2. “Task 1: Self-Reflection and Skill Analysis”
2.1 Gibb’s Reflective Model
Gibb’s model definition
As per Adeani, et al. (2020), the Gibbs Reflective Model is a key tool for refining introspection and career growth. There are six stages to this approach. Every stage has a unique importance. I will discuss my strengths and shortcomings using this model, along with how I intend to overcome them to complete a project that has been allocated to me at work.
Stage 1: Description
The project’s general details are included in the description stage of this model (Yang, et al. 2022). At work, I was given a challenging project that involved creating a marketing plan to introduce a new product. had to choose an appropriate team to finish this task. This project fundamentally needed strong critical thinking abilities, communication skills, and the capacity to properly interpret graphs and market data. Accordingly, the project is involved with market research, identifying target demographics, and so on.
Stage 2: Feelings
While involved in this task, I have experienced both positive and negative feelings. Firstly, I felt very happy to have the opportunity in terms of leading such a successful project. But at the same time, I started feeling complexities and somewhat overwhelmed. I was quite confident in my abilities to work well with my team and oversee this project. But as time went on, I found myself overwhelmed with workload and deadlines. Despite so many challenges, I felt motivated as I was able to overcome all the challenges by driving a successful project.
Stage 3: Evaluation
In this stage, I have realized my strengths and weaknesses in handling a project efficiently. Through involving in this project, I realised that I have good expertise in problem-solving and communication skills along with some identified weaknesses are lack of technological knowledge and creative thinking. To complete this project successfully, my ability to identify market trends and consumer behavior has helped me to conduct a strategic approach. However, due to my weaknesses, I was not able to offer various new ideas to improve this project in a significant method. For my weaknesses, I have to face delays in meeting deadlines for this project.
Stage 4: Analysis
As opined by Malik, (2023), the main cause of the strengths and weaknesses have been identified in this particular stage. This practice sharpened my communication skills and problem-solving abilities because I am a lifelong learner who can adjust to any environment. I have also led teams successfully on numerous occasions. However, because I was spending much of my time overanalyzing and neglecting my relationships, these skills always required me to put in extra time and effort to achieve perfection, and I was finding it difficult to manage work and life.
Stage 5: Conclusion
It was a very difficult task in some ways because it exposed my weaknesses, which caused me to be a little behind schedule. Nevertheless, in the end, my skills allowed me to successfully analyse difficult problems and offer appropriate and workable solutions, which allowed me to finish my project on time.
Stage 6: Action Plan
To overcome my weaknesses, I have decided to develop easily attained criteria for desired outcomes and realistic targets for project results. I will also be careful to schedule time slots for each work phase so that I do not exhaust myself trying to achieve perfection. In addition, I will make an effort to draw a line between my personal and professional lives so that I may stop overanalysing and prioritize my relationships with others.
2.2 Analysis of my skills as an HR manager
Strengths
With the help of Gibb’s model, I have identified my strengths in my communication skills along with my problem-solving abilities. Communication skills are one of the crucial factors for an individual as this particular skill helps the person to be able to give the best in their personal as well as professional life. With the help of these improved communication skills, I can provide my level best in any work field. As my communication skills have improved nowadays, I can start a conversation with any person whom I do not even know and can make a strong connection with that person (Szerdahelyi, and Komlosi, 2020,). With the help of improved problem-solving skills, I can manage all the issues related to work easily and mitigate them in a short time. I can finish all of the work with the time. By improving my communication skills as well as problem-solving skills I will be able to pursue my career in HR management within any organization and this will help me manage my team members effectively and efficiently.
Weaknesses
With the help of Gibb’s reflective model, I have also found my weaknesses that can make an impact on my career growth. The weaknesses that I have found within myself are Creative thinking and lack of technological knowledge (Roberts, and Nickel, 2021). As I want to pursue my career within the HRM department within an organization, I need to increase my critical thinking abilities and technological knowledge. While operating the previous project I have faced several challenges due to the lack of technological information and something I failed to cope with my leaders. Moreover, I was not able to give any creative ideas within the project that will be needed for the development of the organization (Covey, S.R., 2020).
3. “Task 2: Analysis of a Business Leader’s Skills”
3.1 Selection of the Business Leader
For the completion of this analysis, the selected business leader is Elon Musk. Elon Musk is a businessman as well as an investor. Elon Musk is the founder, owner, chairman as well as CEO of Tesla Motors and Space X. According to the report he is the second richest person as per report by April 2024 and his net income is $205.6 billion.
For the analysis, Elon Musk is the best business leader because he is the second richest person in the world (Akpur, 2020). To be able to achieve this position he has worked hard and is also aware of the current trends and technologies. Those have been implemented within his company and as a result, he has become famous and successful. By analysing him I will be able to understand his skills as well as the way he manages employees and his innovative thoughts will help me to enhance my knowledge to pursue my career as an HR manager (Utkerovna, 2023). The identified factors will help to implement any new technologies and innovative ideas aligned with the objectives and goals of the company so that it will enhance the development rate as well as the growth rate of the company and myself.
3.2 Identification of the Leader’s Skill
The most important skill that Elon Musk has or rather it can be said that he is mostly known for his capability to adapt quickly to any changes as well as the ability to change strategies according to the situation (Alaeddinoğlu, et al. 2022). He is not scared to take risks and he always takes any decision based on the future of his company he always thinks before making any decision whether that particular decision will be helpful for his company or not (Gafour, and Gafour, 2020). In the discussion of Elon Musk’s leadership approaches, Tesla’s success has become an achievement for him, however, in terms of managing SpaceX, he faced several failures before achieving breakthroughs. Moreover, Elon Musk has also struggled with multiple financial setbacks throughout his career, including being almost bankrupt at one point (Linkedin, 2023). During the time of failure, his team was not so happy with his leadership and they wanted to leave his company due to massive losses. However, somehow, Elon Musk was able to manage this team by offering various views and incentives which helped again to build good transparency among them. He has the best quality to manage his team members and he has also made a strong and healthy relationship with his employees and this has resulted in an excellent reputation for his company and himself as well.
With the help of the Conveys’7 habit model, the strengths and the weaknesses of Elon Musk will be analyzed. In this report, one strength and one weakness will be analysed for Elon Musk. As per the model, the third practice is ‘Think Win/Win’. This particular habit helps the person make risky decisions that should be helpful for the company. This is the strength of Elon Musk (Wangchuk, 2021). He usually takes any decisions that might be risky but if that particular decision is accurate for his company anyhow, he will implement those strategies within his business (Can, et al. 2022). According to the 5th habit of the model ‘seek to understand first before being understood’ this tells the leaders that leaders have to understand others be it their employees or clients not make them try to understand their leaders (Filiz, 2020). This is the weakness of Elon Musk. He doesn’t always understand the needs or the problems of his clients or employees. He mainly follows the Autocratic Leadership style that may aggressive as well as dictating for the workers sometimes.
3.4 Comparison with the Leader’s Skills
Elon Musk is a great leader who has brought innovation as well as implemented new technologies within his company and made the company and his business successful. It can be said that he is an innovative and creative leader and he helps the company to run smoothly and maintain its position within the global market (Tan, et al. 2021). Through his leadership skills, he has made Tesla Motors and SpaceX one of the most popular companies in the world and he has become the second richest person in the world.
This is the skill that I have to adapt within myself so that I can manage my team members and bring out the effectiveness in their work (Mukhiddinova, et al. 2021). The analysis of the leadership quality of Elon Musk has helped me to develop my critical thinking ability as well as my decision-making ability so that I can contribute to the company’s success and it will help the company to expand its business and increase the development rate and revenue generation rate (Al-Ubaidi, and Tukan, 2020). Along with maintaining healthy and strong communication with my employees I also have to increase my critical thinking ability (Drossman, et al. 2021). This will help me to understand and acknowledge any new trends and based on which I can make any decisions and implement new strategies and technologies within the business to enhance the development of the company.
4. “Task 3: Personal Effectiveness Enhancement Plan”
4.1 Introduction
The personal development plan is very crucial to improve and enhance personal growth as well as productivity within an individual. Having a personal development plan helps to evaluate the weak areas as well as also helps to identify the strong areas. It allows for improving the key areas of a person. It also provides some strategies so that by using and implementing those strategies in life a person can improve their future growth.
4.2 Development Areas Choosing
From the above analysis, I have identified main two areas where I believe that there is a lack present being an HR manager in a company. I have faced several challenges due to the absence of creative thinking and technological knowledge in me, which I think can create many obstacles for my HR career. To reduce these barriers, I have decided to make a PDP table by which I can improve those areas in a significant way.
Development Area | Objective | Action Plan | Timeline | Resources Required | Progress Measurement |
Creative Thinking | Improve creative problem-solving skills to enhance HR strategies and initiatives. | 1. Enroll in a creativity workshop or course.
2. Engage in regular brainstorming sessions with colleagues. 3. Explore diverse perspectives through reading and networking. |

4.3 Enhancement Strategies
Identification of the specific techniques and actions to improve the chosen areas
In today fast changing world, the world is working based on software technology. To be able to improve my technological skills I will have to attain several courses be it online or offline I have to expand my knowledge of the software and several new technologies that are ruling the market (Adeani, et al. 2020). I have to complete some courses on different languages, different projects, and some different software technologies so that I can implement those technologies within the organization to enhance the growth rate of the company (Markkanen, et al. 2020). To enhance my creative thinking ability, I have attended several workshops and seminars so that I can gain knowledge of the current trends it will help to enhance my knowledge and simultaneously it will enhance my creative thinking ability as well.
Incorporate short-term and potentially long-term goals
My short-term goal would be to improve my creative thinking and my technological knowledge so that I can pursue my career in HRM within any organization and will be able to manage my team members (Covey, 2020). Thus, it will result in an enhancement in their performance quality. My long-term plan would be to make a distinct identity to inspire others. By improving my personality, and my skills, and expanding my experience level I want to inspire those people who are working under my supervision so that the employees can consider me as their inspiration and a leader.
5. Conclusion
Therefore, it can be concluded that I have been able to find my strengths and weaknesses. I have also identified the importance of having a personal development plan. The personal development plan has helped me to identify my strengths as well as provided me with the key areas of weakness so that I can work on those areas to maximize my strengths. In the above report, we have also compared my strengths and weaknesses with Elon Musk who is a great leader. From those discussions, I was able to understand the crucial elements that are necessary to run an organization as a part of the HRM. As I want to pursue my career in HRM I have to expand my knowledge of technological skills as well as have to expand my creative thinking so that I can achieve success in my career.
