Leadership and the health and well-being of the employees, along with diversity, play a crucial role in driving organisational growth. Owing to this, in this study, a discussion will be done on the leadership, health and well-being and diversity in NPP occupational therapy Ltd.

Introduction of the organisation

NPP occupational therapy Ltd. is a small organisation belonging to England, UK and delivers different types of human health services to clients (Find-and-update, 2023). In recent days the organisation has operated in the market with its new name called, Well Way Rehab Solutions Ltd. It has been stated by Karl that the Well way holdings Limited has three companies which include NPP Rehab Assist, NPP Occupational Therapy and NPP Speech and Language Therapy [Refer to interview transcription]. Although the organisation effectively operated in the market since they actively participated in the growth, since the time of the pandemic, the organisation faced different types of issues which intervened in their active growth.

Leadership

Leadership refers to the ability of an individual or a specific group of people in order to guide and influence followers of an organisation or members of society or team. In the views of Cortellazzo et al. (2019), the role of leadership is vital in order to capture the real value of an organisation in the age of digitalisation by significantly retaining and managing talent. On the other hand, Singh et al. (2023) argued that leadership is inherently grounded in innovation, strategic functions of management and digital transformation. With reference to the case study, Karl works as a leader in NPP occupational therapy Ltd. and as a leader, Karl focuses on making effective decisions in order to lead the organisation towards success [Refer to interview transcription]. At the same time, greater communication is also another area that Karl and other leaders within the organisation focus on. Relying on this, the application of transformational leadership theory can prove effective.

According to Purwanto et al. (2021), transformational leadership theory emphasises sharing an effective and good relationship with the team members. In this context, Karl as a leader, focuses on professional development and increases the potential of the team members [Refer to interview transcription]. Pertaining to this, it can be assumed that as leader within the organisation, Karl focuses on developing good relations with the employees, which has helped the employees to increase their productivity.

On the other hand, focusing on the transformational leadership quality of the leaders showcases that transformational leaders always look through opportunities to ensure creativity and innovation within the workplace (Shafi et al., 2020). Corresponding with this as Karl and other leaders within NPP occupational therapy Ltd. Focusing on the innovation and staff development processes; thus, the existing leaders within the organisation adopt transformational leadership styles in order to deliver better outcomes in the business. On the other hand, as transformational leaders, the managers of the organisation also encouraged the employees to actively communicate with the other employees, which led the organisation to incur better problem-solving capability within the workplace culture. As stated by Yaacob et al. (2019), communication plays a significant role in terms of solving issues among employees, which positively influences productivity and professional development.

In association with leadership capabilities, Karl states that at the time of the pandemic, the leaders within the organisation faced issues in relation to making effective decisions [Refer to interview transcription]. Based upon this, it can be inferred that the leaders within the NPP Occupational therapy faced decision-making issues which impacted the capability to incur better services to the clients. As per the views of Kin & Kareem (2019), decision-making is the competence of making appropriate choices among alternative courses of action. As a leader, it is essential for the existing leaders within the organisation to make significant choices in different alternatives. A lack of decision-making capability among the leaders within NPP Occupational therapy affects the planning progress of the business. In this way, a lack of growth has been seen during the pandemic period in the organisation, though in the lockdown period, almost each of the organisations faced issues regarding slow growth. Taking into account the above discussion, it has been found that the leaders within NPP Occupational therapy follow transformational leadership styles, whereas the lack of decision-making capabilities of the leaders incurs negative experiences.

Health and wellbeing

The health and well-being of the employees refer to looking beyond the mental and physical health of the employees to remove their personal and professional hardship. According to Goldenberg et al. (2021), a healthy working environment can positively impact the mental and physical well-being of employees. On the other hand, Tzenios (2019) stated that organisations should prioritise the health and well-being of employees through healthy behaviour within the workplace. Corresponding with this, Karl, as a leader in the NPP Occupational therapy Ltd. Significantly focuses on staff development, and in order to bring changes in the decision-making, Karl meets with the team members through Skype twice a week [Refer to interview transcription]. Pertaining to the above statement, it has been identified that as the organisation effectively focuses on the development of the staff, thus, the mental and physical well-being of the employees has also been demonstrated by the directors. In association with this application of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory, the motivation of the employees is driven by five needs, including physiological needs, safety needs, love and belonging needs, esteem needs and self-actualization needs (Numonjonovich, 2022).

The health and well-being of the employees can be demonstrated under the physiological needs of the employees. In this way, by contributing to employees’ mental and physical health of the employees NPP Occupational Therapy Ltd. is able to motivate their employees and significantly increase their productivity. As the organisation effectively promotes staff satisfaction and development thus, it can be assumed that the organisation promotes work-life balance for the employees. Ahmad (2022) highlighted that work-life balance among employees helped employees in order to bring balance between their professional and personal life. Hence, by promoting flexible working hours for the employees, the organisation significantly contributes to the mental health of the employees, whereas the employees spend time with their family members.

On the other hand, it also can be assumed that the organisation also provides health insurance benefits to the employees, which is beneficial for protecting employees’ physical well-being. At the same time, Putri & Amran (2021) describe that encouraging breaks between working hours is also effective for promoting the well-being of employees. The organisation also provides break take to the employees to relieve job stress.

Diversity

As illustrated by Salter & Migliaccio (2019), diversity within the workplace can be defined as a tool in order to improve the workplace discrimination context. Therefore, Fine et al. (2020) made an argument that gender diversity initiatives are quite controversial. It has been identified that Karl describes workplace culture as being innovative, being creative and bringing improvement in the productivity of the employees [Refer to interview transcription]. Based on the above statement, it can be inferred that NPP Occupational Therapy Ltd. actively promotes effective workplace culture by incorporating diversity and inclusion within the workplace culture.

The application of Hofstede’s Cultural theory can be beneficial in this context in order to define the workplace cultural context within NPP Occupational Therapy Lord. In this context, as opined by Gerlach & Eriksson (2021), cross-cultural comparison through Hofstede cultural theory often investigates values which create long-lasting impacts on human conduct.
