Case study 2

Pay for performance and recognition for performance are two different forms of employee motivational strategies (Han, Bartol, & Kim, 2015). In the first case, the employees are provided with monetary benefits based on the performance of the employees, whereas, recognition is non-monetary. Employee motivation is important in many ways, first it improves the loyalty and trustworthiness amongst the employees, retention increases within the company, improves achievement of goals, and increases cultural values amongst the employees.

Pay for performance is however the most commonly practices motivational strategy because this approach comprises of increasing the total amount of earning from working and makes the employees happier and motivated to perform effectively in the future (Nyberg, Maltarich, Abdulsalam, Essman, & Cragun, 2018). Even though the pay per performance includes monetary benefits for the employees, one of the biggest challenges is that in this strategy the employees do not have a fixed salary and is not a feasible motivational strategy in the long run. Another disadvantage of using this motivational strategy is that this method of workforce is biased because people with more experience will have better experience and therefore performance over newer employees or employees with less experience (Hamel, Roland, & Campbell, 2014). However, it is a very effective strategy in better recruiting; development of a competitive culture and performance oriented culture, and increased efficiency of operations.
