SG7001 Managing Strategy Operations and Partnerships
ACTIVITY 2
1. Introduction
The discussion has shed light on the Managing Strategy of the company, Operations and Business Partnerships of all the activities that are based on the “Sothema pharmaceutical company”. In this section, the supply chain process of the company as per the kajric matrix will be discussed. Here, the lean manufacturing process and agile manufacturing process have been taken into consideration.
2. Supply chain
In this section, the supply chain of the Sothema pharmaceutical company has focused on the five suppliers and the customers of the company. Sothema is noted as a 100% Moroccan pharmaceutical company which has specialized in selling and manufacturing medicines since 1976. The company can extend their production capacity up to 60,000,000 per year. Sothema is effectively listed on the “Casablanca Stock Exchange since 2005”. The five suppliers are AAI pharma, Almac Group, Sanofi, manufacturers, wholesale distributors, and pharmacy benefit managers. The customers of the company are organisations that are conducting their business in the international market.
3. Kraljic matrix
The company used kraljic matrix, which is stated as a method used for analyzing and classifying the purchase portfolio in order to guide the companies with their procurement strategies (Amrani et al. 2016). The main objective has laid emphasis on maximizing the competition among the potential suppliers. This mechanism also helps in maintaining the purchases based on different projects (Lahmiri, 2017). Moreover, the strategies have focused on building an effective partnership with the suppliers and providing intense care to core operations.

4. Lean manufacturing
The lean manufacturing process has helped in estimating the level of waste generated from the operations. Apart from the above, the process has also emphasized over cut costs, and optimisation process so that the innovation skills of the company are boosted (Harti, 2012). This helps in reducing the time and the volatility rate for changing the global perspective of the company. Through lean manufacturing, the company is also able to identify how and when to produce by reducing the transaction cost.
5. Agile manufacturing
The mechanism of Agile manufacturing has effectively focused on the product design and the customer’s context so that more personalized attention is provided to the core operations. Hence, it has used all the latest technologies such as “API Freeze Drying” which will help the company to derive a quick response to the demand of the market (Saied and Aiash, 2022). Moreover, it is very important to integrate with the information of the environment. Hence, the cooperation of the supply chain in the agile methodologies is generally involved with both external and internal alliances (Ghorfi and Hatimi, 2017). Lastly, it is very important to focus on the employee’s training so that the agile manufacturing process establishes a good learning base.
6. Decoupling
The discussion has shed light upon the Decoupling process where a situation is taken in which two or more activities are taken into consideration and there are cases where these activities are not developed in the same way (Ladid et al. 2022). For example, in the medical field, if the machine process and the staff are reduced the company will fail to meet the desired demand of the clients and will fail to serve the targeted demand. SOTHEMA has its own portfolio for around 300 products and it is based over strong partnerships with more than 35 prestigious national and international clients.
7. Conclusion
Hence, it can be concluded that Sothema is a leading pharmaceutical company, which basically represents 35 laboratories and is ranked among the global leaders. The manufacturing facility of the company is also considered as the leading plant in Morocco. The company has effectively accepted the industrial standards of engineering in the fields of pharmaceuticals.
