Introduction

The widespread emergence of the pandemic COVID-19 affected almost all sections of society especially affecting the career of the students who are about to finish their studies and are in search of appropriate jobs. Due to this pandemic, the government has taken up certain necessary measures that will reduce the contamination among the civilians and will help in the prevention of the spread of the disease. Therefore the companies that seemed to have opened their vacancy for recruitments led to the drop in the job postings. The transformation of the entire process of working which is “work from home” affected a lot of companies and led to the decline of the recruitments as most of the students seem not to have the support of the modern techniques.

Aims

The primary aim of this is to focus on how the job careers of the non-European students got affected and how their life changed due to the widespread pandemic all over the world.

Objectives

The main objects will focus on the following:

  • To identify the perceptions of the non-European students
  • To make a proper identification of the challenges faced by the non-European students
  • To acknowledge and provide strategic recommendations

  • What are the challenges faced by the non-European students due to their changes in perceptions due to the emergence of COVID-19?

  • What are the most potential strategic challenges for non-European students in order to cope up with the adverse situation?

Research gap

Analysing the current situation, in the UK workforce, almost 7.6 million jobs seem to be at risk due to the lockdown for the pandemic (Mckinsey, 2021). This further makes the process of recruitment quite vulnerable for the non-European students in their hunt for desired job roles. Lockdown affected immensely the working of economic activities, which thereby affected the entire economy of the country of the UK (Bou-Hamad et al. 2021). The posting of the jobs for vacancies has lessened down due to the negative impacts on all the sectors of the economy which sums up to almost 50 per cent (Babicka-Wirkus et al. 2021). The nature of work changed to a “work from home” basis and therefore many limitations are imposed on the students who are looking for jobs.

Conducting the research on the job hunt aspects of the non-European student’s certain positive aspects are also figured out. The introduction of the “work from home” jobs have helped students to do two to three jobs simultaneously. It also helped them to earn more revenues. Working from home also provides them with ample time for further education and elevates their learning and knowledge on the concerned field (Zhao et al. 2020). While working from home the students can save their daily expenses of transport and can access too many other facilities. The aspect of work from home will also provide facilities like it will help the employee to work on a homely environment and will help him or her cherish the moments with his or her family members. The employee can work comfortably which will help consequent increase in the level of creativity as well as in the productivity level. Furthermore, the employee will stay motivated as the individual will not feel too much pressure from the chain of hierarchy. The employee can work effectively and will also time to develop his or her own self by successfully working on the weak areas.

Challenges for Non-EU students in getting a job during COVID19

Various challenges are faced in the aspect of job hunting by non-European students due to the prevalence of the pandemic all over the world. The posting of jobs on online platforms is massively reduced with the introduction of pandemics. Over more than 50 percent of the job, vacancies have fallen down due to the adverse effects on the economy of the company as well as the country, which is due to the broken structure of the finance (Jojoa et al. 2021). Pandemic affected the field of finance to almost all the sectors of the country, which led to hinder the process of recruitment and vacancies.

Pandemic led to the closing up of the universities, which created difficulty in getting important education credentials and led to delays in the process of recruitment. As per the Kwan et al. (2021), due to the imposition of the government laws for reducing containment lead to the change of the working process, which is “work from home” lead to “technological difficulties” for the students and also significant problems in the “process of communication”. This also created many limitations in the field of work thereby decreasing the opportunities of the job. The effect of the pandemic also led to the lowering down of the “qualification required” at the workplace (Matthew et al. 2021).

Theoretical analysis

In coping up with the situation of the widespread emergence of the pandemic COVID-19, the “AMO or Ability-Motivation-Opportunity” theory can be implemented to reduce the negative impacts on the students. According to Christensen et al. (2020), this theory caters to the increase in the performance of the work at the concerned workplace by significant improvement in the three above-mentioned aspects. The three aspects such as “motivation”, “abilities” and “opportunities” help in the potential engagement of the employee towards his or her allocated task. The application of all these aspects helps in the rapid improvement of the employees thereby increasing the efficiency level that tends to increase the performance at work (Ding et al. 2021). Moreover, the implementation of this theory will help the employee to accomplish the allocated task on the mentioned time with better performance.

The three independent aspects of “motivation”, “abilities” and “opportunities” help in promoting the positive factors that contribute to the success of the organisation. This report also analyses the “AMO theory” to enhance the conditions for the students in starting their job careers.
