Impact of Covid-19 on HR practices and future workforce

Abstract

The aim of this proposal is to study the impact of COVID-19 on HR practices and future workforce. To investigate about the problems that HR managers faced in the running of their business during pandemic, the survey is planned to conduct among the UK HR managers. This source would help to gain large information about the areas that has changes by the HR team to adapt the different practices such as Recruitment, selection along with the training to employees. This research study has a wide scope as it would help many of the industries HR’s to deal with this pandemic situation as still effect of virus is not getting less. That’s why; this research work would guide the firms to take up right decision to keep running of organization.

Introduction

The impact of COVID-19 is an important aspect to study especially in present scenario where organization HR practices are affected a lot. Likewise, the coronavirus spread invisibly across the globe, nation after nation has declared lockdown and organizations have scrambled to comply with lockdown restrictions while striving to keep operations going (Kniffin et al., 2021). This time duration create extensive problem for HR managers to keep the business functions along with follow the regulations. However, work-from-home became the immediate solution to business continuity. This solution somewhere helps the business to carry out the task. Still managers asked for three attributes such as agility, creativity and flexibility in this lockdown. But it become quite difficult for the employees to stay connect with different team-members on constant manner. Other than that, HR practices include recruitment, selection and workforces training also get affected with the coronavirus pandemic (Cooke et al., 2020). This is because without visiting to office it won’t possible for HR manager to conduct the training sessions. Apart from this, increasing stress level with the improper work-life balances also affected the work productivity. Thus, these areas become a cause behind the impact of COVID pandemic to business HR activities.

Aims & objective

The aim of this study is to discuss the impact of Covid-19 on HR practices and future workforce. However, the reason behind to take up this topic is to learn what all strategies adapted by HR manager to deal with the coronavirus pandemic situation. To achieve this aim, it’s must to attain the objectives which are mention below:-

  • To study about the coronavirus pandemic
  • To identify the impact of COVID-19 pandemic over HR practice of UK organization
  • To determine the ways that adapted by HR managers to deal with the problem of pandemic

Research scope

This research study has a wide scope as the study about COVID-19 impact on organization HR practices would help to learn what all strategies that firms in UK are adapted and what improvements are required to deal the situation with more proper manner (Giorgi et al., 2020). Apart from this, the study will also helps the new researchers to consider this research work as a foundation to bring out new findings on topic. This study would also helps the firms to identify how HR managers can perform the HR functions on best possible manner. The study presents the coronavirus affect on business and how people manage to continue their work. Based on this information, HR manager can analyze future HR practices (Carnevale and Hatak, 2020). This way they can come up with relevant solutions to deal with the COVID problems.

Literature Review

According to Kniffin et al. (2021), COVID-19 is the infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus. The people who all are experiences with this virus experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment. This virus creates the situation where people started social-distancing and adapt the lockdown policy very seriously. This pandemic develops deeper impact over the organization HR practices. This is because HR practices are the ones that connect people with each other and support with continue performances of work (Agarwal, 2021). The problem of COVID-19 creates difficulty for them to continue the operations. For this, the work-from-home practice helped a lot to HR manager to run the business operations and this is done through use of digital technology which assisted to make better communication with other team-members. This kind of strategy assisted the business to operate the business but still the work-from-home technique can’t assist the HR manager to implement all the functions of HR. this is because the quality is definitely get suffered as hiring of people at digital platform does not allow managers to decide who is perfect for their firm. Apart from this, the work-from-home also responsible for creating stress level among the employees as their work-life balances get affected. These are the factors that affect the work result of individual’s. That’s why, it can be stated that COVID-19 pandemic consist of serious impact over the business functions like hiring problem along with difficult to train the new employees. This creates a sense of de-motivation among the people in regards to not able to perform well for the firm. The cutting of employee’s salary and layoff of people also influences the individual’s mental health. Thus, it can be concluded that COVID bring difficulties for the manager to manage the multiple human resources.

Research methodology

The researcher will complete the research study through use of positivism philosophy as it helps to gain in-depth knowledge about the study. Apart from this, researcher will also explore the primary method to collect the data and present the relevant findings to people (Norris et al., 2015). For this, survey would be conducted in dissertation among the UK organization HR managers so that they can know about the practices that manager uses to deal with the pandemic situation. The selection of managers would be done in the form of random method as it takes less time and proves to be worthy. The process to fill up the questionnaire will be done through use of emails so that COVID regulations can be followed.

The collected data will analyze through use of statistical method which is supported by graphs and charts. This assists to present the facts to reader on best possible manner.
