NX9740 and LD9740 MASTERS INTERNSHIP ASSIGNMENT SAMPLE 2023
1. Finding an internship
In the internship platform, there are huge responsibilities that are mandatory for the interns to fulfil and manage within a given time. While working as an intern few dimensions are crucial to be developed within an individual’s personality and those dimensions are leadership skill, sincere approach and ability to take responsibilities. Role of an account manager is to control, monitor and cross-check all the tasks and ongoing programs that have been assigned by the senior managers. In most cases, it has been observed that leaders tend to follow all the instructions from their reporting supervisors. Therefore, it becomes easier for them to deliver standard quality services as per the requirement of clients or management of a business organization (Zreen et al. 2019). In this present era, people of different ages are habituated to getting products and services by staying at home. Therefore, maximum developed and underdeveloped corporations have implemented e-commerce services within their business. As a result, all those business corporations are moving towards success by fulfilling clients’ demands of getting products and services at their doorstep.
Being an account manager of a wholesaler business, I have learnt several things that have helped me to enhance my way of work. Leading a team with different personalities is quite tough yet it is not impossible after learning the process of handling a team (Bist et al. 2020). Before getting involved with working as a manager or intern, I have researched on the internet about positive and negative variables in order to work for a wholesale business as a leader. DD plus is popular since I was not even an intern of a different business organization. After seeing the popularity of such an innovative tool, I made myself involved in researching DD Plus. Lately, I have been assigned as account manager of DD Plus wholesale business. Location I have considered to be a place of different culture and huge population, which will be easier for the local people with various cultures to take advantage of innovative products and services from this wholesale business organization.
In this current Covid-19 crisis, people are afraid to purchase daily essential products from the global retail market due to the continuous spread of Covid-19 and current Omicron variants. Consequently, it has become mandatory for the wholesale business, such as DD Plus, to add new and different features within the DD Plus application in order to deliver desired services among reliable and new consumers (Althaqafi et al. 2019). Therefore, I have managed to make all the management bodies increase the number of products in order to deliver required and concerned products while there would be further or sudden requirements from the client. Before choosing this platform to work, I have given interviews to Flipkart, Amazon, Snapdeal and Myntra. After my interviews, I have called for the joining of Myntra and Flipkart. However, after seeing the popularity of DD Plus technology, I have made it clear to work under this wholesale business. The role of account manager is to manage financial segments, such as tracking the status of product payments and monitoring customers payment issues from DD Plus application.
2. Progress Report & Relationships with company employees
Students job responsibilities
Students have limited knowledge and ideas about the pros and consequences after they join a business organization or reputed company. Therefore, managers of different business organizations tend to hire expert managers or interns that will give proper guidance and training about the organization’s background and about the role of students that they have been assigned (Ekers, 2019). While studying under the educational platform, students have been faced with time management issues or burdens by giving examinations or tests. However, work-life is different from the study life that has been taught by the training managers of business organizations. There are several work responsibilities that are mandatory for the employees to complete within a given time and, on that day, only, otherwise, they might face issues regarding employments.
In order to give proper guidance to students, there is a need for sincere leaders and managers that will help them to develop an understanding of job responsibilities and requirements. In this context, I have been assigned to deliver knowledge about companies’ working culture, business standards and ethics and mainly make all the students understand their rights while working as an employee of DD Plus wholesale business. Being an employee of this renowned organization, employees need to complete their given assignments and tasks without missing allocated deadlines (EL-Sakran, 2018). Being regular at work without giving excuses will be the basics in terms of making a desirable image in front of senior managers. For instance, I have suggested all the newcomers or new joiners feel free while facing issues within the assigned tasks. Therefore, it will be easier for the employees to deliver well-efficient work regularly.
Students involved in activities and encountered problems within task
Proper training and a positive approach from the trainers or leaders are useful for the students or new joiners to develop their knowledge regarding job responsibilities and daily activities. For instance, from the beginning, I have delivered a short overview of the DD Plus application along with its popularity. According to individuals’ working responsibilities, I have made all of them understand the use of this expert tool. Eventually, I have mentioned that time management ability and an increased habit of listening to the assigned supervisor’s instructions and advice are mandatory in order to get successful results at the end of the task. Being an employee for the first time in this wholesale business, there will be certain difficulties while understanding clients demands. Understanding clients demands and requirements might be a problem for employees due to their limited knowledge about products and services (Gashaw, 2019). For instance, I have planned to give them training based on the products and services and will make them understand the simple ways to handle customers.
Students from different study backgrounds will be reporting to the department as per their educational and skilled background, which is better for them to think and give effective suggestions to generate innovative and creative ideas of products and services.
3. Personal Competency Development
3.1 Entering the Competition
DD Plus is a “wholesale loyalty tool” that allows the wholesalers to supervise their retailer businesses with the facility of an application. The company has more than 1000 retailers who are working with them. The current situation of the market possesses difficult competition as there are some such platforms (Correa-Florez et al., 2018). The company has developed several strategies and personalized its application to maintain a proper connection with their retailers to become more popular than others. The competition has been overcome by DD Plus with some specifications in their application. The application has the facilities of whole online visibility of their products with details. As per Yan et al. (2020), the application streamlines their order management and forecasts their stock details. The management of the company monitors the retailers’ buying history and pattern. In this internship, the strategies of DD Plus have been observed. Their application has been designed in such a way that it saves time while sending the sales staff anywhere in the country.
DD Plus has categorized its customers based on their volume of orders and based on their region. The volume of a product depends upon the type of the product such as Gold, Silver, Platinum, and Bronze. The regions are South, North, East, West London, Manchester, Liverpool, and Birmingham. These facilities have attracted their retailers and they have secured a top position in the competition. As cited by Daburi Farimani and Rajabi Mashhadi (2020), the company is pioneering for its work ethics and strategy. The employee hiring, cultural awareness, and problem-solving quality of this company are outstanding. The employees have been trained for their respective jobs and the application has been managed by efficient professionals. The competency gained regarding application development and company management excelled the market. Proper planning and execution of that plan by maintaining discipline has maintained the reputation of DD Plus.
The company possesses some other ethics regarding employee efficiency which is different from the others. The employees who are unable to meet their job target are trained properly and if again they are unable to perform well they are hired for another post in the job. This strategy maintains the balance of job and the employees feel safe environment and less work pressure. This results in the high quality of products they produce and satisfaction for both the company and consumers happen. In this internship, I learned many things from this company and gained knowledge in this field. As described by Golmohamadi et al. (2019), the success of this company lies in the maturity of the entire hierarchy of the company and adaptability with the environment. As an employee, I have gained the strategies to follow the environment of the market and how to act accordingly.
3.2 Shortfall Group Meeting
Group meetings held by DD Plus are immensely important and helpful for the development of the company as well as for the new joinee also. It helps to understand the work ethics of the seniors and develop qualities according to the changes and upgrades are done by the company. As per the view of Wu et al. (2019), management, job allocation, and avocation, all are important for the development of the company, and all these things are described in the meetings. The future programs are structured in these meetings that is why it carries immense importance for the company. During my internship, only a few meetings were held by the company and it affected the up-gradation of the company. Although, the meetings held have taught me various things on the development of business ethics.
In their business models, they have mentioned certain principles to grow their business that has been discussed in this assignment. The differentiation of development has been done based on experience, efforts of others, and courses and programs (Zhong et al., 2019). According to the strategies of DD Plus, seventy percent of business ethics are supposed to be learned and developed through experience. Twenty percent of business ethics are supposed to be learned and developed through the efforts and mistakes of others. While ten percent of business ethics are supposed to be learned and developed through structured courses and programs. As cited by Sarker et al. (2018), all these three are leaders for a developing business and a growing business must follow this percentage. Our manager discussed the advantages of this principle in those meetings and this is supposed to help me in the future to develop my own business.
The meetings were very helpful to me although there were only a few meetings held. The proper funding was missing for meetings and that is why sometimes some major issues have not been discussed and the company has faced some losses regarding this (Kouvelis et al., 2018). As described by Correa-Florez et al. (2018), the coordination among the colleagues becomes stronger in these meetings as they get more time to know each other and an understanding on a personal level develops. This understanding makes a better job in collaborative works and produces effective results for the company. The understanding among the employees also develops work ethics based on different conditions and this makes the effort of the employees better. In the period of my internship, I experienced that better coordination gives fruitful production and the company incentivizes their employees to maintain their efficiency and that is the reason for the overall growth of this company.
3.3 Scheduling
Scheduling is an important tool for any business and DD Plus possesses expertise in scheduling its functions. As an employee of this company, I observed that the discipline among the company is maintained by every employee of the company in the entire hierarchy. The company has scheduled their application also and the delivery of their products is scheduled, dispatched, and delivered maintaining the schedule. In case of late delivery, the company apologizes although during my internship I have not experienced such a condition. According to Neuhoff et al. (2018), the scheduling must be done by learning from the leaders and the scheduling is done in the meeting in presence of experienced leaders. DD Plus schedules the work as per the requirement of the retailers and the availability of the employees which is the best policy of this company.
Employee involvement is needed in their company and that is why they prioritize every employee in their company. The application launched by them has been scheduled in such a way that it shows the product availability status timely (Daburi Farimani and Rajabi Mashhadi, 2020). When the products remain out of stock, they update the facts timely and also update the availability date. After the stock is furnished, they notify all the retailers who have shown desire towards the product. The scheduling of their application is appreciable for both the retailers and the customers. There has been a notification which is scheduled after the completion of delivery. In every stage of purchasing there has been a notification scheduled, such as in the time of booking, order dispatched, delivery completed, payment due, and payment received. As cited by Zhang (2019), the scheduling tool must be efficient enough to maintain the facility of all the employees. The competency of DD Plus lies in this scheduling facility also. The retailers receive a complete order history in the application which is scheduled and updated with every purchase. It is helpful for the retailers as from the history they are supposed to order the same product in less timing. The scheduling of the company has facilitated the retailers with time-saving features and it attracts more retailers and maintains the popularity in the market.
3.4 Separate Projects
DD Plus has separated its projects among different departments based on the efficiency of the employees. The separation of the projects is an imperative step of the company as productivity is dependent on this aspect. The different departments monitor their function with high efficiency. For instance, the application development department works only in their field and gains knowledge to improve their function. The department which deals with the stock furnished works to refresh the stock and drain the out-of-trend stocks. As per the view of Graf et al. (2021), the separation of projects also deals with problem-solving abilities to maintain the balance of new and old stock. The competency of a company depends on the quality of the service which they offer to their retailers based on their efficiency (Yan et al., 2020). The department of DD Plus that is responsible for the presentation of the product is supposed to analyze the products of several companies in the market and present the best quality to survive in the market. The department which is responsible for problem-solving has to be extremely intelligent to take decisions and make changes among the company as per the situation.
The department responsible for the presentation of the products must possess experience in this field and they must have an impressive presentation skill that is supposed to attract more retailers and customers than the other companies in the competitive market. As cited by Golmohamadi and Keypour (2018), the presentation once done must be cross-checked at least two times before dispatching the product. The company must be open to criticism and suggestions from the customers as this is supposed to improve the service quality. This is supposed to meet consumer satisfaction and increase the sales of their products. As an employee of DD Plus, I learned that every employee must possess the problem-solving ability within them. Unwanted situations are supposed to come at any time but all the employees must be ready for any circumstances and deliver their best effort towards their work.
3.5 Independence
Independence is an imperative aspect that every organization is supposed to possess and DD Plus has perfection in this quality. It has given independence to their retailers to choose any product with any quantity as per their choice. They offer the employees work schedule as per the availability and this is the best policy of this company that it gives high priority and independence to its employees also. Throughout my internship in this company, I have learned how to maintain proper business ethics, how to manage time, and how to respect every employee within the hierarchy. As cited by Kouvelis et al. (2018), in any company efficiency is directly proportional to the service of the employees. The service of the employees is supposed to be of high quality with these policies which makes the employees independent and the company as well. The company learns from the experienced leaders and applies their business ethics on its own then it also becomes independent as they now have their independent view of the market.
In my internship, I experienced the quality of serving rather than the pressure of quantity as the company has enough employees and they do not pressurize any single employee. All the employees have the independence to utilize their spare time in their work. My experience during my internship in this company has been great due to the independence of the employees. The independence has been given to the retailers also to not only choose the quality and quantity of their product but also to choose the amount (Graf et al., 2021). The application has categorized its products as per the range of amounts. As per the view of Zhong et al. (2019), the company also facilitates its customers as per the time of any festival, especially the religion-wise festivals. They offer discounts on their products at various times of the year during various festivals and this makes their company more versatile and maintains its popularity. In the competitive market, the DD Plus company has excelled for its great policies and discipline and the experiences that I gained during my internship in this company are supposed to help me immensely in my future business.
4. Reflection of learning and development
Career development works essentially in terms of getting a chance to work under am we-reputed and well-established business associations. As cited by Heissenberger-Lehofer, K. and Krammer (2021), in the skill and knowledge development process, there is a need for learning smart tools and techniques to increase the ability to manage difficulties with a calm and positive mind. Patience is the key to success and having a hold on self-confidence and self-belief helps individuals to complete all the allocated tasks within accurate time. While progressing with skill enhancement, I have sincerely dropped my CV on the online recruiting platforms by mentioning my skill and abilities on the given curriculum vitae. After a few days of CV submission to Dialdio limited, I got an offer letter saying that I have been selected for the account manager internship role under this wholesale business organization. On that job offer letter, it was clearly mentioned about the job responsibilities of mine for being an account manager.
From the beginning of joining, I was confused and with limited understanding about the business pros and consequences, which led me to full of fear within my mind. However, I have successfully managed to boost self-confidence after getting support, care, a positive approach and huge guidance from training managers and supervisors. In the internship of account managers, there is a need to communicate with supply chain managers and consumers in order to monitor ongoing processes of products availability and unavailability from the supply chain management and resolve clients’ queries after their experience of products and services respectively.
4.1 Strength
4.1.1 Presentation skill
Leadership skill is required while executing and regulating tasks and programs by being an account manager. Time management skills and skill of handling clients by solving their queries within a limited time is the basis of getting desirable compliments from the higher authorities and developing a prestigious position within the business organization (Hora et al. 2020). For instance, I have managed to complete all daily tasks within a given time and for that reason, I have increased self-attention and enthusiasm in order to learn expert and smart tools and techniques of delivering well-efficient work on a daily basis. Presentation skill has helped me to gather product information, manage inventory programs and provide data along with inputs into the current and underdeveloped ERP software.
4.1.2 Independence
Being independent at the workplace helps professionals to focus on their job responsibilities after fulfilling self-desires that are incorporated with the freedom within the workplace. In most cases, employees under their renowned organization feel uncomfortable and frustrated while not being able to be independent thinkers. As a result, those employees could not build their careers by not using their own expert skills and knowledge in practice (Schonell and Macklin, 2019). Somehow, in my case, I was allowed to work and give suggestions independently, which was the major reason that I used to follow instructions from the senior leaders to get tremendous results within the work process.
4.1.3 Authenticity
Authenticity is the key element in terms of serving better services to the management of a business organization. Wholesale supply chain is a highly effective platform, as marketing managers of maximum business organizations or wholesale associations are dependent on the raw materials and products delivered as per the business needs (Zhang et al. 2019). Maintaining authenticity while interacting with multiple people is required in order to develop own and business alliances with different industries, especially with supply chain managers. The retailers and the customers are supposed to choose their desired range of products and enjoy the service of the company. Due to authenticity, I have successfully understood the fleet planning’s of the different wholesalers. Therefore, I was able to deliver information about DD Plus platforms in order to avoid manual work or job allocations.
- 2 Weakness
4.2.1 Self-confidence
Self-confidence is the key to achieving business goals with great dedication and motivation. In the wholesale business, it requires analysing both fast-moving and slow-moving products in the market. Here in that, self-confidence will work tremendously in terms of giving recommendations and suggestions for product promotion and to the wholesaler (Zreen et al. 2019). In some cases, I used to get confused about suggesting others about promotion, which can be the basis of moving towards taking effective decisions by the founder of DD Plus. Due to my lack of self-confidence, I have failed to draw impactful recommendations to the senior management team of this wholesale business.
4.2.2 Communication
Lack of communication does not allow a person to enhance their skill and knowledge even working within a reputed and well-developed business organization. Communication is the key to success in life, as people with great communication skills have been chosen the most rather than less efficiently to communicate with a person for an important job or assignment (Zhang et al. 2019). Being an account manager or intern, my accrual role was communicating with supply chain managers and business partners. Somehow, while communicating with others I was nervous to deliver the accurate information that is incorporated with improving internal tools. Due to limited communication ability, people have been seen to be distracted from their job responsibilities after not being able to propound about important elements.
4.2.3 Searching for feedback
Feedback is essential to know and to gather from the senior leaders as per the job deliverance. Feedback from consumers is highly essential in order to reduce business burdens caused by dissatisfied customers. Searching for feedback from the client requires huge numbers of patients in order to make a feedback chart for the popularity of products and services among clients (Zreen et al. 2019). Based on the products and services popularity, it will be easier for the board of directors of this wholesale business to make effective data-driven decisions in terms of increasing business reputation across the global competitive market.
