Along with this, professional skills develop maturity and dedication in a person to work in a professional career. This study focuses on having a discussion on professional skills for employability. For this purpose, the study identifies and describes the professional skills required to be successful in the workplace. The importance or need for the skills to be effective in the workplace has also been explored in the study.
Task 1 – Describe professional skills for employability
Professional skills are highly important for success in a career. In modern workplaces, professional skills are important for success as well as competing with fellow workers in a workplace. Communication, team work, time management, problem solving, leadership, interpersonal, self motivation, and creativity are the most common form of professional skills required to become successful in the workplace. Communication skill involves the ability of a person to communicate through different communication approaches like formal, non formal, or different modes of communication like verbal, non-verbal, etc. (Kurtz, et al., 2017). With the presence of strong communication skills, a person increases the ability to share information as well as ideas through verbal or written communication. In a professional career, the chances of having complications are high. In order to solve the complications or issues in the modern workplace, problem solving skill is required in a person. With effective problem solving skills, a person can analyse information and develop the best possible solutions. The competitive scenario of businesses has also enforced workplaces to become time efficiently. Due to this reason, time management skill is important for prioritizing tasks and better management of time. Better management of time in the workplace can help in improving productivity and contribute to organizational growth. Team work is another important skill required for employability. Team work is the ability to work well with others and contribute to the success of a team. Teamwork improves the overall productivity of an organization (Fox, et al., 2018). This is because the collaborative work approach under team work helps to reduce work time and increase production. Leadership is also a professional skill required for inspiring and guiding others toward a common goal. Leadership skill is required in a professional career to increasing the chance of success. It can help an organization to work and progress toward success with a long term vision. Other than this, interpersonal skills, creativity and self motivation are also important in a professional career. Interpersonal skills involve the ability to interact and develop relationships with colleagues, customers, etc. With the presence of effective interpersonal skills, a better relationship can be developed which is highly important in the contemporary era to progress in a professional career.
A person is more likely to get and keep a job if they have a certain set of abilities which is known as employability skills. There are several reasons that exist that justify the reasons for having effective skills in the workplace. The skills improve people’s appeal to prospective employers: Employers are seeking employees with the qualifications and qualities necessary for them to succeed in their positions and contribute to the development of the business. The skills raise the likelihood of being recruited and promoted: People with good employability skills are more likely to be chosen for job interviews and presented with work opportunities. They have a higher chance of getting promoted and moving along in their careers. Employability skills enable people to carry out their job responsibilities more successfully and efficiently, which can raise productivity and job satisfaction (Nisha & Rajasekaran, 2018). Strong employability skills make it simpler for people to switch to different occupations or industries, which increases career mobility. They can boost earning potential: People with employability skills can successfully negotiate higher compensation, which can eventually raise their earning potential. Many employability abilities are transferable, which means that they may be used in a variety of jobs and industries. Employers place a high value on employability skills since they are crucial for job success and progress. People who possess excellent employability skills are more likely to find and keep jobs as well as grow in their professions. In consideration to my existing skills, I can say that my ability to interact quickly and easily with others is quite effective in developing relationship. In workplace, it can have better implications for customer relationship management. While the ability of problem solving is effective for me to solve critical issues that can arise in a company.
Conclusion
Based on the overall analysis, it is concluded that employability skills are highly important in modern workplaces. The intensity and need of competition, and the demand for success are the major reasons for having the importance of these skills. The presence of employability skills like communication, team work, and problem solving can help an organization tackle complications. Along with this, the road map for success also becomes smooth for the companies.
