Introduction
The outbreak of the Covid-19 has impacted industries and businesses throughout the world and due to this reason Multinational Corporations (MNCs) of the UK have also been affected which has further increased the necessity of technological transformation. This research proposal aims towards analysing and evaluating the impact of the Covid-19 on technological transformation in MNCs of the UK.
Background of the research
The outbreak of the Covid-19 has impacted the MNCs in a profound way where reduction in the manufacturing and sales of the products have been creating acute crises in the global market and eventually impacted on the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the UK in a negative way. However, it may be added that the breakout of the Covid-19 has resulted in closure of many firms and industries which has a catastrophic effect on the UK economy as well as global economy to a great extent (Keogh et al., 2020).
It needs to be implied that digital transformation of the MNCs has become extremely essential in order to overcome the global challenges which are responsible for the reduced rate of production. It has to be opined that the research will become beneficial in analysing and evaluating the various important aspects of digital transformation in order to further boost the growth and development of the MNCs of the UK.
Justification of the research
The research will provide the MNCs of the UK reliable ways to overcome the difficulties and issues created due to the pandemic by adopting digital transformation which will generate positive results for global business operation. It has to be acknowledged that enterprises and organisations are paying attention towards the increasing dependency on digital technologies where cloud-based systems are used for storage of data (Kamalipour and Friedrichsen, 2017).
On a broader note, it needs to be mentioned that the research will definitely prove fruitful in gaining competitive advantage in the industry by focusing on the necessity of digital transformation of the MNCs of the UK in order to confront the challenges and problems created by the Covid-19.
In other words, it may be stated that numerous changes in the existing business models have been taking place with the help of digital transformation for improving the productivity of business organisations (Galimova et al., 2019). The research will provide assistance to the MNCs of the UK in overcoming the hurdles which have been generated due to the outbreak of the pandemic.
Research aims
The research aims towards achieving success in improving the performance of the MNCs of the UK with the help of digital transformation in order to overcome the various unpredictable threats and challenges generated due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 in the whole world. Additionally, the research will also focus on the ways in which MNCs of the UK may adopt digital transformation in order to generate desirable results in the long run in the post pandemic phase in order to operate globally.
Research objectives
The following are the important objectives of the research:-
- To successfully implement digital transformation in the MNCs of the UK that help the MNCs to hold the position in the global market
- To analyse and evaluate the challenges and issues related to digital transformation in the MNCsof the UK
- To provide suitable solutions to the existing issues of digital transformation through implementing a strategic approach
Research questions
The following are the important questions of the research:-
- What are the ways to implement digital transformation in the MNCsof the UK in a successful way to achieve global success?
- How to achieve optimum levels of productivity and performance by adopting digital transformation of the MNCsof the UK?
Literature review
The breakout of the Covid-19 in the world has entirely changed the global business scenario where businesses have faced unprecedented consequences which have ultimately deteriorated the performance as well as productivity of the employees. It may be opined that imposing strict restrictions in the UK have impacted the growth and development of the MNCs in a negative way where shortage of skilled workers and employees have become a serious cause of concern.
It has to be added that maintaining social distancing and reduced workforce has also become a major reason for the reduction in the production process which has affected the MNCs to a considerable extent. Apart from this, it may be stated that widespread digitization and increasing dependency on technologies have provided a reliable way to boost the industries in facing the adverse effects of the Covid-19 (Stalmachova et al., 2022).
Along with this, it has to be proposed that several changes have been made in the policies and frameworks of the MNCs in order to cope with the new situation where adoption of technologies including Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become important as well as effective.
The use of AI and advanced algorithms will certainly prove beneficial in improving the overall performance of the MNCs of the UK by generating accurate and reliable results for world business operations. On a contradictory note, it needs to be argued that implementing these advanced technologies will definitely increase the financial burden of the MNCs and due to this reason, proper attention is to be given in managing the financial matters of the MNCs. Changes in the management department of the MNCs also become important in order to adopt the consequences of the changes in a positive way (Hooi, 2019).
Research methodology
Research philosophy
Interpretivism research philosophy will be followed throughout the research as it relies on the personal interest of the person carrying out the research and it also becomes beneficial in paying attention towards a specific role of the research. Moreover, it has to be implied that interpretivism research philosophy is often considered to be a critique of the positivism research philosophy (Alharahsheh and Pius, 2020). Interpretivism research philosophy aims at achieving an in-depth knowledge by analysing the views of the respondents whereas positivism research philosophy focuses on the laws and theories to derive a reliable conclusion.
Data collection
The process of data collection will be done through interviews with the different stakeholders associated with various MNCs of the UK and all the questions will be open ended questions which will certainly assist in understanding the various essential aspects of the respondents.
The data collection process will also pay attention towards forming a questionnaire which will address the issue related to digital transformation of the MNCs of the UK and will also focus on following all the ethical considerations in order to protect the privacy of the participants in the interview process. However, it may be mentioned that developing a clear understanding of the research philosophy as well as various approaches becomes quite essential in accomplishing a research in a successful way (Saunders et al., 2015).

Sampling technique
Non-probability sampling will be done in this research in order to generate reliable and trustworthy results at the end of the research where a subjective method will be followed as it generates quick results. Furthermore, it needs to be asserted that sampling reduces time and cost of a research along with providing confidence to the research in generating reliable results among a vast range of possibilities (Etikan and Bala, 2017). Non-probability sampling will also definitely provide an added advantage in selecting the necessary samples by rejecting all the unwanted or less important samples.
Data analysis
Data analysis will be done by following an inductive approach where qualitative data analysis of the primary data collected through interviews will be done with utmost care and precision in order to generate authentic research results. On the other hand, it has to be argued that qualitative data analysis is considered to be a powerful way to analyse the collected data in developing alternate perspectives on a particular subject (Jackson and Bazeley, 2019). Qualitative data analysis will definitely provide assistance in understanding the various factors associated with digital transformation of the MNCs of the UK.
Research ethics
The research will be done by following all the research ethics in order to avoid any sort of complexities which may hinder the overall research process and due to this reason attention will be given towards maintaining privacy of the respondents. No laws and regulations will be broken in order to avoid any sort of legal complexity which may impact the research process in a negative way. Apart from this, protection of human rights will be treated with utmost care in order to carry out the data collection through interviews in a smooth way (Arifin, 2018).
Research limitations
The research may face difficulties in conducting interviews during the Covid-19 situation where several restrictions imposed by the government may hinder the various essential activities associated with the research. The research may also face challenges regarding the availability of the respondents due to their busty work schedule along with scarcity of financial resources which may impact the research process in a negative way.
Time frame
The time frame of the research has been provided in the Gantt chart which clearly shows the required time for different actions which needs to be done during the research (Refer to Appendix-1).
Conclusion
In a concluding remark, it may be clearly stated that the research will definitely become successful in providing a clear perspective on the various aspects associated with digital transformation and its impact on the MNCs of the UK in overcoming all the challenges and problems of the Covid-19.
