Introduction
Change management is a process through which a change can be brought in organisational processes, systems, techniques, workforce, the way in which they operate etc. In order to bring effective changes in an organisation it is important that the consent of all the stakeholders is achieved so that the change can be easily implemented without facing much resistance from any of the stakeholders (Bakari, Hunjra and Niazi, 2017). This help in effective implementation of change along with improving the way in which organisations deal in market. The managers and leaders of a company play essential role in implementing such changes as through their effective leadership and management skills they are able to influence the stakeholders so that they can accept changes. In this report a reflection on how change management is implemented in ASDA which is a British supermarket company founded in 1949 will be done so that the way in which it has become successful can be analysed. Also recommendations on how change management can be improved will also be discussed so as to bring effective changes in organisation.
Reflection
Managing change in an organization plays a crucial role in its success as change help them in growing in the ever-changing and globalizing world so that they can offer high quality of products and services. Change help in improving the processes and systems in a company through innovation which is important so that businesses can sustain over a long period of time in market. The change management models are concepts, theories and methods through which organizations can gain an in-depth insight on how they can bring desired change in organization. Change can be brought in an organization when the driving forces are more than the restraining forces which can help in bringing change (French, 2017). Driving forces are the ones that influence the organizations in bringing change in like technology, computer technology, changing customer preferences, change of governmental rules and regulations, change in competitor moves etc. All these forces need to be analyzed so that the need for a change can be developed in the organization. Also it is important that the change implementation is compared with their financial benefits so that bringing such change can increase the profit of company. Restraining forces on the other hand are fear of losing jobs due to implementation of new techniques which can make tasks less labor specific, lack of training and development of workers, lack of knowledge of importance of such change etc. It is therefore important that the restraining forces are identified by mangers and leaders so that stakeholders can be influenced into bringing required changes (Tang, 2019).
In ASDA the market statistics are regularly analysed so that the possibilities of bringing change in the company can be analysed which helped in bringing the required changes so that the company could remain competitive in the market. I as a manager in the company always tried to ease the workload of the workers so that their efficiency could be increased and they can accept the changes in an effective manner (Hayes, 2018). I used democratic leadership style so that all the workers could be involved in making decisions which can help in bringing their ideas and thoughts. This helped in motivating the workers to brainstorm and come up with unique ideas that can help in increasing profits of company. Also the commitment among workers towards their work increased along with improving their efficiency to work. It is also important that the change management model chosen by the manager is effective so that change can be implemented effectively. I chose the Kotter’s 8 step mode so that change can be effectively implemented in ASDA whenever required so as to enhance its competitiveness in market. The eight steps in this model includes 1) Creating a sense of urgency regarding bringing change in the organization which can be done by illustrating the facts t workers regarding how the change can make work environment more effective and help in improving the competitiveness of workers. 2) Building a strong coalition which can be done by influencing the workers and agreeing them on bringing change in company (Muranko et. al., 2018). 3) Forming strategic vision is also important so that the workers can understand about what they have to do in order to achieve the desired results. 4) Agreeing everyone so that they can enthusiastically participate in change implementation. 5) Identifying restraining forces so that they can be minimized. 6) Reminding workers about short-term wins so that they can accept change more effectively. 7) Accelerating the process of bringing change in the company through transparency, trust and teamwork. 8) Implementation of change effectively so that the benefits can be achieved and sustainability of ASDA can be increased (Valipour, Sefidkouhi and Raeini, 2017).
The above model can be used so that change management can be effectively done. While bringing online sales in ASDA I used this model so that the change in system of marketing and dealing with customers can be improved along with increasing value for customers. During bringing this technology I faced various oppositions from the staff members as they feared on how online sales can help in increasing the customer base and also this will affect the job requirement of marketing personnel in the company. I thereby analyzed the restraining factors and influenced them by training them on how this technique will increase the profits of company along with increasing their salaries. Also I assured the about no job losses as the traditional method of acquiring clients will also be carried on. With the help of democratic leadership, I was able to deal with the doubts and queries of workers in an effective manner (Rusk, Vella-Brodrick and Waters, 2018). Also the flat organizational structure of ASDA helped me in making quick decisions along with directing ad prompting the workers in right direction so that their efforts can help in achieving the desired objectives. Thus through right type of approaches and odes I was able to efficiently implement the change. This helped ASDA in acquiring more number of clients along with building a string brand image of company in market. Further, the change helped in going with the changes in retail market so that high customer satisfaction can be increased through improving their convenience.
Change management thus require all the stakeholders can be influenced so that they can support in bringing the desired changes. Based on my past experiences and the lessons that I have learnt I can recommend myself on improving my skills in implementing and managing change in an efficient manner. I need to attend training and development programmers so that i can enhance my interpersonal skills which can help me in bringing change more easily. Also I can attend seminars related with how various models of change management can be used so that better results can be produced (Skogland and Hansen, 2017). Effective communication also plays an important role in influencing the people so that they can understand my point of views and the way in which change needs to be affected. This will help me in being a good manager and will also open more job opportunities for me so that I can grow and develop along with enhancing my value in the market. It is also important that I reflect on all my experiences so that I can identify the ways in which I can become more capable in implementation of change. Managing change also help in gaining an overall view on the capabilities of a person in how effectively they can deal with others and influence them in thinking in the similar way. I therefore need to enhance my skills so that I can become a better influencer which can hele me both financially and also will improve my reputation in market.
CONCLUSION
From the above report it can be said that change is an integral part of any successful business which help them in prospering in the market along with dealing with changing customer needs and demands in an effective manner. Change helps a business in attracting more number of customers as the changing demands can be fulfilled in a better manner along with building a better brand image of company in market. Continuous and effective changes can make an organization successful over a long period of time. It is also important that the financial feasibility of such changes are analyzed so that high profits can be earned by a business. The managers and leaders must efficiently apply change management approaches and models so that desired state of company can be achieved.
