Part A-Academic essay
In order to develop the introduction of the essay food industry of the United Kingdom has been selected in this context. It has been noted that the food industry in the United Kingdom is considered as the largest manufacturing sector in the country and this industry has helped in employing more than 4 million employees within the country and generates nearly £121 billion annually.
The food industry is very optimistic in the country and it offers a lot of opportunities for the expansion sectors in two markets namely The United States and China. The essay will highlight the characteristics of the targeted profession and the challenges that are faced by these professionals and finally, this section will be concluded by discussing the impacts of these challenges and difficulties of the professions.
The second section of the essay will focus on the Overview of the context and key characteristics of the targeted profession. As per the idea of Till, McKimm&Swanwick(2020), it can be stated that the food and drink industry in the United Kingdom is the largest manufacturing industry in the United Kingdom and it helps in forming a part of the complex and diverse chain of supply.
In addition to this, it has been noted that the food and drink federation of the United Kingdom is responsible for reporting the performance of the sector on a regular basis. Furthermore, it has been identified that the food and drinks industry of the country helps in contributing to the economy of the country more than any other sector in the country.
As influenced by the idea of Ding, Choi & Aoyama(2019), it can be stated that more than 430,000 people within the country are employed within this sector of the country and the employment in the food and drink industry has an exponential growth of 19% over the last decade.
The targeted position in the industry is the role of the marketing manager. As per the idea of Gürlek&Çemberci(2020), it can be said that there are various characteristics of the same and some of the characteristics of the managers are the ability to manage the marketing initiatives of thecompany, utilization of the market analysis and research for directing marketing planning and strategy.
Additionally, the marketing manager also has the capability of overseeing promotional materials and the campaigns of marketing. Finally, the marketing manager also has the capability of reporting the sales and the marketing to the senior executives. Furthermore, it can be stated that there are many opportunities for the graduates in the food industry in the United Kingdom as the food industry is one of the biggest manufacturing industries in the United Kingdom as highlighted by Adams (2018).
This section of the essay will shed light on the key challenges and issues relating to the food industry in the United Kingdom. In reference to the context of Megheirkouni&Mejheirkouni(2020), it can be stated that the issues that are faced by the food and drink industries of the country are also the issues that are posing threats to the marketing manager profession in the industry.
Some of the challenges faced are the changing climate of the United Kingdom. The impact of the heat followed by a wet spring has had both long-term and short-term effects on the farming industry in the United Kingdom which ultimately affected the food industry of the country.
The second challenge faced by the industry is the shortage of labour and this was due to the presence of the aging workforce, an increasing population, and uncertainty if the Brexit can be considered as the reason for the growing issue of labour shortage in the industry.
These issues can be considered as the professional body viewpoints of the marketing manager of the food industry. In addition to this, for having a detailed knowledge of the challenges faced by the company, the case study of Brakes Group, UK has been considered and some of the challenges faced by the same are difficulties of the existing management screen of the warehouse, data entry of the users, cost of the training because of the on-boarding of the employees.
Some of the other challenges that are mentioned in the academic article are because of the advances of the technologies in automation and robotics as stated by Adams &Velarde (2018).
Therefore, it can be stated that if these issues and challenges are evaluated then it can be stated that the challenges that are faced by the food industry of the country because of the uncertainty of Brexit and to some extent because of the incapability of the companies within the food industry to adopt all the advanced technologies and this has further lead to the vulnerability of the food companies in the United Kingdom towards the Cyber threats.
Furthermore, it can be stated that no matter what the industry is, the important role of robotics, automation and technology cannot be denied. In addition to this, it can also be stated that if the companies become capable of understanding and adapting to the technologies, the shortage of the labour can be to some extent overcome but there will still need of the human employees because of the problem-solving capabilities as well as the capability of analysing the issues and managing the output.
As influenced by the idea of Gordon & Gordon(2017), it can be stated that unsustainable production of food leads to the threat of the security of the food. In addition to this, the production of food will be impacted by the changes in the climate.
Additionally, evaluation of the same helped in identifying the cause behind the climate change and the main reason behind these changes of the climate is due to the increased frequency of different events of the weather such as droughts, storms, and many more.
Hence, it can finally be concluded that in order to combat the challenges that are identified in the previous section the executives, as well as the managers of the food companies, need to plan strategically for mitigating the risk of all these threats. Finally, coming to the end of the section, it can be concluded that there are many impacts of these challenges that have been identified in the previous section.
This section will be utilized for highlighting the difficulties for a marketing manager in the food industry is moving ahead in his or her career. The challenges that are identified in the previous section can have deadly impacts on the food company as well as the job security of the marketing manager of the company.
In addition to this, it has been noted that there are many challenges to the food sustainability and security in the United Kingdom and the population is estimated to exceed 10 billion by the end of 2050 (Norris, 2017). This will further lead to the increasing demand for the food and leading to pressure on the finite source of the resources.
Additionally, thegrowing population will be wealthier and this will also have an impact on the changing way of the purchasing of the food. On the other hand, there will be increasing demand of the land, water, and energy as there is a chance of all the resources to be exhausted by the end of 2025. Therefore, it can be concluded that all these impacts will have negative effects on the job security of the marketing manager of the companies of the food industry of the United Kingdom.
Therefore, it can be concluded that the negative impacts on the production of the food will lead to the emission of the greenhouse gas as well as the scarcity of water and many other issues of biodiversity as highlighted by Daniëls, Hondeghem&Dochy (2019).
The system of food in the United Kingdom is failing badly in delivering to the humanity and therefore, it needs to change and should also consider all the socio-cultural interactions as well as the issues of the equity and in particular the requirements of the poor people who spend a large amount of their income on food.
In addition to this, keeping in mind all the impacts, it can be stated that these issues will also pose a great threat to the continuation of the food industry in the United Kingdom, which will further put the job of the food industry professional in danger.
Therefore, these are the problems that the postgraduates, who are thinking of entering the food industry in the coming days of their career, might face in the future, as stated by Gil, Rodrigo-Moya &Morcillo-Bellido, (2018). In the present times, one of the greatest threats to the food industry in the United Kingdom is the threat of Corona Virus, maintaining safety level in food industry is one of the main things that should be done. Additionally, it is also the responsibility of the employees of the food industry to make the food as well as the person making is safe from the deadly virus.
Part B – reflective essay
In this section of the essay, I will discuss about the strengths and weaknesses of my character and I will also evaluate the same for identifying the inter-personal skills and the intra-personal skills for entering into the profession that I want. As per the idea of Bush, Bell &Middlewood(2019), I have noticed that self-analysis identifying my strengths and weaknesses across a range of interpersonal and intrapersonal skills relevant to the target profession will further help me in rectifying the weaknesses that will be identified in this section of the essay.
I have used two toolkits for testing my inter-personal and intra-personal skills. The two tests that I have used are 16 personalities test and the workplace questionnaire. Furthermore, in this section I will take the help of Kolb reflective cycle for further analysis of my strengths and weaknesses. My personality type on the basis of the 16 personalities test is ISTP-T or Virtuoso and I scored medium in all the aspects in the Work place questionnaire test.
Concrete experience: On the basis of the experience that I had while doing the test I identified that I have certain strengths and weaknesses. As per the idea of Anthony(2017), it can be stated that Virtuoso is very much energetic and optimistic. In addition to this, I have identified that I am also very practical about the things that are happening around me and I am also rational and I know how to prioritize things on the basis of the importance of the tasks. These are all the strengths of the virtuoso.
Therefore, I can state that the test gave correct results. On the other hand, by this test, I identified some of my weaknesses such as I am stubborn and reserved and at times I face difficulties while sharing some ideas with my classmates and in addition to this, stubbornness might sometimes lead to danger in the professional lives as well.
Therefore, for the weaknesses also I have found the correct results. On the other hand, I have also done the workplace questionnaire test and this gave me a medium score, which means that I am extraverted as well as introverted depending on the situation. Additionally, Ihave thinking capability as well as my thoughts make me feel deeply at times and depending on these feelings I develop intuition and these intuitions help me in making judgments and this further helps me in gaining emotional stability.
In this section, I will try to shed light on the reflective observation of the new experiences that I had while doing the two tests. These two tests have helped me consider the implications of my skills, attributes and patterns of behaviour in terms of the profession of my choice (Krajcsák, 2019).
Additionally, in this section, I will also try to elaborate on how my skills and strengths can help me in overcomingthe challenges they face that are mentioned in the section A of the essay. On the basis of the strengths that I have identified by the 16 personality test, I can state that it will help me in overcoming any difficult situations. For instance, I can put my hands into action during any kind of labour shortage.
Additionally, during environmental changes, I can use my mind-set for fitting into the new situations with the implementation of very little effort and make the entire situation versatile and flexible for all the individuals working with me or under me. Furthermore, with my strength of capability of prioritizing things I will be able to understand the need of the situation and also let my company know what technologies are needed to cope up with the upcoming diversities of the food industry by the end of 2050.
I want to become a marketing manager of any of the renowned companies in the food industry in the United Kingdom. Therefore, I can say that all the strengths that I have identified will help me in becoming a marketing manager of the food industry.
In addition to this, the other tools kit that I have used has given me a medium scorewhich means I have all the qualities such as introversion, extraversion, feeling, thinking, intuition, sensing, judgment, perception, and many more, However, as I have scored medium in this test, I will have to improve these skills of mine for solving the issues and overcoming the challenges.
In this section, I will try to focus on the weaknesses that I have identified by the two tools listed, and also try to find some suitable ways of overcoming them. In Kolb’s reflective cycle this steps is known as conceptualization.
In reference to the context of Baron et al. (2018), it can be stated that this step of the Kolb’s reflective cycle helps in giving rise to some new ideas for modifications of the issues that are identified in the previous sections. Some of the weaknesses that I have found are stubbornness, risky behaviour and the reserved characters of my personality. These weaknesses can hinder my steps toward becoming a marketing manager in the future
Additionally, I can state that I need to overcome these weaknesses of mine and this can be done by reducing the stubbornness and this will further lead to the reduction of the reserved behaviour of mine. In addition to this, the reduction of these weaknesses will help me in moving forward in my career and thereby I will be capable of becoming a successful marketing manager of any company in the food industry in the United Kingdom.
Furthermore, I also need to improve my introverted character, which is related to the reserved character of mine. Therefore, it can be stated that by improving the introversion, I will be capable of changing my perception and this will further help increase my emotional stability.
Finally, I can say that with these improvements I will be capable of handling all the challenges that have been mentioned in the previous section and in this way I will strengthen my position in the company. Furthermore, being sensitive and having a sense of strong feeling with greater emotional stability will help me in overcoming the corona virus pandemic crisis.
Here, I will try to apply all the ideas that I have developed in the previous section and apply them to the real-life incidents. This step of Kolb’s cycle is known as the experimentation step (Prommer, Tiberius & Kraus, 2020). This is the step that can be used for doing experimentationwith the ideas that are generated in the previous section of the essay. Additionally, I have identified the strengths as well as the weaknesses and also the steps that can be used for overcoming the weaknesses.
In this section, I will try to examine how the weaknesses can be overcome. I can change my stubbornness by opening my mind to different ideas and concepts and this will help me in identifying other ways by which I can overcome these weaknesses of mine. In addition to this, with the change of the stubbornness I will also be capable of overcoming my reserved nature as this is related to the stubbornness.
Therefore, I can state that reducing stubbornness will help me in solving my issue of reserved nature. Furthermore, I will be able to change my risky behaviour also by the yelp of decreasing my stubbornness. Furthermore, I can state that I will be able to become a successful marketing manager only with the help of overcoming my weaknesses and concentrating more on the strengths that I have identified in the previous section.
After analysing my strengths and weaknesses with the help of two toolkits namely, 16 personalities test and workplace questionnaires, and analysing them with the help of Kolbs cycle, I can state that all my strengths can outweigh the weaknesses that I have found out by the two tests. In addition to this, it is still needed to recover the weaknesses for making myself completely ‘ready’ for entering into the career of my choice.
In addition to this, I can also state that the weaknesses of mine can hinder my steps towards becoming a successful marketing manager of any of the companies in the food industry of the United Kingdom. Additionally, I have also noticed that the strengths that I have identified can also help in making my career smooth and flawless and I will also become a successful marketing manager in the future. As influenced by the idea of researchers and scholars, the conversion of the weaknesses into strengths will further strengthen my position in the food companies in the United Kingdom.

Part C – Areas for Development
In this section, on the basis of the self-analysis that I have done in section B, I have identified three areas, which need further development and in addition to this, I will also outline some of the specific steps that I will consider to address these issues. The three problems that I have identified are stubbornness, reserved nature, and risky behaviour.
As per the idea of Gupta, Kulkarni& Khatri(2018), it can be implied that improvement of these behaviours can help me in becoming a successful marketing manager in the future. Some of the steps that I can follow for the development of the three identified areas are mentioned below.
The stubborn nature of mine can be changed by self-analysis and I will have to change my nature for the betterment and I will also have to let go of the negative emotions and in addition to this, I will also have to show myself some compassion.
Smiling in the mirror and talking to myself would also help me in changing the stubborn nature of myself. This will help in changing the stubborn nature of nature, as stated by Golensky& Hager (2020). I can improve the reserved nature of my personality by the hl of communicating with as many people within the company as possible. In addition to this, it can be stated that the more communicative I can become, the easier it will be for me to become a successful marketing manager in the food industry in the future.
My risky behavioural nature can be changed with the help of decreasing the level of stubbornness and reserved nature. This will further help me in making myself more open to different new ideas and thereby communicating with other employees easily. Finally, this will be helpful in making one capable of becoming a successful marketing manager in the future in the United Kingdom, as highlighted by Sanyal&Rigg (2021).
Therefore, it can finally be concluded that the strengths that I have will help in developing my skills, and thereby I need to always focus on my strengths for qualities of mine in order to become a successful marketing manager in the future.
Furthermore, the steps that I have mentioned in the previous section will also help in solving the issues such as handling shortages of labour, the inability of coping up with the technological advancements, and the controlling the adverse effects of the climatic changes. Hechanova, Caringal-Go & Magsaysay (2018), This is the reason why I need to keep my strengths intact and work on the weaknesses as this will further help in making me strong and fight all the adversities and obstructions in the way of becoming a successful marketing manager of the food industry in the United Kingdom.
Additionally, these steps will also help me in overcoming the issues that the food industry will have in the future because of the growing population. Finally, I will conclude by saying that I need to rectify all my weaknesses for handling this pandemic situation and make myself fit for entering into the food industry in the future.
As influenced by the idea of Adams(2018), it can there be said that as food industry is one of the largest manufacturing industry, therefore, this industry needs to be taken care of very carefully.
