- Introduction
In this essay, I am going to identify my competencies and skills. This essay would further shed light on critically appraising of own personal needs and identification of key competencies. For personal development establishment of personal vision is the first step. The next step understands where you are at present. For my personal development, I need to work out areas where there is a need for the improvement of abilities and skills. I am also aware of my weaknesses and this would enable me to take steps for its address them.

2.1Identification and critical appraising of own needs of personal development and key competencies such as communication, leadership, team working and social interaction
There are three ways in which “personal developmental skills” are identified. Firstly the behaviors, skills, and knowledge are identified for the job. Then it is being seen whether those skills fit the skill requirement of the job. There is a need for finding the behavior, skills, and knowledge that I have. Then the skills that I possess are compared with the skills that are required for the job. The gaps that are identified are many “personal development needs”. I know that I require training for contributing to the success of the organization. I need some kind of training and the training my training needs are universal. Every member of the team is unique and I like other members of the team have different skills, understanding, objectives, and responsibilities. If the training is tailored then it would be more effective at improving my personal development skills better and I would feel much more empowered. This would help in boosting my morale and well-being. According to Sharma (2019), personal development is a “lifelong process”. It refers to how people assess their qualities and skills, considering the aims of life, and sets goals for realizing and maximization of the potential. For my development training programs would be conducted. I have poor skills in decision-making and in such a case I would like to focus on skills of decision-making. My existing expertise would not be considered for training purposes. Continuous appraisal and training would ensure effective personal development. Certain skills are more intrinsic and those usually arise from the internal willingness and the efforts required for accomplishment. Hence, for my personal development, I need to have the qualities of problem-solving, decision-making, and proper management of time. I would be able to develop these skills through training and continuous practice.
I possess key competencies in certain areas. Shinina and Mitina (2019), stated that the key competencies in the area of leadership are social intelligence, interpersonal skills, and ability of conflict management. Though I am poor at decision making those skills need to be developed for being a good leader should be keen at making decisions. I possess emotional intelligence, a compelling vision, and the power to manage and motivate people. These skills would be required at the workplace as well. Leadership competencies refer to the combination of various abilities, knowledge, and proper skills for the representation of leadership within an organization. While In will move out to work somewhere then I would require these skills for maintenance of good reputation at the workplace. People management is an important skill that I possess.
The key competencies sin teamwork that I possess is good communication skills, the ability to solve problems, listening skill, critical thinking, and collaboration. All these skills are required for attaining a superior position at the workplace. A person is required to possess good communication skills for ensuring effective teamwork. The skill of proper time management is essential both in my academics that I am pursuing currently and would also aid in professional development. Project managers possess good organizational skills for the management of goals and keeping the activities of the team on a proper track, and ensuring that the project meets the deadlines. I have the skill of problem-solving. Instead of focusing on negative results, stay calm and would help in teamwork which will be effective in providing of solution. I also have good listening skills and I always try to keep my mind open and broad. I am aware of the fact that I lack the critical thinking skills which are required for making informed decisions. There is a need for thinking critically for understanding the best action that could be taken. Working with teams often become challenging however, at times it provides a good opportunity for discovering creative ideas, sharing experiences and different perspectives. Furthermore, it helps in enhancing skills. I would try to develop myself personally so that I acquire the skills of decision-making and critical thinking skills. For becoming a leader I would try to demonstrate strong skills of teamwork which would help in collaboration where I would also be able to work as a mentor or coach. I have the quality of getting along with the team as I have participated in teamwork, seminars, and other different activities where there was the need for collaboration among the team members.
Kasenge and Muleya (2020), opined that the key competencies of communication are clarity, cohesion, friendliness, confidence, empathy, respect, open-mindedness, listening, and emotional intelligence. The skills of communication would help me in understanding the instructions given by my seniors, in acquiring new skills, asking questions, making of the request, and relying on the information. Possessing good communication skills is considered as one of the basic skills that one should possess. In today’s competitive environment communication skills are very important. Any kind of breakdown in an organization can be resolved through proper communication and if there is a breakdown in the channel of communication then objective, morale, and efficiency everything suffers and comes to a still.
According to Pasha and Ahmed (2017), emotional intelligence refers to the ability of managing and understanding emotions to ease the process of communication, in overcoming stress and challenges. This skill needs to be learned over time and the four main pillars of emotional intelligence are self-management, self-awareness, relationship management, social awareness. Through good skills of communication, messages are communicated concisely and clearly. Lack of cohesion and clarity confuses and making poor decisions and thus should be avoided. In every type of interaction, there is a need for confidence however, overconfidence is harmful. There is a need for empathy and respect is the next skill of communication. The main thing about good communication is the ability to listen clearly. Moreover, my open-mindedness would help me in getting a competitive advantage and would benefit the organization where I would be placed after I complete my academics.
Mariappanadar (2019), opined that the key competencies of social interaction are effective communication, respect, empathy, active listening, relationship management, and conflict resolution. Social skills are important for carrying out communication daily. Social skills include both soft skills and interpersonal skills. Social skills are important for the gaining of information, for collaborating, and for making the workplace enjoyable.
2.2 Identification of people management tools, strategies, and procedures
Along with personal development skills, there is a need for understanding the procedures, tools, and strategies for the management of people. Sekhar (2019), stated that people management refers to the process of acquisition, retention, and optimization of talent. It helps businesses by providing continued support and guides the employees.
People management strategies involve rewards and recognition to the best performers, acknowledging contributions, encouraging improvement through skill and career coaching, looking for leaders closing of thoughts, common goal. These strategies of people management help in achieving the success of the organization. People management procedures and tools help in managing people in the organization and thus help in understanding the mindset of individuals. For managing people, they should be rewarded and recognition should be given to them as best performers (Mulolli, Boskovska and Islami, 2020). The best employees of the organization should be aware of the fact that their efforts would be recognized. There is a need for positive feedback regularly for making a positive contribution in the attainment of the overall goal of the organization. The employees of the organization should be provided with skill and career coaching for helping them in their current career opportunities. The people should be motivated towards the accomplishment of the common goal of the organization to help in the overall development of the business. I need to administer effective strategies for managing people for the successful running of the functions of the organization. However, this would become easy with the leadership abilities and capabilities that I possess. With the help of leadership abilities, capabilities, and good communication skill I would be able to develop effective people management strategies. The concept of people management is similar to human resource management. According to Abdushukurovna (2021), people are an important resource or any organization. People and finance are the most crucial resource for the successful running of the organization and hence they should be motivated for giving their best in the best interest of the organization they work with.

It can be concluded that all personal development skills are not inborn some need to be acquired, learned, and accomplished through proper training. However, these interpersonal development skills whether inborn or acquired should be possessed by an individual as it helps in academics as well as in the workplace. Other than personal development skills there is a need for knowledge and understanding of strategies, tools, and procedures for the management of people. However, people management refers to the process of human resource management. The essay discussed about the need for the development of interpersonal skill and how it helps in workplace as well as in academics.
