Project management consists of a fixed and organised team along with team leaders (Meng and Boyd, 2017). The project manager acts as a supervisor that handles the entire project with his skill and knowledge. After making a proper plan, project managers tend to communicate with all the team members respectively in terms of knowing their strengths and weaknesses. The communication process with the team members is important to understand whether those team members are eligible for that project or not. Furthermore, project managers try to consult with team members according to their positive or negative approach under a specific construction project.
Managing a budget is one of the crucial factors that has been reviewed and critically handled by the project managers. Leading a team among competitors within an organisation is the main goal set by project managers in terms of growth under an organisation for career development (Demirkesen and Ozorhon, 2017). A project is a long term process and proper contribution from the team members is the main demand of a project manager. Ensuring all the team members according to their level of understanding, the project manager gets involved in developing time and schedule of the project. Beginning of the project, project managers aim to provide proper and informative data that includes the total structure of the project. However, customers or dealers tend to change a few areas even after confirming the project process, which creates difficulties within a processing project. Controlling the entire project is quite difficult, yet proper knowledge and guidance of a project manager lead to success under the construction project.
Monitoring a project is important to identify errors and obstacles of the project. Moreover, project managers try to handle the critical phases of a project in a project. On the other hand, project leaders try to appoint an expert candidate from the project team to handle the critical phase within a project. Documentation process is properly and sincerely handled by the project manager before the final submission of the project. The role of a project manager is to maintain a project with expert and skilled vision, as proper vision is the key to leadership success in a project. Positive and appropriate culture within a workplace is the key to success. Culture is the reflection of an organisation’s background. Construction industry’s demand is high in the market, as people are engaged in making their residences. On the other hand, the maximum generation that belongs from the undeveloped cities or countries are working in the construction industry (Radujković and Sjekavica, 2017). Additionally, most people with lower educational backgrounds have been involved with the construction industry for ages. People from all age groups are working in the construction sites. Moreover, people from different genders are also working in this industry, as per the requirement of the construction industry. Therefore, the construction industry has successfully made a proper culture by maintaining a large scale population. A construction project is mainly handled by the civil engineer’s vision and mission. Civil engineers tend to organise an appropriate plan according to the client’s needs. After the final confirmation from the clients, civil engineers discuss with the project managers about the construction deal.
The continuous process along with proper visualisation of achieving a mission brings positive reflection within the workplace. Even customers also get influenced by a proper framework and positive culture within an organisation. Lawani and Moore (2021) have stated that culture depends on the working professionals also, as employees of an organisation are main characters that take part in organisational works. Ethical behaviours of working members enhance the working culture of an organisation under the construction industry. Culture is the base of an organisation, as people notice the entire working culture before the confirmation of the projected deal. Accurate and perfect work processes of team members tend to improve the culture within an organisation. Culture enhancement is possible by the positive approach of higher to lower levels of employees within an organisation, especially in project management (Nocca, 2017). Customers develop their trust after seeing the positive approach along with a well-organised framework from the project team under the construction industry.
Discussion related to role of culture that impacts the role of a project manager
The culture reflects the reputation and background of an organisation and such reflection also boost the motivational power of project managers in the construction industry. The project managers are always appointed for complicated projects, as per their capability (Jiang et al. 2017). A positive culture within a workplace enhances the performance of the working employees within an organization. Additionally, a positive environment or ambience brings motivation to the team members of a construction project. The construction work includes huge responsibility along with the innovative vision that attracts the customer’s attention also. Nowadays, project managers try to connect with old clients to get continuous work as per the requirement and needs of the clients. On the other hand, citizens only rely on those project managers that have successfully met all the requirements to renovate a building. A positive and sincere approach develops within project managers by the appropriate and foremost ambience within the workplace. However, a negative culture does not build confidence in a project manager.
The principle of Functionalism shows that a lack of confidence and motivation hampers the entire work under a construction project. De-motivation from work leads to organisational failure and that hampers the working culture in front of competitors. Negative and inappropriate culture effects on the continuous workflow of a sincere project manager (Oyemomi et al. 2019). Moreover, negativity appears within the working culture due to unethical behaviours and poor collaboration within the shareholder within an organisation of construction industry. There are a few norms that can be understood by reviewing cultural theories. The conflict theory of culture shows that inappropriate behaviour appears while individuals do not agree with each other point of view. Del Giudice et al. (2017) have announced that such behaviours directly impact the reputation and brand image that hampers client’s reliability. The purpose of Conflict theory shows that team members with different points of view tend to impress the senior leaders or the project manager within a project process. Therefore, disagreement between team members is one of the reasons that culture affects a workplace (Dwivedi et al. 2020). Nevertheless, the motivational factor reduces from the project manager in order to peacefully handle a team for achieving project goals.
The concept of motivation within construction project management
High motivation is the key to success while being a part of a construction project. The project managers try to cheer all the team members with a positive approach. People always get attracted towards negativity by over thinking which hampers the motivational spirit. Sanchez and Terlizzi (2017) have propounded that maximum people lose their confidence by over thinking and that attracts the negative energy within them. As a result, people cannot concentrate on their work. Project management includes various operations, analyses and programs that are divided among all team members by the project manager. Being a supervisor, the project manager aims to keep calm and positive to increase the motivational spirit within. As per Herzberg’s motivational theory, people get motivated toward their work by getting proper guidelines and support from the seniors. In a construction project, there are several challenging tasks and analysis processes, which are critical to understand (Men and Yue, 2019). For instance, project managers include multiple skills to increase self-motivation to guide a whole team with a crystal clear vision and mission.
Great motivation helps in achieving organisational goals, which is beneficial to get rewards and positive feedback from the project manager. Herzberg’s hygiene factor shows that the complication occurs due to less communication between senior and junior employees. Working under-construction sites is quite different and difficult (Banihashemi et al. 2017). The purpose of Herzberg’s hygiene theory is that identification of risks and issues are required to maintain regularity and positivity within a project. Team members are always dependent on the supervisors that can guide them within the project process. To finish a task within a deadline, it is necessary to remain calm and motivated to achieve success within a project. Motivation plays an essential role to execute a work perfectly. Furthermore, Motivational spirit is carried out by successful project managers by having such leadership skills within them. The motivational approach from the project managers helps identify the strengths and the weaknesses of an entire team. Following the instruction of project managers is the key to success, as project managers have experience of feeling success or failure. Successful projects are done by the proper and mastermind supervisors due to his expert vision. The supportive attitude from the project managers helps project candidates to work on their difficulties without having fear. Individuals feel insecure while not understanding the project limitations and project process by the team head. Somehow, the identification of uncertainty within a team member is a valuable segment for project managers. Cao et al. (2017) have discussed that by rectifying issues, a project process can run smoothly and an experienced project manager focuses on identifying those areas of uncertainty. A project manager includes with great responsibility several projects and assignments. During the project, team leaders aim to communicate with each team member and leaders also suggest all team members discuss together while working as a team.
In some cases, working staff of a team tend to solve problems on their own without getting seniors’ opinions. As a result, they get the appreciation that builds motivation and dedication within them (Creasy and Carnes, 2017). On the other hand, few members act over-smart by copying other strategies without discussing them with the project manager. For that reason, a hazard moment occurs within the project process, which is less beneficial in order to finish a task on the given deadline. Somehow, risk moments have been handled by the team leaders by motivating team members with a positive approach. Guidance and support from the team head are one of the reasons that team members perform better within a project under the construction industry. In the execution, control and monitoring process, a proper guide and support from team leaders to motivate all the responsible persons. As per Wu et al. (2017), such an approach and guide is the reflection of proper leadership style to improve difficulties in a critical situation. The project managers tend to apply different styles and techniques to complete a task through team members. Project managers have been appointed in a project to handle a team that included members of different ages and personalities. Various tools and techniques are required to handle a bunch of people. Project managers try to motivate those team members that are with less visualisation of success in a project (Ahmed and Anantatmula, 2017). People do carry several attitudes along with different natures and they try to behave with others according to their perspective. However, a rigid attitude and a lack of interest in knowing new and innovative things are one of the reasons a project fails. Sincere approach from the project managers helps team members in order to value addition through their tremendous performance. Project leaders tend to communicate with those team members that feel uncomfortable keeping viewpoints among many people.
The project managers aim to make them feel calm by using simplified tools and techniques. In some cases, language differentiation is a major reason that few people do not understand the requirements of a project (Zhang et al. 2018). Being a guardian of a project, project managers try to communicate with team members with concerned language. Tools that are mostly used by the project managers are to develop project plans in simple ways, which is easy to remember and understand. Time management is a major segment, as people work within an organisation for 10-12 hours a day. Therefore, maintaining a time is crucial to finish the project task before the deadlines.
Developing a day target for all the team members in order to increase the workflow within a project process is one of the techniques used by Team leaders or project managers. Consequently, a day’s target can be achieved by the team member by maintaining deadlines daily and this boosts their energy level to work more (Boton et al. 2021). Giving breaks while team members require is one of a technique to keep motivated team members, people get frustrated while doing continuous work for a long time. Apart from that, spending time on understanding a team member is another technique in terms of reducing risks from the project operation and programs.
Evaluation related to teams learning outcomes that lead to successful project
The project manager feels that simple and proper guidelines are beneficial for gathering effective outcomes through team members’ performances. The project manager gives value to teaching difficult tasks eventually rather than simple tasks. Developing trust and reliability is one of the achievements of working under sincere project managers. Positive outcomes appear while getting motivation from the seniors level persons (Cooper and Sommer, 2018). In some cases, project leaders tend to misbehave with weak team members for completing the task anyhow. As a result, participants cannot understand the needs and requirements of a project and they could not finish the task without croissant deadlines. Learning process is lengthy, as several complicated tasks are appointed by the task providers. Furthermore, the understanding level increases by executing all given tasks by following the project manager’s instructions. Project managers are experienced by getting achievements. Therefore, they have knowledge or ideas to guide a weak member to handle a critical situation by being calm and confident.
Team members’ positive responses and doing complicated tasks easily is a great achievement within a project. Brassler and Dettmers (2017) have described that efficient work is required to handle a project in the construction industry. Spending huge attention on the project is the basis of a successful project. For instance, being guide project managers keep motivating the team members to achieve goals.

From the above discussion, it can be concluded that project managers handle a team eventually and positively through their expert skills and knowledge. Time management is the key to success for completing tasks within the actual time. The entire report has analysed the basis of the culture and motivation that affects the role of a project manager. In construction sites, people from different countries aim to develop their future by fulfilling their job responsibilities. Being a fresher, people aim to develop their knowledge and skills by adopting great performances. Moreover, work procedures are different in various construction projects. Therefore, people get confused while working in a new or different place. For that reason, project managers focus on handling all team members equally for eliminating a chance of conflict. The study has analysed that a proper leadership style makes project managers more sincere and dedicated towards the job responsibility. Project managers are the responsive persons that manage project budgets by themselves. In addition, arranging resources with the team members in a project process can develop a bond between project leaders and members.
Recommendation
A positive approach from the supervisor or project manager will be beneficial to execute a project perfectly. Construction projects are quite difficult, as people make changes even after the confirmation. As a result, work pressure increases and team members along with the managers get frustrated to do the same work again (Yu et al. 20187). Therefore, to handle such a situation there should be a confirmation from the customer as per their needs. While working together on a project team members aim to have the same attention from the project manager or else they get de-motivated from their sensible work. Thus, to improve such a situation, friendly behaviour from the project leaders will be helping him to maintain peace within the project process. In some cases, project managers’ minds get diverted while handling multi challenging situations and this happens due to the negative climate or ambience within the workplace (Teo and Loosemore, 2017). Therefore, the working culture needs to be filled with positivity, which is beneficial l for the project managers to work potentially.
Deadline is most crucial for the clients, as they think their work will be done as per the confirmation of the project team. Consequently, to develop a balanced approach from the clients, final submission without crossing the deadline would be fruitful for the project manager. Team members struggle while doing complicated tasks and lack of support can make them feel scared towards completing tasks (Shao, 2019). For instance, proper guidance along with gentle support from the team leaders or the project managers will be increasing the confidence level of the weak member. Budget fixation is the complicated part due to markets changing value. Therefore, maintaining a proper project budget would be beneficial to arrange all resources from the market to complete a project within the deadline.
