HOTO7016 Mentoring and Leadership Development 2.POSTER 2.1 Leadership Style Leadership Style is the methodology of giving directions, implementation of plans and giving directions to people. Transformational Leadership is chosen for this assessment as it speaks about working as a team to achieve the desired goal. It also identifies the changes needed to create a vision in motivating the people (Shinogi et al. 2018). There are four elements that justify a Transformational leadership are: idealized influencing, inspirational motivations, intellectual stimulations and individual considerations. The personality traits that a transformational leader needs in order to be successful are: Keeping aside the ego as this makes a positive impact on the people, risk taking ability is what a leader needs to make plans into actions. Self-management can be considered as a difficult skill which very few leaders can do and this is considered as an effective personality trait. Adapting to changes in life makes a transformational leader stand out of the crowd (Shinogi et al. 2018). Transformation can only be achieved when a leader is open to new ideas and according to me new ideas can evolve when sharing of knowledge is fulfilled. From the analysis of OCEAN model which is also known as Big 5 personality traits I came to know about its importance in building a Leader are: Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness and Neuroticism. Openness to people and new ideas makes a leader communicate with everyone and I think I am having 60% openness. Conscientiousness towards work can lead to climb the ladders of success and I am 70% Conscientious towards my work. Extraversion attitude in the right place and right time can help an individual to interact in an effective manner and I am 75% extrovert which can give me an advantage to be a great leader (Ganesan, 2017). Agreeableness shows a friendly attitude towards others thereby providing an extra advantage towards being a public figure and I am of 70% agreeable nature. Neuroticism is a personality trait which deals with mental conditions of a person during mental pressure and I have scored 50% in this matter. Looking closely at everything I can tell that I am efficient enough to be a leader and bring change. 2.2 Mentoring Activities Mentoring in leadership gives us an overview of what leadership strategy looks and how great leaders help in restructuring the system with great abilities to bring a transformation (Ganesan, 2017). These skills of leaders allow in a speedy progress of a state or an individual and it is a very effective way of development. There are four stages in mentoring, which are: Preparation, Negotiation ability, enable growth and closure. Preparation Preparation of strategies that can lead individuals and states to achieve big dreams by following the guidelines of a mentor (Ganesan, 2017). Exploring the personal motivation so that others can be influenced by the mentors and join hands in building up the desired goal. Establishment of clarity among individuals helps a mentor to set proper activities for different individuals. Building up a bond with another person can provide a positive impact for better preparation of strategy. Negotiation Ability Mentors have to know to negotiate with partners and keep a healthy bond with them so that good relations can be maintained to carry out the task in an efficient way. A mentor needs to set boundaries and limitations to every task performed by them in order to make others realize the importance of each and every task (Sharma, 2020). The information regarding the task has to be kept confidential in order to reach greater heights. Mentors need to be aware of responsibilities and must know to take responsibilities and make criteria related to success. Enable Growth Mentors need to communicate in order to develop open plans for growth and to meet the requirements of growth (Sharma, 2020). The progress in learning can be a huge advantage as knowledge related to growth will be the main concern of the learning process. Monitoring the learning can be very beneficial for mentors to understand ability of an individual to grasp knowledge. Mentors need to ensure that learning goals have to meet learning outcomes and provide individuals with the benefits to learn. Closure Mentors need to be aware of closure of some activities of proceeding growth and advancement. Evaluating the learning goals to make sure that learning is done in a proper manner (Sharma, 2020). Personal learning has been taken into consideration for long and effective impact on growth and success. 2.3 Leadership Competencies Leadership Competencies are the knowledge, skills and behaviour that a leader possesses. A leader needs to verify the progress made in the plan and keep a track of the progress report so that potential can be measured and steps must be taken for improvement. Staying aware of the outcomes is also the main concern of a leader and to get positive outcomes a leader needs to motivate people.
