Introduction
The purpose of this paper is to write a report regarding the human resource decision-making of Tesco. In this report, the impact of human resources on the success of the business has been explained. Furthermore, the decisions taken by the human resources that have led to Tesco’s success have been discussed.
Tesco is the leading multinational retailer which has 360000 employees who serve the company’s customers with healthy food and groceries. The company’s purpose is to provide its customers with better quality of life (Tesco 2021).
Human Resource-Tesco
Employees are at the centre of everything in Tesco from serving shoppers to innovative activities. The human resource managers of the company hire people who are honest and treats other employees prudently. In addition to the above, the company helps in the development of skills of their employees and provides various roles in the form of finance, management, and executives for them to succeed (Tesco 2021a). Therefore, more employees work at the company with 367361 employees employed in Tesco in 2021(Blazquez 2021).
Tesco could not be a huge company without the contribution of their employees and the effective functioning of their human resources. This is the reason why the human resource department of Tesco is known as the People’s team (Tesco 2021b). The human resource of Tesco is responsible for developing an atmosphere where the employees can implement creativity and serve the customers effectively (Tesco 2021b). The human resources practices comprise performance rewards, and recruitment of people from different backgrounds. Such practices help the employees to improve their expertise and diversify their experience in people specialism (Tesco 2021b). Furthermore, such human resource practices help in the growth of Tesco. For instance, the people advisor namely Jade Orman feels empowered and makes a real difference for the company’s customers (Tesco 2021b).
The academy recruitment team members of Tesco cater to the six million people who apply for various roles in finance and management in Tesco. Furthermore, training is provided by Tesco to their employees. In 2020, the academy team of Tesco trained 5900 workers who perform their roles in stores, and distribution effectively which helps in the business growth (Tesco 2021b). The company prides itself in providing learning and development opportunities to the workers. For instance, the company helps in their employee’s career development through cross-functional projects, courses, and support via partnerships namely CIPD, and master’s degree (Tesco 2021b). Through the diversity practices by the HRM in Tesco, they tend to improve the company’s performance and increase engagement among the customers and the employees. As part of the talent planning procedure, the business has implemented diverse talent communities. These communities focus on improving the career of the people of ethnic backgrounds in Tesco. Therefore, with the combination of effective human resources and efficient workers in Tesco, the company has managed to increase its sales by 7.1% in 2021 (Tesco 2021c). The business goals of Tesco are to improve the customer experience. For instance, the thousands of people trained through the talent planning process interact with the customers and provides them with a better experience (Tesco 2021c). Furthermore, the long-term goal of ensuring more than 33% female representation at the Board level by 2023 can be achieved by HRM’s decision to implement a talent planning process (Tesco 2021c). Conclusion
The human resource of Tesco implements various decisions and practices such as diversity, training, and reward system which helps in the growth of the company. They train their employees, rewards the best workers, and recruit diverse employees. Furthermore, the company helps in the improvement of the career of the workers. The sales of the company increase due to the effective human resource function.
