General nature
I got the opportunity to do an internship for myself in a company named “Indus services limited”. There are several operations performed in the company about information technology, and the company is very famous in information technology. There are also other kinds of business also owned by the company. To perform any kind of business activities, the company is required to maintain a website where the detail about the useonesse of the company should be displayed, and the customers should be able to get detailed information about the several businesses from the designated website (Donoriyanto, 2020). The designing of the website of the company and the storing of all of the business data in the designed website requires the skills and knowledge of information technology and several types of programming languages are used to design the webpage of the company and the databases are required to store the information about the products.
Description
I was given the role of software developer among a group. The company is a private one, and several kinds of business are associated with the company; and the management of the business’s operations are required to maintain a proper website and the other software tools. As a software developer, I had to design and develop several software platforms, and the software platforms were associated with the daily needs of the company’s business requirements (Godfrey et al., 2021). I designed the company maintaining the excellent and developed website along with my team members, and the information about the products of the company was stored in the database so that the customers of the company should be able to see the available product on the website of the company.
Documentation
As the primary function of mine was to develop the software platforms to operate the company’s business effectively, the task was a little difficult according to my standard as I was not used to doing such kind of activity during my academic period. Although I had little knowledge about the software development and designing of the website, I had not any kind of industrial experience before the internship. The team members were quite supportive of me, and they were experienced enough to develop several kinds of websites (Hassan et al., 2021). The company’s software platforms to develop the website and perform several kinds of software operations in the company are HTML, CSS, PHP, SQL and python. Python is the programming language and is helpful to develop several types of software platforms where the requirements of solid logic are required. HTML is also another kind of programming language used to develop several websites, and the usefulness of this language depends on the website’s design. The main work I had to perform during my internship period is developing the website as per the company’s requirement, and the website designing was done using the HTML language. The programming language was written in a notepad, and the HTML was used to perform the task associated with the webpage development (Hidayati, 2019).
The database is handy to store the complete information that the user’s access and the entire product-related data is stored in SQL. I designed the website with the help of the HTML language. I then provided the proper link in the webpage, through which it became possible for the users to get access to the designated database, which is intended by the users. The data about the product of the company is stored in the database, and the users, as well as the employees of the company, should get access to the database with the help of the suitable link provided on the webpage of the company. The details and the number of the availability of the products are changed day by day, so it is necessary to change as well as update the database with the latest data regularly. If the data in the database are not modified daily, then the wrong information about the products should be displayed, and the customer should not be able to get accurate data about the available products, and thus misunderstanding should occur. The python language is very much helpful to make the programme which should be followed when the customer should intend to visit the database. When the data from the database is retrieved, then the two stages of the operation are performed. At first, the message is sent to the database so that the particular data should be retrieved by the user, and after retrieving the information, the data is sent back to the user, and thus the user is able to access the desired information those are stored in the database. This entire operation of sending the message to the database and thereafter displaying the required data to the screen of the user is done by python programming (Julis et al.2020). I have implemented a lot of information about the various products of the company in the database using python programming, and the same language is used to perform the entire operation of the data collection from the database. The designing of the webpage is done with the help of the HTML language, and the special effects were made during the designing of the webpage using the PHP language, which is also another language to add some special kind of effects to the designed webpage. As it is necessary to develop the website as per the convenience of the user, i.e. the user should be able to access the links of the database easily, CSS is used to add some particular types of design in the displayed website so that the customers find it attractive about the contents of the website as well as the convenient ways are provide to the customers in case of finding the links associated with the designated database where the required information about the particular product is displayed.
Detailed Activities
I performed the operation of designing the webpage of the company, and the members of the company always became supportive towards me to develop the content of the website. I also visited the storeroom of the company to get a clear idea about the products of the company and the types of packaging used in the company to deliver the products to the customers. Although the type through which the products are delivered to the customer are not related to my internship work, that should definitely help me in my future days and in my future profession as I got a clear idea about the packaging capacity of the company (Kassim et al.2018).
The common definitely packs the products that should be delivered to the customer with great care, and the beneficial sides of the customers are always prioritized during the delivery of the product. After getting a clear idea about the products of the company, my task of designing the web page for the company and updating the details of the product daily became more accessible to me as I saw the full details of the manufacturing of the products by myself. I thus became really thankful to the company for providing me with the opportunity to visit the warehouse.
Procedures of meeting aims and objectives
The main aim of designing the website is to inform the customers about the products and services of the company, and the customer should be able to know about the several products available by going through the website of the company. So, the website for the company should be well designed, and the products should be displayed correctly with the right image so that the customers should find it easy to search about the designated product and the demand of the customer should be fulfilled. The customers are very busy, and there is limited time to search for the product on the website. So, if the products are not displayed correctly on the website of the company, then the customers may skip the required product during the searching for the product. In this way, the company should incur the loss in spite of, availability of the product in the company (Leitner et al.2019). It is the responsibility of the software developer to develop the contents of the website in such a manner so that every product should be displayed as well on the website of the company, and the customer should be able to search the displayed products also within a brief span of time. It is r possible to display the information about the entire products and services of the company on a single page, and so, there is the requirement of displaying the several products to the several pages. But, the link associated with each page should be displayed on the first page of the website of the company along with providing the proper name, and the CSS should be used to make the link more visible to the customers.
The customers are continuously expecting colourful and attractive websites, so, if the design of the website resembles more colours and the rightness solid be necessarily adjusted, then the customers should find it easy to search the required product in the vast list provided by the company (Liu et al.2019). The database also plays a vital role to store the data on the website of the company. The entire product-related data is stored in the appropriate database by the software developer. The detailed information about the product specification should be stored on the database serially so that the users should be able to access the information about the product quickly. If the data are stored in a random manner, then the user should not be able to search about the specifications of the product serially and should be not able to understand properly about the details of the products. If the details of the products should be not appropriately understood, for any wrong information is understood by the user, the demand of the product should be reduced only for the wrong understanding. So, the software developer should always arrange the data systematically and adequately for the convenience of the users. The convenience of the user should be the first priority of the software developers. If the users do not find it convenient to search about the product details, then the users should be shifted towards the usage of the website of another company, which may hold the inferior quality of products. It is always observed in several cases that in spite of having superior quality of products, the company becomes unable to sell through the online platform as the contents of the company are not displayed correctly on the website of the company. On the other hand, the companies having inferior quality products make a high profit due to the attractive website and the picturesque image of the products, which is helpful to attract a large pool of customers (Lokko et al.2018). As a software developer, I performed my duty sincerely after getting proper training from my seniors, and I enhanced the selling of the company by implementing a colourful website.
General comments
As I am pursuing my gratuity on the topic of computer science, the internship has really become helpful to gain enough knowledge about the development of the website practically, which is used to read in the books only. The primary function of any Information technology professional is to develop several software, which should be my future profession. I did not have any practical experience regarding software development, but after pursuing the internship in the “Indus services limited”, I became capable of knowing how the theoretical knowledge of computer science is applicable to any real industry in case of continuously mitigating the client’s needs (Wang et al.2017). Although I gained enough knowledge about website development, another application of computer science to develop the apps, those should turn into android and other platforms. I didn’t get any chance to gain knowledge about that field, but I am very much optimistic that I will get another chance in any kind of industrial sector with the knowledge about app development.
