Assignment Sample on Internships on Supply Management
Introduction
Business organizations all over the world depend on supply chain management for increasing the profit margin. Due to the development of technology, there is various technologies that help business organizations to boost their performance (Abdullah et al. 2017). The retailer and manufacturer fully depend on supply chain management for meeting the demands of the customers. Excellent management of the supply chain helps to reduce the overhead costs and minimizes the expenses of the business. I am doing an internship in supply chain management. I was also involved in a group activity in this internship program. It was very useful as it helped me to learn a lot about the importance of supply chain management with the help of modern technology.
Discussion
I will be using a Gibbs cycle to relate my experience of the internship. In the internship, I gained knowledge about the shipping status, lean inventory, and order process tools which are very beneficial for business organizations for increasing their brand reputation. On the other hand, I used the Gibbs cycle because I feel that this can help everyone to develop a deep insight into my learning and development. It is an excellent framework for analyzing the experiences gained (He et al. 2018). It provides a clear understanding of the topic and helps to evaluate and analyze the experience gained.
Description
I have attended the internship program of my college. The authorities have taught us about the importance of supply chain management. Business organizations all over the world depend upon supply chain management for increasing the experience of the customers. Customers are the most important part of the business organizations and excellent management of the supply chain helps to enhance their experience. We have learned about the tools that help in supply chain management. The first tool we learned about was the shipping status tool. This tool helped to provide information about the delivery of products to the customers. Large business organizations have the pressure of a huge volume of supply hence it is very important to track the supply process. This tool provides a detailed review of the supply. The status of the stakeholders, the details of processing, and many others details can be gained with the help of these tools.
We also learn about the order processing tool. The main benefit of this tool is it provides detailed information about the billing, fulfillment of an order, cash, processing, management, and many others. This detail is very useful for business organizations in order to track their process (Van Segbroeck et al. 2017). The last tool we learned about was the lean inventory tool. This tool provided detailed information regarding the warhorse capacity, customer demands, the number of raw materials needed to meet the demand, and many others (Gonçalves et al. 2017).
This tool helps the business organization to plan their labor, costs, maintain a proper budget, and many other functions. This helps the firms to save their costs and increase their efficiencies of management. This tool helps the firms to understand the demand of products, manage their employees, reduce wastage of raw materials, increase customer satisfaction and manage risks in the supply chain. This internship cleared concepts about the management process. I feel that these tools are very essential for multinational organizations and also small firms to enhance their business efficiency. Moreover, the group activity helps us to gain practical knowledge about the usage of these tools.
Feeling
I felt that this internship was very essence; for me to increase my knowledge about supply chain management. Additionally, I gained knowledge about the complexities of the supply chain. Traditionally the business organizations used to purchase excessive raw materials, without having detailed knowledge about the demands of the customers (Pane et al. 2018). The tools I learned about provided a detailed insight regarding the requirements of the customers. This information can help the firm to increase the efficiency of the employees. Proper training can be provided to the employees in order to increase their skills and knowledge about the business operations. On the other hand, a proper update of the shipment status can help the firm to make decisions regarding how to fix these delays. This can increase the loyalty and experience of the customers. This was my feeling after the internship process. I felt that the other people who were present in the internship program have also understood the importance of technology regarding supply chain management.
As I am a management student, detailed knowledge about these tools is very important to increase the productivity of any company. “Real-time updates” about the supply chain are very important to increase the reputation of the company. Property management can increase the competitive advantage of their company in the market. These tools are very flexible and can help the authorities of the company to keep an update about the shipment process. It also helps to reduce the amount of time taken to process the orders. In the traditional process, the invoices and PO’s regarding the delivery process used to be sent manually (Richards et al. 2020). This can increase the risks of faults in processing the orders. Furthermore, it helps to plan the materials required for the process, forecasts the demands, and schedule the delivery process. The group activity helped us to increase our knowledge about the usage of these tools and the way to fix risks in the supply chain.
Evaluation
The internship process has helped me to gain knowledge about the delivery of orders, inventory process, and order shipment. I can understand that these three tools are very essential for increasing the competitive advantage of any company. On the other hand, I feel that there are many other complexities in supply chain management that were not taught in this internship program. These are tools regarding the management of the warehouse, demand forecast, and management of suppliers, freight handling, and many more. It is very necessary to track the suppliers as without their help the business organizations are unable to manufacture products (Oluwaseyi et al. 2017).
Contrary to this, the management of warehouses is essential for planning, managing logistics, and many others. Detailed information about these would have increased our knowledge and helped to manage the supply chain more efficiently. As in all the internship programs we were assigned a project which helped us to evaluate your development. In this group activity, we were assigned to deliver the products to the customers.
I was a team member of this group and as we learned about the supply, inventory, and order processing tools it helped us to control the process very well. We were able to efficiently track the orders and supply them to the customers. Moreover, these tools helped us to provide a detailed insight into the packaging, billing, shipment, and delivery of the products. These details help us to fix the problems with the labor and process planning of the company (Szabó et al. 2017). The problems we faced were when the customers were increasing for the company. Improper knowledge of the warehouse management tool restricted us to develop proper knowledge about the packaging of products, increasing the capacity, and many other factors. Though the inventory tool provided some details about the warehouse, it was not enough to develop a detailed insight into the warehouse management.
Analysis
The theoretical knowledge provided to us during the internship helped me to gain knowledge about the use of tools. This tool helped us to improve the interaction with customers, staff members, delivery staff, members, and many others. Interaction with the customers is very important in order to increase the customer experience. This has helped my team to understand the problems faced by the customers and their demands in detail. This knowledge is very useful for a business organization to develop the products and understand the existing trends of the market.
On the other hand, increasing communication with the staff is very essential to understand their problems (Renani et al. 2017). This helps to improve the frameworks and policies of the company regarding staff management. On a contradiction, the order processing tools had provided flexibility to the customers. It rather helped to reduce the complexity of the management. I feel that these activities were properly handled by our team in the group activity of the internship program.
I think that it is very important to develop knowledge about the various activities of the warehouse. Managing vendors and suppliers is also very essential for a successful business. If this is not done properly then the business organization may face problems with the scarcity of raw material, production of goods, and many more. This group captivity was very essential as it helps me to develop innovative knowledge for handling customers, staff, and management processes. Furthermore, it helped me to develop my critical thinking and problem-solving capacity. We were also able to develop knowledge regarding the way to manage conflicts. Conflict management is very essential for the proper working of the business. Improper conflict management can result in the turnover of the staff. This can also pose a threat to the brand reputation of the company.
Conclusion
I have learned about the importance of customer and employee management from this internship program. It is very important to establish proper communication with them and for this tools are very necessary. Without the implementation of tools for the inventory, order process, and supply tools it is impossible for the business authorities to gain information on the supply chain management. These tools also help the customers to track their shipment details (Leaven et al. 2017). Contrary to this, excellent inventory management can be done with the help of these tools. This helps to save the expenses of the companies and thus increase their sales. Another benefit of this system is that it helps to manage the stocks of the company. It also helps to improve the negotiations of the business, increase the efficiency of decision making, better visibility of products, and many others.
I feel that the internship program needs to talk about other tools like warehouse management, suppliers and freight management, and many more. This would have provided us with detailed insight into the usage of tools. I think that the knowledge of these tools can help me to increase my skills and knowledge about the management of supply chains. On the other hand, this knowledge is very important for increasing the customer base.
Action plan
I think that I need to take an advanced course regarding the technology and tools involved in the management of the supply chain. This knowledge can increase my capability to handle supply chain management in a better way. The procurement process cannot be handled without proper management of the suppliers (Ďurišová et al. 2020). Supply tools are essential for increasing the partnership of the business. This tool can also help the business authorities to under the contribution of the suppliers in the business. On the other hand, information about the warehouse can help me to increase the number of storage to meet the customer demands.
I feel that next time wherever I perform a group activity or if I join a company this knowledge can help me to understand the importance of tools and technology. Contrary to this, I think that I have gained a lot of knowledge about the technology that is required for managing the supply chain. Hence, a course in these tools can help me to expertise in managing the supply chain.
Conclusion
I have analyzed that all multinational companies use technologies in order to increase their business performance. These tools are very essential for managing the costs and reduce the complexity of the supply chain. I have understood that these tools help to reduce errors in management. In addition, I think that more implementation of technology in the supply chain can enhance the productivity of the business. The brand reputation and loyalty are totally dependent on the customers and hence the implementation of these tools can help the firms to increase customer satisfaction. I also felt that the group activity was very essential for me to increase my practical knowledge regarding the implementation of these tools.
