  1. Causes of Change between the period 2019-2021

Covid-19 Pandemic

Yacoub and ElHajjar (2021), mentioned that the Global pandemic affects the number of employees as, during the pandemic, the resort and hotel industry is mainly destroyed. More than 100,000 staff has remained on unpaid leave throughout the pandemic. It has been observed that at present time Disneyland is suffering from understaffing issue that has also affected the satisfaction of the visitors (mickeyblog.com, 2021). The shortage of staff in Disneyland cannot be recovered from the year 2019 to 2021. After the pandemic, the number of visitors has increased but the number of staff remains decreased. Job security is behind this situation because during the global pandemic people has lost their job at Disneyland entertainment company. In the future, similar situations will occur, and people can also lose their jobs that make a financial crisis. Secured jobs have become the primary concern of every people in post-Covid 19 society.

Organizational leader’s insufficiency

Disneyland Paris has 223,000 employees in the year 2019 which decreased to 203,000 in 2020. At present Disneyland has only 190000 employees which are not sufficient to give existing experience to the visitors. The employees who have been terminated during the Global pandemic, the organisation leaders are also present and hold vital positions in Disneyland management, executive, and administration teams. After the pandemic, the recovery of these experienced leaders is not possible which is also a major reason for the present condition of Disneyland Paris. Instead of being a global company that has already made a good image among the people, has failed to run the business successfully.

Figure: McKinsey 7s model

(Source: whatfix, 2022)

When industries are looking forward to bringing change and managing the change properly, McKinsey’s 7s model is considered an important initiative by the change practice honors. Increased complexity in the industry and corporate expectations as made of the McKinsey 7s model as the first preference for managing the corporate changes in the industry (whatfix, 2022). McKinsey’s 7s model can be used in various ways where it is appropriate and useful to examine situations in different parts of the organisation. This change management model can be used in improving the industry’s performance or in implementing strategies for performing better. Also, the managerial department and the department of HR staff can use the McKinsey 7s model for managing new changes and implementing the changes properly.

Advantage of McKinsey 7s model

  • McKinsey’s 7s model can easily be considered an appropriate change model for maintaining the productivity and the working process of human resource staff so that it can leave a positive effect on the industry. Also implementing the McKinsey 7s model in the human resource staff department can improve the teamwork of the organisation.
  • As McKinsey’s 7s model has the feature of analyzing the performance gap of the industry this model can easily be implemented in the managerial department. If the managerial department can accept the change with the help of this model it can easily change the whole industry. Pham et al. (2019), stated that the main agenda of the managers is to undertake the whole industry to analyze the performance gap. From this perspective, McKinsey’s 7s model can help managers to bring changes that can improve the industry’s performance.
  • Another advantage of McKinsey’s 7s model is this particular change management model will help the managers to map out the future achievements that should be fulfilled in a short time for the industry’s better growth.MBA7000 People and Organisations Assignment Sample Fatimah et al. (2020), mentioned that when managers can figure out the needed changes for future growth it would be easy for the industry to achieve those goals. It can say that alignment of the essential elements of the industry can help in achieving the desired goal of the company.MBA7000 People and Organisations Assignment Sample

These advantages of McKinsey’s 7s model are quite useful for the managers as well as the human resource staff for mapping out the industry’s essential growth and changes that can help in making the industry better for the future.

Disadvantages of McKinsey 7s model

  • The main disadvantage which has been observed of McKinsey’s 7s model is that this change management model cannot explain the organisation’s performance bluntly. From this perspective implementation of this change management model in the managerial department can make a negative effect on the industry. Because managers are looking for the overall performance of the industry in which individual performance is not that important to them. Managers mainly make goals that need to be achieved in a limited time for the industry’s growth.
  • On the other hand, implementation of the McKinsey 7s model in the human resource, staff department can ruin the whole industry’s working process. Because McKinsey’s 7s model cannot explain the organisation’s performance in detail, the employees who are working cannot be recognized individually. The HR staff of the industry mainly deals with individual performance. Gupta et al. (2020), stated that failure in detailed explanations about organizational performance can be a huge issue for any industry or department.

After considering the advantage and disadvantages of McKinsey’s 7s model it can say that the advantages of this change management model are more noticeable rather than their disadvantages. An in-depth analysis can dismiss the limitations of implicit explanation of the organisational performance. If the managers deeply analyse the industry’s performance it would not be difficult for them to identify the employee’s performance which reflects the organisation’s performance. From this perspective, McKinsey’s 7s model can be considered an appropriate change management model which can support the industry from every department and perspective for analysing its performance of togetherness. Rosenbaum et al. (2018), stated that it is sure that an appropriate change management model can support the industry from different perspectives and can provide an explanation for every action. Also, McKinsey 7s model can help the human resource staff to analyse individually the employees’ performance so that the goal which has been said by the managers can easily be activated. As every organization has operated in different sectors but required similar efficiency in every part, the appropriateness of the McKinsey 7-S Model is quite effective. Various parts of an organisation can similarly be effective and govern properly with the application of the McKinsey 7-S Model. From this perspective, this model can be applied in any type of organization. Every performance gap can easily analyze in an industry if the application of the McKinsey 7-S Model would be done.
