LD7080 Academic Language Skills Assignment Sample 2024

1. Introduction

There is a new disorder for the people who are playing the video games as per the world health organization (WHO). The new disorder is called the “gaming disorder”. The gamer in this disorder loses the sense of the time while playing the game and gives priority to the games than any other activity in life (Who.int. 2021). These are creating problems in education, relationships and occupations. This paper will discuss whether the disorder is posing a risk to the person or not.

  1. Reasons why heavy video gaming may be a health risk

There are several video game-related health issues that can result in skin abnormalities, strain strains, and other health issues. Since players keep looking at the computer screen, video games can cause vision issues. This can cause dizziness, headaches, nausea, and vomiting.

Some gamers have musculoskeletal issues in the thumb, hand, and back of the neck as a result of constant gameplay (Webber, 2021). Since players do not engage in physical exercise, excessive gaming contributes to obesity. Seizures have also been identified in a large number of heavy gamers.

3. Reasons why heavy video gaming may not be a health risk

Heavy gaming is used in pain treatment because the concentration required to play a game is greater, distracting the player from the sense of pain. In some areas, gaming is also used for occupational therapy. The medicinal effects have also been discovered in some wheelchair-bound patients (Cooke, 2021). Video games are also used to help patients with developmental disabilities improve their spatial and social abilities.

4. Conclusion

People of all ages enjoy video games, although there is no knowledge of the extreme acute problem of excessive game playing. Furthermore, the symptoms are uncommon and mild, and they resolve rapidly by shortening the game playtime. So, more in-depth research on the condition is needed, and for the time being, parents and adults who engage in heavy gaming should strive to prevent all disorders.
