Introduction
Significance of this study is to examine project management leadership and skills in planning as well as controlling key requirements of the project. Strong leadership skills in project planning and controlling are considered as essential practices in making changes to quality standards or procedures in the overall project (Schwolgin, 2022). http://Project Management Leadership and Skills Assignment Sample
This study sheds light on evaluating a proposed case study that focuses on successful creation of leisure and shopping villages by Sunset Homes.
A. Planning and Controlling
A1. Mission and Objectives
Mission
A good, concise and inclusive mission statement of a project would be helpful to understand clear objectives and requirements of a project for the management team and staff. As per views of Bushuyev and Verenych (2018), the mission statement would also be credible and inspire stakeholders towards the proposed project.
Minute analysis of project detail reveals formation of leisure and shopping village by Sunset homes with the help of potential project management team. Additionally, in terms of understanding detailed information of “Dementia Village Project”, the project management team of Sunset Homes decided to convert their garden space of a Care home in Lancashire into “Dementia Village”.
Proper planning of this creation of care homes would be helpful in providing independence to the individual residents and acquiring quality of life. Setting an inclusive and concise mission of “Dementia Village Project” would also be beneficial for visitors and the local community to acquire better experiences in daily life.

(Source: Created by Author)
Development of SMART objectives in “Dementia Village Project” will create a positive impact on stakeholder planning, value generation aspects and result in achieving desired benefits. The company namely “Sunset Homes” has not attempted such a project in previous years and no such template as well as planning has also been obtained by the company.
On the basis of analysing desired outcomes and value generation, it can be asserted that if this company will be successful in this care home project, then Sunset homes will consider a similar project at desired place.
According to Willumsen et al. (2019), generation of potential value through Smart objectives in project management helps to understand the core business of project entities. On the basis of this project, value generation would be considered as a project requirement plan for evaluation of dementia village. As a result, development of smart objectives will increase engagement of stakeholders towards this project by acquiring a unique selling point.
A2. Stakeholder Management Plan
Appropriate development of Stakeholder management plans in the project process helps to maintain potential interest of individuals towards the project. As per views of Pedrini and Ferri (2018), stakeholder management planning is beneficial to establish a strong connection with third party groups along with individuals.
Management of stakeholder planning helps to deliver suitable planning to customers and formulate new policies at the initial stage of the project. In terms of analysing “Stakeholder Management Plan”, four individual stages would be considered such as “Identify”, “Analyse”, “Plan” and “Engage”.
Figure 1: Stakeholder Management Plan
(Source: Inspired by Pedrini and Ferri, 2018)
Identify
“Identify” is considered as an initial stage of a stakeholder management plan that involves searching individuals, groups and third parties in selected organisations. Proper identification of individuals or groups stakeholders would directly affect and influence the success rate of a project.
On the basis of “Dementia Village Project”, residents, local community and visitors are considered as internal stakeholders in this project. On the other hand, national organisations, companies, contractors, board of directors, planning manager, facilities managers and staff are contemplated as External stakeholders in this project.
Analyse
Once identification of both internal and external stakeholders would be identified by the proposed project management team, then it will be helpful to analyse their interest and requirements individually. A detailed analysis of this project helps to address key requirements of internal stakeholders. Potential and efficient project management team would be initiated by Sunset Homes for transforming the garden space of a care home in Lancashire.
As the care home is approximately 40 miles from Manchester city, the project management team decided to convert it into Dementia village. According to requirements of internal stakeholders, proper creation of this project would be beneficial for them to access quality of life for the local community. Care homes of Sunset Homes operated over 18 properties and acquired 90 residents. Majority of residents were suffering from dementia.
This project will be helpful to dementia people along with visitors to access quality of life. On the basis f requirements of external stakeholders, bringing potential success in this project would be effective to prepare future care home conversions.
Plan
In this stage, it helps the project management team to acknowledge potential ecosystems of stakeholders. However, on the basis of this stakeholder ecosystem, it helps to prioritise the interest level of stakeholders.
As a result, planning of project stakeholder management towards interest level helps the management team to establish proper planning along with additional cost in advance. Multiple staff will be acquired to receive proper dementia training to patients in care homes.
Engage
Final stage of project management planning is helpful to engage and explore interest of individual stakeholders towards this project of dementia village for managing significant collaboration.
Development of appropriate engagement with stakeholders in this project, construction of 54 shops, fencing and landscaping were almost done. Moreover, some parts of this project are already completed related to planning permission, standard or protocols, initial costs and securing architectural planning.
A3. Project Activity Plan

A4. Resources allocation and Utilisation plan
Table 2: Resource Assignment Matrix (RAM)
Application of “Resource Assignment Matrix” in resource allocation of projects helps to estimate total cost or budget along with resources in each stage of project. In this RAM practice, project resources are assigned to each work package within an effective manner.
As per views of Devadiga (2018), proper utilisation of RAM attributes by the project management team helps individuals to obtain emergence of each task in the project. This resource assignment matrix is helpful in ensuring collaboration and project success through development of roles as well as responsibilities of stakeholders. In this context, it is necessary to evaluate potential as well as required resources in the overall process.
As per these instances, budget allocation is considered as major resources in the project. For the Dementia Village project, the all inclusive cost for the project is estimated at £425,000 and the initial cost for training as well as research is £6000. Additionally, national organisation Sunset Homes estimated additional cost in advance for approving the concerned project.
Designing, planning and construction related resources are obtained by the project management team as secondary resources in the Dementia Village project. External qualified staff, training manager and staff are required to develop facilities in the village. Training equipment is also required to provide appropriate training in dementia. Finally, technological resources are also required to facilitate daily activities of residents in care homes.
A5. Cost estimation and allocation for setting duration of project
List of parameters in project | Estimated cost |
Initial training and research | £6000 |
For building works | £698000 |
Inclusive budget | £425000 |
For project management team | £928000 |
Total | £1221000 |
Table 3: Cost and Budget planning
(Source: Created by Author)
Use of cost estimation techniques
In the Dementia Village care homes project, “Parameter estimation techniques” would be used to estimate overall cost of the project which is £425000. Proper utilisation of this cost estimation technique is helpful in approving additional cost for forming building construction, fencing and landscaping.
Planning permission for each work stage would be estimated to proceed with initial quotes of building work. Under these parameter estimation techniques, the project management team is able to initiate projects within an estimated cost or budget (Holm and Schaufelberger, 2021).http://Project Management Leadership and Skills Assignment Sample In this context, four individual contractors have quoted their total cost and resources in the initial stage of this project.
A6. Time schedule
Figure 3: Key Activities and Milestones
A7. Risk Management Plan
Risk name | Risk Summary | Likelihood | Impact | Mitigation plan |
1. Resource management | Inappropriate resources in planning permission and resources allocation may lead to project failure phenomena in initial planning of quotes in building work. | High | High | Using Enterprise resource planning (ERP) software would be helpful in overcoming this risk in resource management. |
2. Cost management | Inadequate estimation of budget or cost in the project can create potential obstacles in project deliverables. Moreover, commencement of building project work would be disrupted in Sunset Homes. | High | High ` | Management of overhead and turnover rate will be effective in reducing these risks. |
3. Project deliverables | Insufficient maintenance of project deliverables can result in causing failure of project management phenomena. | Medium | Medium | Considering an effective execution process would be helpful in reducing these risks from the Dementia Village project. |
4. Project quality | Inadequate leadership and planning as well as controlling activities in securing architect plan and building works can lead to failure of project process. | High | High | Integration of facility manager, designing manager and contractors would be helpful in securing the quality of the project. |
5. Legal penalties | Inadequate planning permission in building work of care homes can resulted in immediate closure of dementia b\village project. | High | High | Consideration of effective legislative requirements in projects helps to reduce such risks. |

B. People Management
B1. Five Strategies to tackle source of conflict
In terms of understanding conflicts in project, it can be observed that Dementia Village project building commenced at beginning of September 2022 to complete before the end of August 2023. Under this time period, some parts of the project are already in progress such as architectural plans, initiation of building works and planning for persimmon.
As some work stages of this project have already been undertaken by a national organisation namely Sunset Homes, conflict can be arising in planning and scheduling during the project process. Rapidly increasing conflicts in planning and scheduling can create potential issues in the project delivery process (Bond-Barnard et al. 2018). http://Project Management Leadership and Skills Assignment Sample
In this context, lack of required scheduling and planning creates difficulties in providing required training to external staff to acquire appropriate dementia training. Absence of appropriate planning and scheduling in this dementia village project can result in promotion and marketing with the local community.
Five individual strategies would be implemented by the project management team of Sunset Homes, to tackle potential conflicts in scheduling and planning.
Conflict resolution strategies | Explanation |
Strategy 1: Avoiding | Utilisation of this strategy in Dementia village project helps the team to avoid interpersonal lack of skills in setting project planning. In this context, it helps to reduce power of dominance and set a proper plan for proceeding next steps after application for planning permission. |
Strategy 1: Competing | This strategy would be helpful in reducing potential loopholes in allocation of training and planning regarding dementia training. |
Strategy 3: Accommodating | In this strategy, a satisfactory resolution would be taken by the project management team to promote and market this project with the local community along with visitors. |
Strategy 4: collaborating | Managing collaboration strategies with external stakeholders helps the project management team to resolve concerned conflicts of scheduling through establishing a shared solution. |
Strategy 5: Compromising | This last strategy would be effective to incorporate and cooperate with project mission and objectives. Development of suitable scheduling and planning after reducing conflict, a planning for permission would be created for completing construction of care homes. |
Table 4: Five strategies of conflict management
(Source: As inspired by Bond-Barnard et al. 2018)
B2. Importance of sponsor in Dementia village project
Majority of organisations have implemented sponsors in project management planning to improve their products, services and system. As per views of Haq et al. (2018), project sponsors are responsible for ensuring continued customer involvement and meet key requirements of stakeholders in the project.
Sponsor is also involved in setting a proper plan to community directly with external and internal stakeholders. As a result, it would be beneficial to explain significant aspects of the project with relevant requirements. In this context, project sponsor would be required to the Dementia Village project to fulfil requirements of local community, visitors along with visitors.
Ensuring strategic significance of project (Initiation)
Project sponsor endorses as well as defends valuable investment of resources at the initial stage of the project. In the Dementia Village project, project sponsor involved in creating effective design along with an inclusive budget to convert garden space of care homes into Dementia Village.
As a result, it helps the residents of care homes to access independence and better quality of life.
Providing sufficient funding and approval for project (Planning)
Development of inclusive funding and permission of planning helps to make potential progress in building work in this project of dementia village. As a result, in Dementia Village of care homes, 5 shops, fencing and landscaping will go on.
Diversified shops like paper, book magazine, coffee shop, food farm and ice cream parlour would be included. Suitable approval of the project during the planning stage by the project sponsor would be helpful in the inspecting process by Council’s building inspectorate. Moreover, it has been approved by the Care Quality Commissions.
Supporting board of authority of national organisation (Execution)
In the execution stage, project sponsor plays a vital role in supporting the board of authorities of national organisation Sunset Homes. Integration of Care Quality Commission in the project helps to monitor quality of provision of all care homes.
As per these instances, if this project will be successful then it would create positive impacts on further inspection of the Care Quality Commission in July 2023. Development of this concerned plan in the execution stage would be helpful in reducing risk factors of dementia among residents within an effective manner.
Supporting key stakeholders (Performance)
In the stage of performance, project sponsors would be responsible for obtaining social services and healthcare professionals on a daily basis to visit care homes.
As a result, it would also be effective to monitor and maintain the well -being of residents.
Ensuring potential accessibility, timeless and closure of issues (Closing)
Under the closing stage, the project sponsor would be responsible for marketing and promoting this project with local community and governmental bodies in UK. Emerging success in the project process of Dementia village will be conducted at an opening ceremony and affiliated by governmental bodies in UK.
Moreover, senior company staff, the mayor of UK, care home staff and families along with residents and local community people will be involved in the opening ceremony of this project in early August 2023.
B3. Identification of appropriate management style for project manager
For the Dementia Village project, project managers should follow a “participatory management style”. This management style helps to maintain a potential collaboration with the other team members under any decision making and problem solving approaches (Odoardi et al. 2019). http://Project Management Leadership and Skills Assignment Sample
In this context, development of this concerned management style helps the project manager of Dementia Village project to integrate qualified external staff for providing required dementia training. Allocation of proper resources in project planning would also be effective to integrate an electronic card system for residents in this care home.
New facility manager would be integrated in this project by the project manager to introduce new policies and additional responsibilities during the project process.
Discussion and Conclusion
The above discussion depicts the evaluation of an appropriate stakeholder management plan by analyse, identify, plan and engage processes to explain objectives and mission of Dementia Village. Application of project activity plan would also be helpful to address breakdown of each stage in project planning and estimated resources within an effective manner.
Identification of five risks in the dementia village project also helps to create a shopping and leisure village by the project management team of Sunset Homes. In the process of people management, scheduling and planning related conflict would be considered in this project.
Finally, development of participatory management style for project manager would be help to bring success in this project and prepare for future care homes conventions as well.
