3. Review of research papers
The research papers chosen have been emphasizing on the concept of Lean manufacturing and its impact on the various aspects of mechanical engineering. As stated by Rekha et al. (2016), the first research paper is about a lean manufacturing process that has helped an automotive manufacturing company to reduce their lead time on the CNC shop floor.
The significance of the using LEAN tools in the manufacturing process even helps for cost saving. Various issues arising within the manufacturing process depending on the mechanical engineering aspects have been eliminated within the organisation with the help of Lean tools.
It has effectively helped the steering gear box producing industry to attain sustainability and produce adequate amounts of products to generate effective profit outcomes.
However, the second paper has been focusing on waste elimination rather than eliminating various issues within the manufacturing process (Chaudhari and Raut, 2017). The journal has emphasised on the innovation that have helped to improve the mechanical sector and help in attaining sustainability with the help of reduced production of wastages.
It has been revealed that Lean helps in reducing the production cost and time consumption as well. The cycle time of the manufacturing process has effectively reduced the amount of waste in a Nut Bolt Manufacturing Company.
Muda, Mura and Muri are the three lean tools that have helped the organisation to improve its manufacturing process entirely.
The third paper provides insight to the efficiency of lean and “six sigma” within the field of mechanical engineering (Sodhi et al. 2020). The models that used to develop manufacturing processes within various industries have been emphasised within this research paper.
The Lean Six Sigma model which is widely used within the mechanical process of manufacturing is the main focus of the study. Its efficiency and impact in the improvements of the entire manufacturing process have been mentioned. The data for the research have been obtained from various established literature works on the same topic.
This research journal is based on the small and medium enterprises within India which have been using various lean manufacturing tools. In the viewpoints of Shah and Patel (2018), the wide use of lean manufacturing tools in the manufacturing industry have been emphasised in the research paper. Reduction of wastes within the mechanical based manufacturing process has been possible because of the lean tools.

5.1 Critical analysis of first research paper
Methodology
The research methodology used in this research work is qualitative as all the data collected through primary and secondary resources are non-statistical. The data that have been collected from the secondary resources belong from the data registered within the organisation regarding the mechanical instruments used (Rekha et al. 2016).
Opinions of the various stakeholders working within the manufacturing industry have also been taken for attaining data which further comes under qualitative methodology. Group discussions have been arranged for attaining their suggestion regarding the application of lean tools for reducing the lead time of the mechanical instruments.
Data collection
Primary and secondary methods have been used for the data collection process. Group discussion with the various stakeholders of the organisation’s manufacturing process including people like labours, engineers and line supervisors has been executed.
This can help in obtaining data from first hand resources that are working within the manufacturing industry and applies Lean manufacturing tools for improving their entire manufacturing process.
The secondary data collection process has allowed the researcher to attain organisational data regarding the cycle time, setup time and change over time of the mechanical instruments and equipment used in the manufacturing process from steering gear box manufacturing industry.
Interpretation process
The data collected from primary and secondary resources have been analysed in the research work with the help of qualitative data analysis process. The data that have been collected from first hand resources have been analysed to obtain relevant and useful information that can help to properly establish the research work.
On the other hand, data collected from secondary resources have been carefully analysed by the researchers according to its relevance to the mechanical engineering subject of lean manufacturing. Application of various lean tools within the steering gear box manufacturing industry have been analysed with the help of the interpreted data.
5.2 Critical analysis of second research paper
Methodologies
Secondary quantitative methods have been used in the research work of lean manufacturing techniques within the nut bolt manufacturing company. As stated by Chaudhari and Raut (2017), the main aim of the company is to increase the number of nut bolts which are to be dispatched.
This has been done by reducing the cycle time of the process by removing non essential work in each process stage. Production rate has been improved by firstly identifying the machine operating problems in the company and how they are working. Each and every machine of the industry has been examined properly and their working is also checked to identify the problem.
The problem needs to be identified to improve the quantity of production with reduced non essential services.
Data collection
All the operational data regarding the manufacturing process have been collected for the research work. Data which has been collected is of the problems found in the industry. After identifying and collecting the data the company has been working on every report and the working of the machining has been improved.
The nut bolt rate has been increased by using the lean manufacturing technique. This technique has reduced the waste production in the industry and the efficiency of machinery has also been increased.
The data collected has helped in knowing the cause of waste production in manufacturing of nuts and bolts and how to reduce the wastage by using lean method techniques and improve the production rate.
Interpretation process
The data has been collected in the form of bar charts and tables with the help of these charts and Tables Company has made a record of time taken by each process. The data collected after the using lean method technique shows the reduction in time that each process requires.
The various functions are changed in the processes so as to enhance the efficiency with reduction of time consumed.
The interpreted information has further revealed that the quality of the products have also been improved with the application of the lean tools within the manufacturing process.

5.3 Comparison between the findings
The fist research papers have been emphasizing on the lean implementations within the CNC shop floor that can help to reduce the lead time. This time reduction can help to save expenses of the organisation within the manufacturing process.
However, the other research papers have been focusing on the waste management within the manufacturing process of an organisation with the help of lean application.
Two different objectives have been fulfilled in both the research papers with the help of the lean tools. The main comparison of the research papers are based on the findings of both the papers.
The results of the first analysis have revealed that value stream mapping has helped the company to reconstruct its manufacturing process in a certain way that has contributed to lead time reduction. In the viewpoints of Kumar et al. (2018), introducing Kaizen and VSM units the manufacturing process can help to reduce the cycle time of producing an item and not even helps to save the organisational resources.
The research work has effectively identified all the non-value added activities within the manufacturing process and helped the organisation to eliminate those for reducing the time and resource consumption. Another lean tool line balancing has been applied for making the process fast and convenient for the labourers working in the production unit of the automotive component manufacturing company.
This tool has helped to utilize the number of labours used for a single task and make the process more efficient.
On the contrary, other research papers have been focusing on the lean tolls of MUDA, MURA and MURI which contributed to the waste reduction within the manufacturing process.
The research work on the nut bolt manufacturing company has found that while producing more numbers of nut bolts the company has been excessively producing more waste. This has been causing wastage of resources as well as money (Oey and Nofrimurti, 2018).
The cycle time of nut bolt manufacturing has been reduced effectively with the help of lean manufacturing tools. This has also helped to eliminate non-value added activities from the manufacturing process. Quality management can be obtained with the help of the tool application.
6. Impact of analysis on knowledge gaining
The analysis of these existing research papers have helped to attain knowledge about Lean manufacturing. Usage of various lean tools has been understood while analysing the two chosen research papers. In the mechanical manufacturing process lean tools help in reducing the amount of wastes produced while manufacturing the products.
The first research papers have provided knowledge about lean tools such as VSM, Line Balancing, Work standardization and eliminating non-value added activities. However, the second research paper has provided knowledge about lean application for wasting management and control in the form of MUDA, MURA and MURI.
The knowledge gained from analysing the research papers would be helpful in the professional future years. This knowledge can help while working within any mechanical manufacturing company. It will help to get employed in any reputation manufacturing company.
7. Conclusion
As a conclusion, it can be said that lean manufacturing is a process that has helped to induce sustainability within the mechanical manufacturing process. Various lean tools have helped to save raw materials and organisational resources and have effectively improved the productivity of the manufacturing process within any business organisation.
In total four research papers have been chosen for review. Showing two of them has been chosen for developing compassion and critical analysis. This analysis has helped to attain insight on lean manufacturing. The engineering research techniques used in the research papers have helped to promote entrepreneurship and quality management within the manufacturing industry.
