Introduction
Reflective writing always focuses on experience based learning which enhances the knowledge base as well as helps in the development of practical skills. Working in groups helps participants to improve their collaborative skills and provides an opportunity to practically imply their rhetorical learning. Driscoll’s Reflective Model is one of the major models that help to reflectively write about the learning and experiences.
Driscoll’s Reflective Model
This reflective model helps in writing reflectively about the experiences and learning obtained from participating in any activity. This helps in representing reflection in a systematic and in-depth way that provides an overview about the learning that I have attained from the business stimulation.
All the aspects of reflective writing including primary and secondary reflection and future intentions will be presented with the help of the Driscoll’s reflective model. The first step of this model includes primary reflection as it stated about the situation. The second portion includes secondary reflection as it consists of exploration of the situation. In the future intentions have been presented in the porting of practical implications.
What? (Description of the situation)
I have been provided the task of developing strategy for the Global volunteer company and identifying two of the future scenarios as a part of strategy within the voluntourism industry. Participating the business simulation have provided me insight the voluntourism industry and its operation.
Companies like Global volunteer company executed their operations within the industry for the welfare of the society and helped in mitigating various special issues throughout the world (Globalvolunteers.org, 2020). The current condition of the industry had to be analysed firsts for assuming the potential of the industry. It required help from the secondary data resources which were relevant and authentic.
I had to search articles, journals and books for case studies and relevant information that can provide me an overview of the industry. Depending on the evolution and current condition of the industry, the potential or expected growth has been analysed. The two scenarios that I have mentioned have been developed depending on the technological advancements within various industries.
The overall experience of teamwork has been pretty challenging for me as I have never worked in a collaborative environment before. According to Wu et al. (2017), communication is the key aspect of team development that contributed to the positive work result of any collaborative work. Communicating with the team members and working with coordination have been the main challenge of the entire stimulation.
However, gradually I have learnt to communicate with fellow team members and participative work on the stimulation activities which have enhanced the result of the business stimulation. Some of the members have been pretty difficult to communicate with but as time has passed our interrelationship and team dynamics have improved effectively.
The key topics that I would like to explore further as the technological advancements that vol tourism industry cab attain and effectively get benefits from them. The modern research and technology can help the industry to attain automation and reach to the needy people throughout the globe.
Usage of drones have already been started to send medicines or essential items to the people stuck in war zones or in any natural calamity (Banki and Schonell, 2018). Other technological advancement can be explored effectively. The opponents of the industry that can contribute to its global expansion can be explored as well. This industry and its various assets have been unemployed as it is a non-profitable and welfare industry and limited people take interest in this industry and companies.
So what? (Exploration of the situation)
The business simulation that we have executed as a group assignment has certain failures and successes. The main issue that started within the team includes the authoritative nature of one of the members. The leader of the team made all the important decisions of the simulations. I am less experienced in finding data on secondary sources which is why I faced certain difficulties in finding relevant and authentic data for business stimulation.
Then my teammates helped me with it and at last I was able to find the “Human Relations Theory”. I chose this theory because the main aim of this theory is to help people relate themselves with other people and understand the condition in which they are suffering. This theory can be applied to the voluntourism companies (Solomon and Steele, 2017).
The volunteers sent by the companies are treated without any discrimination as stated in the theory. The volunteers aid the needy and poor without any greed of name and fame, which justifies the main aim of the theory as well as the company. This theory has effectively helped in the establishment of the business simulations.
Collaborative effort has been opined with the prosper work execution and positive simulations results. Though the leader of the entire stimulation group has been strict regarding the activities and its execution process it has helped in the on time completion of the entire stimulation. The ideas and concoct within the business simulations have been contributed by all of the group members. The team leader was sceptical to accept but gradually learnt to accept and respect different opinions and utilize it for the simulations.
On the contrary, the group member’s autocratic leadership skills have contributed to the efficient management of the team. The group members who have been provided the task of obtaining relevant data for the report have efficiently sought authentic data for the stimulation.
In the viewpoints of Malik et al. (2017), the job division has helped in eliminating any sort of confusion within the operations of the team. Each of the members exactly knows what their responsibilities were and executed their responsibilities properly.
The knowledge and skill set of the group members have been utilized in the business stimulation as they have been assigned with activities that are effectively required to compile the knowledge and skill set. This has enhanced the quality of the entire group assignment. This has contributed to a professional relationship within the entire team which eliminated any wastage of time while executing the task.
The team dynamics have helped in properly completing the stimulation without any interference or disturbance (Eubanks et al. 2016). The group has slowly and steadily progressed and achieved positive results in the stimulation. I have always reacted professionally towards the group members. The group dynamics have helped in completion of each of the activities within the intended time period.
Now what? (Practical implications of the learning)
After participants in the business simulations I have attained knowledge and skill that can be used in the future years when I get employment opportunity. This opportunity has helped to shape the team’s working ability in me. Based on the viewpoints of Creasy and Carnes (2017), it is fair to say that the ability to work within a team with collaborative effort can help a candidate to attain positive review within the workplace. People are entitled with tangible and intangible benefits because of their team dynamics.
I can also attain progress in my professional life with the help of the team working skill and ability. The experience of participating in such an activity has contributed to self development of mine that can help me to get employed in an organisation after completion of the academic years.
I have been provided the responsibility to identify the future trends in the Voluntourism industry in which I have incorporated technology and basic requirements of the industry that needs to be fulfilled. Technology in the form of robotics can be used within the industry to reach the peoples who have been infected with viruses or any other disease that can easily be transmitted with human touch (McStay, 2019).
Hence using automation to serve people can be an effective way of utilizing technological advancements within the industry. On the other hand, the expansion of this industry can contribute to establishment of volunteer companies in the locations and countries where people need the most. Companies from this industry would invest in attaining globalization and expand their operation into various locations.
This can help in reaching to the people of need within time. Developing these two scenarios for predicting the future condition of the voluntourism industry have been pretty challenging as old case studies have to be analysed thoroughly for identification of the possible changes within the industry (Wilson and Daugherty, 2018).
I can improve my research skills as I take a lot of time to find relevant data for establishing any arguments or systems for the business stimulation. Besides the data research, I have also encountered barriers while communicating with the team members as I’m an introvert and lack experience of working within a team.
Conclusion
It can be concluded that the reflective cycle has helped in systematically reflecting the experience and learning that I have attained from the business stimulation. The three stores of the reflective cycle have effectively emphasised on the three major aspects of reflection and have helped me to print my learning in a proper way.
