Introduction
Reflecting on one’s own capabilities and skills often becomes an important factor in analysing and evaluating the performance of an individual which ultimately proves extremely beneficial in enhancing professional as well as personal growth. On the other hand, focusing on professional skills and adopting strategies to develop the skills always helps in achieving a strong position in the professional world. In this essay, a critical reflection will be done on the various aspects related to professional and personal development in order to improve the chances of employability along with overcoming the issues and problems faced by an employee.
Critical reflection on personal and professional development
Description
I have completed my graduation in the technical field where I have specialised in web developing and as soon as I completed my graduation I started searching jobs and I managed to secure a job in a reputed organisation as a Junior Web Developer. I was aware of my roles and responsibilities as a web developer in the organisation and I started my internship with full sincerity and enthusiasm. It may be stated that web developers are primarily associated with developing several applications which eventually aim at making advancements in the field of web designing (Jani, 2019). I have always wanted to join any organisation after completing graduation as it will provide me opportunities to gain experience as a web developer and along with providing me practical experience which is immensely essential.
I have found that a web developer has some clear roles and responsibilities which include writing error free codes, using the best software’s, creating attractive and impressive web pages, creating user friendly user interfaces and integrating data from various reliable sources. On a broader note, reflecting on the performance of an individual in a critical manner always proves beneficial in enhancing professional careers to a great extent in multiple fields (Bassot, 2015). In my initial phase of internship in the organisation, I was given the responsibility of maintaining software documentation and I faced several issues during that period. I found it difficult to communicate with the senior team members while discussing matters and understanding the areas related to my job role which made me realise the fact that I need to enhance my communication skills on an immediate basis.
I found that I need to improve all the modes of communication including non-verbal communication, verbal communication, verbal-written communication and due to this reason I have to follow Aristotle’s model of communication which will certainly help me in improving my communication skills. Additionally, employability depends to a great extent on communication skills where employers often look for individuals with excellent communication capabilities (Ting et al., 2017). In the next phase of my internship, I was made the group leader of a particular project where I had to manage a small team of 5 members where we were working on network diagnostics, however, I faced serious issues in managing the team effectively. I realise while working in that particular project that I have to improve my leadership abilities to manage a team efficiently.
I have to follow different leadership approaches and styles to deal with different situations and for example I may follow transformational, democratic or autocratic leadership styles according to changes in situations and circumstances. It has to be implied that there exists a direct relationship between organisational performance and leadership approach adopted by an organisation which directly impacts the growth and development of the organisation in the long run (Khajeh, 2018). The internship has been profoundly helping me in identifying my weaknesses and strengths which will definitely provide assistance in developing a successful professional career in the future.
Feelings
I have felt that getting the opportunity to work as an intern in a reputed organisation after completing studies provides immense support in gathering valuable experience which eventually assists in developing a successful professional career. I have also realised the fact that working in the organisation as a Junior Web Developer has provided me various opportunities to learn new things along with developing professional capabilities to a considerable extent. I may truly state that I have been facing major issues and problems from the first day in my internship as a Junior Web Developer where I lacked confidence and self-awareness. I was given an easy task of developing a simple website, however, I totally got nervous and ended up failing to create the website within a given period of time which reduced my levels of confidence. On the other hand, there have been several transformations in the field of professional development which enables an individual to overcome all the possible obstacles effortlessly (Elliott, 2017).
I have also felt that my time management skills are also poor which I found while working on developing a code for updating a particular website and I missed deadlines for consecutive three days which made me aware of the fact that I need to pay attention towards improving my time management skills. I have to enhance my time management skills which will definitely provide an added advantage in meeting deadlines along with achieving professional as well as personal goals in the long run. On a contradictory note, time management is directly linked with better organisational outcomes which ultimately enhance the reputation and image of a particular brand in the global context (Aeon and Aguinis, 2017). The internship has also proven to be extremely effective in enhancing my knowledge related to various aspects of web development where I have been learning along with gaining knowledge under the guidance of my seniors. However, I have realised that I have issues related to self-awareness which I need to overcome through constant efforts and evaluation.
I may opine that while I have been working on developing the prototype of a website, I remained passive and attentive towards the opinion of my team members which had a direct impact on my professional career. This has clearly shown my lack of emotional intelligence and the lack of ability to understand the feelings of others and for this reason I need to enhance the levels of emotional intelligence. It has to be mentioned that emotional intelligence and levels of job satisfaction are closely interlinked and needs to be revised for implementing organisational strategies in an effective way (Wen et al., 2019). Furthermore, I have felt that I have improved my interpersonal skills during this internship through group works and team activities which has further improved my communication skills to some extent as compared to my initial days of the internship as a web developer. I may clearly state that I have to keep evaluating myself on a constant basis to overcome all the issues which I have been facing in order to make an effective professional career in the future. I will follow Daniel Goleman’s emotional intelligence theory for improving my levels of emotional intelligence which will enhance my empathy and social skills.
Evaluation
It was a starting challenge for me to accept and act the norms and behaviours of the corporate world through the internship job where I was just a beginner and I had to build strength and capabilities to compete in the skill-full technical world to find and sit at my dream coveted position as a software architect as the career goal. This job has highly sharpened my gradual intellectual and emotional grooming with the primary and significant skills to survive through practice and perform and thrive with competency building and adaptability with modern information and intelligence artefacts. The core skills are learning and developing brief lessons of programming languages where I gain insights and experience the complications and projections of HTML, CSS and Javascript with different frameworks as well PHP, JAVA, C++, SQL to coordinate the technical framework of job duty to design and coordinate the live support and development of the business objectives. It was a pure technical field of departmental jobs which held my priorities of influencing the modern world to cooperate with the growing pace of market trends according to innovations and initiatives of Information Technology (IT) standards. It uses to pre-calculate and manipulate consumer behaviour and purchasing practice through analysing consumer behaviour and pattern of purchasing parity. I had to coordinate a wide spectrum of duties and responsibilities to keep, update, monitor, conduct, secure business transactions through online shopping as well as developing public relations on social and other contemporary media releases and interactions.
The web developer’s whole responsibility is to coordinate the development of the specifications with acceptability and updates with current need for public interaction with the technology and machine. It has enriched my knowledge as well as agility in research and numeracy to gain proficiency in technical skills. Other than that, my job role and responsibilities also align my inner self with my activities. The sense of self-awareness comprises the potential and strengths to reactivate and combine in activities with acknowledging the others surrounding me in personal and professional fields. I had to fill my time sheet as my work activity as well as reporting the current lead of the project about my development as well as issues which helps my interpersonal skills to improve through omni-channel communication with other senior team members. These developments of skills also encourage the team leaders to open up the window for permanent roles or put on the talent pool of future leadership with growing responsibilities of team coordination (Wilson, 2012). Here my skills again stumbled through closely coordinating the different works and activities with developing the Application Process Interface (API) to coordinate the databases with user activity. These roles and responsibilities were quite new for me as I was learning to decorate the web page to coordinate the business activity of the company smoothly and perfectly.
My activities are monitored and corrected for a strong development of key technical flaws of codes for error free coding. I have got the chance to work with backend developers too which has made my queries stronger and accurate with team support where my skills and ability are up to the mark with the others through close supervision of the team leader. On the contrary, I had feelings about my lack of proficiency in communication as I have to communicate with the international client to include the expectations in the front page of the commercial website. The employee communication holds the heart of the organisation who drives the organisation with performance and effort through research and numeracy to innovate and progress through easing life standards of human beings (Bolton, 2010). Actor-network theory for organisational communication develops under the collaboration of human and non-human factors to achieve success where I have been resourced in a production support team which integrates my skills and knowledge through interoperability (Crawford, 2020). I am still acknowledging multiple shades of employee relationship with empathy, respect, recognition and reward are more for better culmination of efforts and asset for organisational success.
Analysis
This internship job opportunity has widened my dreams to improve my employability through practical interaction with management leadership as well as technical attire to interact with professional objectives. I have been learning participative leadership theory to enhance my practice and fluence in management and leadership through engaging with employees and improving the overall quality and speed. designated as a Junior Web Developer I had to etiquette myself with prior skills of emotional, cultural and technical intelligence to reflect my job prospectus certainly to gain glory to success in personal and professional life. The participative leadership is the best leadership as it coordinates every flicks and errors in technical as well as management practice for developing a long lasting impact on the organisational culture to grow and flourish according to the business strength (Fanthome, 2015). Additionally, the situations as conflict management, power politics, lobbies, negotiations and stakeholder management to uphold the key requirements and design as well as every little changes are updated in real-time to accommodate the inventory with consumer requirements for improving the business transaction which had cashed my capabilities in the real world through the internship job offer.
Initially I was quite unaware of the placement organisation’s operational activity where I was as usual nervous a little bit waiting for unknown results before appearing in the interview. I had a low key knowledge of technical skill as well as my communication accent was quite native so with mixed feelings I attended the interview as the junior java developer. First it was the aptitude round, 2nd group discussions, third technical rounds then the final interview had happened where I saw myself in the final round with moderate marks compared with other interviewees. My cultural intelligence came into handy while developing professional relationships with others with common issues and expectations as well as future projections. The problem-solving skills helped me to cross the first three rounds of interview applying common and tactical knowledge to qualify for the final round. The most awaited final round of interview started after lunch where it took almost 8pm when I had appeared before the interview board of the placement organisation. The senior most person gave a brief outlook of the organisation with mission, vision and objectives.
I started interacting with board members through starting introductions with an overview of my skills and abilities about the web development job for presenting my employability for the job prospectus. Placement organisation quite responsively adhered to the official conduct for my job alignment as a junior web developer role and also emotionally supported me for cooperating with work-life balance with new roles, responsibilities and activities. On a different note, my decision-making skill is also quite lagging to compete with the business standard and accuracy which have to accompany the factual and actual both times to start the venture for business entrepreneurship (Moon, 2004). Developing group work also needs authenticity to collaborate the team activity with agile and flexible work operation for business engagement with the clients where I need some developing concerns regarding these key aspects. Another important thing is the time management controls the fractions of time for developing the innovations or software’s to enable the accomplishments for client use involving business prospectus and critical analysis (Bassot, 2015). It has also enabled me to keep thriving the professional relationship with the leaders, colleagues, operational head and the technical and operational leaders which will enshrine my employability in future. In daily practice as a junior web developer, I had developed myself dynamically to improve flexibility and agility with interoperability for professional work management as well as team coordination with cooperation for resolving the business issues through different modes of thoughts and outputs by the team.
Conclusion
From the above discussion, it has been recognized that my technical and ethical as well as cultural and emotional competencies are the primary factors needed for efficient handling of the job role as a Junior Web Developer. The different skills with technical and behavioural feasibility have more productivity in the long run for my career goal with pressure and client management through quick decision making.

I have to overcome all the limitations and shortcomings of my professional career as early as possible in order to improve my skills and hone my abilities and I will do this through participating in several skill development programs and sessions. I will enrol myself in online skill development programs for improving my communication skills under the able guidance of experienced leaders and managers of the industry where I will indulge in conversations with the senior leaders and professionals actively for a period of 8 months. On the other hand, I will also take part in face to face conversions with professionals and individuals for enhancing my communication skills and overcoming speech issues. I will also take part in online seminars and webinars to improve my time management skills under the guidance of experienced leaders and managers and I will also take part in practical assessments where I will focus on accomplishing all the tasks with deadlines. This will certainly improve my time utilisation skills to a great extent.
Furthermore, I will set a target of improving my time management skills in the next 6 months which will boost my levels of confidence and I will be able to achieve my professional as well as personal goals and objectives in an effective manner. Additionally, I will also seek the guidance of eminent personalities for improving my emotional intelligence and I will aim to achieve this within the next 6 months. I will actively make efforts to enhance my emotional intelligence through constantly taking part in group activities and indulging in conversations with colleagues and professionals belonging to different cultural communities and groups. I may opine that all these efforts will certainly prove to be immensely effective in resolving the existing issues and improving my productivity and performance as a professional web developer in the future.
Conclusion
In a concluding remark, it may be clearly concluded that paying attention towards the soft skills and other personal qualities such as self-awareness, leadership capabilities, time management skills and communication skills becomes extremely important in overcoming the issues and challenges faced by an individual in a professional career. Regular evaluation, analysis and monitoring of all the essential aspects of personality are immensely crucial for achieving success in a professional career. However, honest, diligent efforts and dedication is important in improving personal qualities which will certainly prove beneficial in developing a perfect professional career in the long run for individuals.

This week has helped me to develop the skills related to professional practice of learning agreement. Based on the skills developed this week I have been able to meet the objectives of professional practice for learning agreement that further would assist me to accomplish the targeted goals. According to my belief, communication is one of the most essential tools of developing skills related to business management. This week has presented me with the opportunity of analysing the significance of communication alongside the opportunity it brings in developing and identifying different industrial prospects. This week I also got a suitable idea regarding my strengths that mainly includes the aspects of decision making and communication. For instance, this week I was able to act properly based on current instances and make necessary decisions after having proper communication with my team members. However, this week has also pointed out my weakness that creates urgency for improvement in order to accomplish my targeted goals. In this respect it can be stated that development of the skills of communication and decision making was the achievement for this week and gaining strengths in the areas of collaboration needs to be developed in the future weeks for meeting the objectives of PPLA.

This week has helped me to understand different notions regarding cross cultural management within industrial prospects. In this week I have learnt that cross cultural management is considered to be one of the most important aspects as it helps in managing different cultural notions that are effective in creating barriers for accomplishing targeted goals with proper values. On the other hand, this week has also helped me to understand the significance of implementing cultural management within managerial prospects as it helps in managing people that reflect proper performance. I believe that cross-cultural issues mainly arise from differences in perspective and cultural values. For instance, this week I took the initiative of having open conversation with my teammates from different cultural backgrounds in order to analyse their perspective. Based on this action I can see that communication is one of my key strengths followed by proper collaboration and management. On the other hand, this week also created several difficulties for me to make relevant and suitable decisions for my team. It is because due to the notion of cross-cultural instances our team was not able to come to a mutual solution that can benefit overall team members and their performance. Henceforth, the aspects of decision making based on cross cultural perspective in the future.

Leadership is considered to be effective in accomplishing targeted goals related to professional practice learning agreement. I believe that a good leader needs to understand its team members properly and also should possess the ability of motivating them in order to gain the desired performance level. In this internship, I have been able to evaluate my leadership performance through several criticisms. At times I seem to make mistakes that are highly criticised by my team members while at the same time my team members praise me when I understand their perspective and take any actions that benefit my overall team work. For instance, at times when my team members feel low and their performance seems to be decreasing then I take the initiative of motivating them with positive words and meeting their basic needs. Based on the learning from this week I can see that providing motivation to my team members alongside understanding them serves as my strength in this scenario. On the other hand, I often do not interact with my team members, which creates a gap in building and maintaining relationships with them. In this respect I can reflect that working on my skills of interaction and building relationships can be effective for me in the future to develop potential as a leader.
