Heavy Video Gaming
Heavy video gaming is referred to as the digital gaming for four hours or more in a day. The driving interest of the young generation in online video gaming has caused gaming disorders. Gaming disorders are the overindulgence of digital games in daily routines, causing negative consequences (World Health Organisation, 2020).
Risk Factor
As explained by WHO, gaming disorder has been undertaking a negative impact on the occupation and relationships due to the prioritisation of gaming over other activities for the youth. The habit of online gaming parallels substance disorders and gradually converts to addictions like gambling. There are rarest cases of the extremity of the gaming causing death accidents have also been reported. The increasing technological inclination will lead to anxiety, obesity and discomfort amongst the youngsters. Thenceforth, the rising use of heavy video can be treated as a significant risk to youth mental and physical health.
Not a Risk Factor
It has been evident that introducing any new technology is prone to resistance. Society is fearful of the changes but later may tend to promote them. World Health Organization and American Psychiatric Association have been trying to classify the internet gaming disorder as an addiction only (Cooke, 2017). There are some pros of heavy gaming in terms of mental health and positive competition among the youth. Social engagement along with video gaming may not result in depression or anxiety.
Conclusion
The report has depicted that the health hazards of heavy video gaming also come up with the mental development of the youth. There are some positive implications of the video gaming, which have been effectively mentioned with the vulnerabilities that have been currently experienced.
