HR7004 MENTAL WEALTH: PROFESSIONAL EXCHANGE AND APPLIED RESEARCH ASSIGNMENT SAMPLE 2023
Part 1: Reflective report on MH In-sessional
While attending the MBA Skill Centre classes, I learnt the importance of analytical skills. From the sessions, I have realised that analytical skill is viewed as an essential competency by employers. Analytical skills help in practical understanding of a situation and contribute to efficient decision-making abilities (Ahmad and Pesch, 2017). During the classes, I understood that I needed to work on my analytical abilities. This particular skill is applied to evaluate various aspects of a specific situation and use the observations to find available solutions. I believe that analytical skill helps support the application of the most effective solution. To develop my analytical competency, I undertook assignments such as critically thinking about the topics I had researched, comparing arguments presented by different authors on a topic, evaluating different cases to understand the level of efficiencies and other activities. I considered asking for feedback from my mentors to learn about my effectiveness in implementing analytical thinking. Another thing that I did during the sessions to improve my analytical skill was to carry out a detailed research and wide reading. I have learned that collecting adequate information concerning an area results in better evaluation of the case or situation. Sufficient evidence is necessary to support analytical thinking and its application (Ahmad and Pesch, 2017). Therefore, I focused extensively on increasing my level of knowledge to develop my analytical thinking. I think from a career perspective; this particular competency will help me deliver appropriate problem solving and decision-making capabilities. These abilities, in turn, will strengthen my ability to lead teams in contemporary workplaces.
Part 2: Reflective report on Personality questionnaire and Mental Wealth Competencies
Extraversion
I agree with the score I have attained in the context of extraversion. I achieved 78 in the case of extraversion. The test report highlighted that some of my traits, being an extrovert, are assertive, friendly, preferring working with others and enjoying leadership roles. I do enjoy leading teams and guiding them to achieve specific targets and goals. I remember once, during a group project, the team leader fell ill, and I took up the responsibility to lead the team during the project presentation. My team members later stated that they felt encouraged and motivated due to my constant support and assistance. My ability to interact and listen to others has helped me in understanding the interests and emotions of others. I have received feedback that I am able to positively influence and regulate the feelings of others. In past group assignments, often, my team members had stated that my words and interactions establish a positive sense among them. I can relate this personality trait with social and emotional intelligence. According to the definition of social and emotional intelligence, it reflects the capability to influence and regulate the personal feelings and emotions of other people (Maxim, 2021). The personality test assisted me in realising that I have emotional intelligence, and it is helping me to use my extraversion trait in achieving suitable opportunities. Currently, I am using my extraversion trait in combination with emotional intelligence to deliver proper leadership and teamwork skills. I can also link the competency of cognitive intelligence with the extraversion trait. Interactions with others help me in gaining knowledge to deliver appropriate problem solving and critical thinking.
Agreeableness
I received a score of 52 in the context of agreeableness. The capabilities mentioned in the test report in relation to agreeableness are compassion, preferring co-operation instead of competition, preventing conflicts, being good-natured, and eagerness to please. I can tally some of my abilities with these characteristics mentioned in the report. I am in favour of co-operation instead of going for a competition. During team works, I always try to collaborate and work with my team members instead of competing with them. I feel like assisting others and also learning new things from my group members to strengthen my level of knowledge and awareness. I agree that I have compassion. Many of my peers do come to me to share their problems and situations. I try to help them out if possible or just listen to them to make them feel better. I am against conflicts and therefore try to prevent them by identifying ways to improve the situation. I can link this specific trait with community connections. Community connections represent the ability of a student to mutually benefit from communications with the community (Christopherson, 2020). The establishment of co-operation with others and being compassionate have supported me a lot in enhancing my awareness of different areas like culture. Therefore, I can also associate the competency of cultural intelligence with the trait of agreeableness. I have got the opportunity to work with team members belonging to different cultural backgrounds. While collaborating with them, I gained ideas about the differences and similarities between various cultures.
Natural Reactions
My score is 47 in the context of natural reactions. According to the personality test report, the score is neither high nor low. High scores would have indicated that I am easily affected by emotions, and this would result in stress and anxiety. Low scores would have indicated that I am greatly resistant to emotions. My score is in the middle, and this indicates that in certain situations, I can get affected due to emotions. Previously I had no idea about such a trait. However, this report increased the level of my self-awareness. I have the tendency to experience stress and anxiety when situations do not remain under my control. For example, once I had exceeded my task deadline, and that resulted in significant stress and anxiety. As a result, I was unable to deliver a better analysis though I had done detailed research. Thus, extreme situations can result in negative emotional actions on my part. I am capable of maintaining a proper balance between my work life and personal life. Family-related tensions and issues have never affected my academic or professional performance. I can link this trait with emotional intelligence. In extremely critical situations, I have observed that my level of emotional intelligence degrades as I become unable to regulate my feelings and emotions. This leads to negative impacts on my actions and decisions. Therefore, I must try to improve this characteristic so that I am able to handle extreme pressure at the workplace.
