1. Introduction

The current report is going to be on the discussion of project management of Taunton warehouse. Taunton warehouse is the new operational area of Supermarket X for their storage. This new warehouse is going to open for better operational management of supermarket X. This report is going to describe the project life cycle theory of managing a project. In this report, the project of Taunton warehouse will be described using PMBOK methodology for project management. Their key knowledge areas such as scopes, schedules and they will be highlighted here. Cost, quality, resources and many others are going to be described through PMBOK methodology. Furthermore, few recommendations will be provided for the betterment of this project.

2. Main Body

2.1 Theory of project life cycle

The project life cycle theory states that there are five phases in a project and all the stakeholders of a project share a common goal between them. Every project has a starting, middle and closing stage and these stages are part of the project life cycle. The responsibilities of these stages are divided among the stakeholders (de Freitas et al. 2019). Besides, every step has its own objectives, schedule and risk factors. All the stakeholders need to understand their role in the project to complete this life cycle with success. The stages of project life cycle are addressed below:

  1. Initiation

This is the first stage of the project life cycle and in this stage the main aim of the project is decided. The project is started in this stage and at this stage, project sponsor or project owner is the cardinal stakeholder. The expected output of the project is decided by the project sponsor. They choose the most significant stakeholders for the project and give them major responsibilities for further operation of the project (Wolff, 2018). In most of the cases, the project sponsor chose the project manager and shared the aim of the project. Project managers become the main project head of the project for the further stages.

The planning stage of the project is one of the most significant phases as in this stage all the aspects of a project is outlined. The main tasks of this stage is mentioned below and based on it, Taunton warehouse project will be executed:

  • Define the objectives of the project and make work structure for completion of the project.

  1. Closure

This is the final stage of the project and project sponsor and project manager share the major responsibilities in this stage. Each stage of this project methodology has been detailed starting from initiation up to project closure. Besides this, linking of PMBOK has been applied to highlight its importance and advantage in this particular project. Knowledge areas, processes groups have been implied here as well to assess PMBOK in an efficient manner. Moreover, few recommendations have been suggested to improve project life cycle of Taunton Warehouse through PMBOK.        

4. Recommendations

1. Improvement of project awareness & visibility: Sponsor and project manager of Taunton Warehouse must be influenced with such views to trigger strategy of project management. Execution of this project is needed to be handled properly such that guidelines for awareness must be maintained to mitigate further issues in project. Changes in project scheduling can therefore, be managed (Banica et al. 2017). Hence, better communication plan can be included to consider new roles in new sites of Taunton.
2. Customization of approach: Stakeholders of Taunton must be reviewed to control such recommendation plan and attain progress thereafter. Integration of task board regarding better project methodology can be incorporated in this step, such as Scrum or Agile such that time constraints can be monitored in Taunton to certain extent (Fathi, Ammari and Allal, 2019). Hence, essential lessons can be learned based on Taunton, thereby implicating productive values in return.
3. Monitoring budget and scheduling: Careful project planning must be simulated to control further requirements in Taunton. This approach will be concerned to spot immediate changes that are going to take place due to PMBOK in Taunton. Specific changes will then be enlisted to enforce skills of project management. In this way (Kononenko and Lutsenko, 2018). Completion of Taunton Warehouse’ objectives can be addressed without facing more risks or constraints in it. Thus, it is expected that after following such recommendations, Taunton Warehouse will be able to eliminate risks in its project through adoption of PMBOK.
