need to be implemented by the physicians which is extremely impactful to establish the process management and change management skills and enhance the effectiveness of integrated primary care (Nieuwboer et al., 2019). It may be derived that the manager of the healthcare organization needs to drive an organizational change through implementing new leadership styles. Moreover, it may be implied that modern healthcare organizations such as the National Health Service (NHS) have increased leadership vaccines which will help to improve the leadership qualities of the organization and result in more collaboration in the workplace of healthcare staff (Kingsfund.org.uk 2021). Furthermore, it may be asserted that the management of healthcare organizations needs to implant transformational and transactional leadership which will create effective communication and help to achieve the organizational goals. Apart from that, the safety of patients in a healthcare organization is totally dependent on the leadership skills of the manager of the healthcare organization while the management and leadership styles affect the working staff and environment (Murray & Cope, 2021).
However, it may be stated that an ineffective leadership style may create a negative impact in providing the services to patients. Furthermore, it may be derived that implementation of effective leadership and management styles is extremely essential to develop the medical curriculum which ensures excellent service in individual patient care (Till, McKimm & Swanwick, 2020). In addition to that, the management of healthcare organizations needs to use effective leadership styles which will be extremely effective to identify the features of organizational context which create a positive impact in evidence-cantered practice in a healthcare system (Li et al., 2018). It may be stated that the manager of healthcare organizations needs to emphasize creating knowledge management which will help to increase the knowledge in managing the entire healthcare organization. Along with that, healthcare is extremely essential to save the lives of humans while the implementation of knowledge management plays a crucial role to maintain excellent healthcare practices which help to recognize the disease of people (Almansoori et al., 2021).
Description of the way to enable and develop effective teamwork through leadership
It may be derived that the healthcare organization has faced several issues due to the lack of effective leadership and management styles while it is the duty of the management of the healthcare organization to enable and develop effective teamwork which helps to mitigate these problems. On the other hand, it may be derived that effective teamwork is extremely important to provide quality service and maintain the safety of patient care while breaking the complex work may enhance the effectiveness of the team (Rosen et al., 2018). Moreover, it may be opined that successful implantation of leadership skills will help to mitigate the conflict between team members and help to develop effective teamwork in the healthcare organization. Furthermore, it may be derived that it is extremely essential to promote effective teamwork in a healthcare organization which is also important to meet the requirement and needs of patients and healthcare organizations (Ryan, 2017). Moreover, it may be argued that it is the main role of the effective leadership style to create collaborative goals which will help to enhance and develop effective teamwork in healthcare organizations. In addition to that, the management of a healthcare organization needs to use lean management which will provide proper education to healthcare professionals and may play a vital role in developing an improved team (Abdallah, 2020).
It may be derived that the management of the health organization needed to motivate the employees through effective leadership which will be extremely impactful to decrease the cases of conflicts and help to build an effective team. One of the biggest benefits of effective teamwork is that it may help to provide supreme service to patients which result in positive feedback from patients. On a similar note, it may be derived that the management of a healthcare organization needs to influence the team through effective managerial techniques which will help to enhance the job satisfaction of healthcare professionals (Dahlke, Stahlke & Puspoky, 2018). Furthermore, it may be asserted that management of the healthcare organization needs to track and monitor the performance of the entire team which will be extremely effective to build and develop teamwork. One of the most effective ways to improve teamwork is to provide proper training and simulation while organizational designs also help to improve teamwork (Rydenfält, Odenrick & Larsson, 2017). In addition to that the management of the healthcare organizations is required to celebrate the success of the team of healthcare professionals which helps to enhance the motivation level of employees. Additionally, it may be derived that effective teamwork is extremely important in a healthcare organization while there is a link between effective teamwork and the performance of healthcare professionals (Schmutz, Meier & Manser, 2019).
On the contrary, it may be argued that it is the responsibility of healthcare workers to define the role of healthcare staff and the implementation of effective leadership and management skills to assemble the team. Along with that proper training and education is extremely essential to increase and improve the effectiveness of teamwork while defining goals and creating practice scenarios may help to develop an effective team (Dirks, 2019).
Conclusion
From the above, it may be concluded that it is the responsibility of the healthcare organizations to implement effective proper management and leadership styles that will be extremely impactful to resolve the challenges in a fruitful way. In addition to that, the management of the health care needs to change the old leadership styles and needs to executed new leadership skills which will be helpful to build and develop an effective team.
