GLOBAL POLICY AND STRATEGY ASSIGNMENT SAMPLE 2023
Primary Reflection
The group task that was assigned to us was a major source of learning and gather experience on the topic of ‘Entrepreneurship.’ The theoretical knowledge that we had gathered earlier during our course of study enabled us to work further on the given assignment, and because of the extensive knowledge we gathered from earlier modules, we could successfully comprehend and complete our group task.
When the task was assigned, I was quite eager to understand my roles and areas of research. My sole purpose was to expand my learning horizon with the assigned part, and so I was more than welcome for any part of the assignment. As our work is based on the topic of entrepreneurship, I always knew in my mind that I need to imagine myself as an entrepreneur before I indulge in the work and conduct relevant research on it.
So, my line of thought was based on the entrepreneurship ground. My contribution to the task has been through extensive research on the conceptualization of organizational culture. My in-depth research and study helped in understanding the concept of organizational culture in a much better way. As I was supposed to work on the section ‘Organizational culture’ of the assignment, I religiously concentrated on my part and attempted to contribute to the best of my ability.
According to me, my group did really well in certain aspects like researching on the topic, gathering and creating, and a large database of key information about the chosen company and the target country. An area where my group could have done better was interpersonal communication. I felt that there was a gap in communication amongst my team members which prevented the free flow of information amongst us.
Secondary Reflection
My overall experience from the group assignment has been great and full of learning. I believe I not only gathered more knowledge about the subject and the various concepts but also I got to apply the previous learning modules into the assignment.
I was one of the five team members who were selected for the group task on ‘Entrepreneurship’, and I purposely requested my tutor to include my friends in my team so that there are no interpersonal barriers that may hinder the project delivery. I was lucky to have a desirable team and felt quite motivated and enthusiastic to work on the assignment.
I took up the part where I had to work on the organization culture, team effectiveness, and analytical model applicability. There was a particular situation that is worth mentioning as could exhibit my conflict management skill. Once, while we were having a video conferencing call to discuss work status, we identified that one of our members was not working on his part of the assignment and often depended on us.
Seeing this, another member was quite anxious and soon a conflict began that made us waste a considerable amount of time. At that moment, witnessing the unending arguments, I took up the role of a mediator and pacified both of them. Finally, they understood their faults and apologized to each other for being unnecessarily rude to each other. Finally, we could complete our discussions and in turn the assignment quite satisfactorily.
Future Intentions
By participating in the assignment, I realized the significance of teamwork and related theories in practice. I gained a lot of confidence in linking my theoretical knowledge with a practical research study. I could acknowledge my contribution and responsibilities towards a team effort.
I could feel that my communication as well as negotiation skills improved considerably. There was much coordination in our work which was often initiated and regulated by me. I dedicated all my efforts and concentration to the work; however, after the accomplishment of the assignment, I could identify areas where I went wrong or probably could have done much better, and this is what gaining experience means. While working with teammates, I appreciated the entire idea of working cohesively and towards a common goal.
However, while practically going through the process, there were times where I felt I should have taken specific roles of others and do it on my own to reduce the bustle and confusion of joint-working. I might have felt so a couple of times out of frustration when my team member did not understand my instruction or argued with me. So, I believe that I should have been more patient and accommodating to allow my team member to speak freely and given inputs.
Nevertheless, I have learned that teamwork is the best way to work when you have limited resources and time. Another aspect that I learned from the teamwork is that different perspectives and opinions do not necessarily indicate confusion or argument; rather it brings forward various ideas that are effective in making sound decisions for planning. In the future, I would like to apply all the acquired knowledge while working with other assignments. With experiences from this study, I have developed a certain managerial approach that I would like to apply in my future work.
Gibb’s Reflective Cycle
The model comprises of the following stages:
Description – The group task was a great learning session for me. Our team comprises of five members including me, and we worked on the topic ‘Entrepreneurship.’ When the team was formed, we divided the task into ourselves depending on personal strength areas.
Feelings – While working on the assignment, I felt that I gained immense knowledge about a lot of things and also could apply my theoretical knowledge to it. I felt my leadership qualities were being tested and that I could effectively lead the team and drive through each stage of the task.
Evaluation – One thing I would like to improve in myself is that of effective communication. When I found relevant information and data about the work, instead of sharing it with others I felt so engrossed in continuing my work. This could have restricted the effective flow of information, and that information could have been of use to others as well.
Conclusions – During the ongoing of the assignment, we often held meetings and discussion sessions to update each other on the progress status, clarifying doubts, and sharing of knowledge. We constantly stayed in contact with each other through video conferencing, overcall, and messages.
Action – As I had a managerial background, I was quite influential to my other members and even they could identify my leadership qualities. After sessions of brainstorming as well as careful considerations amongst ourselves, we came up with an excellent business plan and structure to work on.
