The recent Covid-19 situation has affected work all over the world including the tourism industry which is a highly effective income bound industry of the world. In the post pandemic situation, tourists have to be more mindful in order to understand the present gravity of the situation and visit places according to the mindfulness driven services provided in the hotels (Stankov et al.,2020). Moreover, the lockdown situation has affected the travel situation all over the world with maintaining Covid-19 safety protocols. Moreover, recent trends have given efficient travel opportunities for the tourism industry such as staycations, digitized guests experience with contactless technology, personalization, new hospitality skills and assessment management and sustainability (Hospitalityinsights.ehl.edu. 2021). Tourism is one of the biggest industries of the whole world as it creates huge income and also several income opportunities among the people for well-being and sustenance. In order to satisfy the customers and bring progress to the tourism industry, the tourism industry in every dimension is taking up digitalization as a medium of communication due to the Covid-19 protocols. Moreover, the more and more application of dynamic social media platforms into the tourism industry and creation and collaboration to many digitized platforms have helped the tourism industry to flourish more efficiently during and after pandemic (Ardito et al., 2019). Therefore, this helps the tourism industry to flourish and helps to manage the customers well and good so that the customers remain happy. Thus, in order to make the business run efficiently and well for the industry to sustain even such grave times the people need to take up desired strategies for that.

Employment

In the UK, the tourism industry has provided 11.3% of total employment as compared to 12.0% of the year whereas in India, the tourism industry has provided 7.3% of total employment in the year 2020 as compared to 8.8% in the year 2019 (Wttc.org. 2021a).

Gross Domestic Product (GDP)

The contribution of the UK tourism industry to GDP was 4.2 % in 2020 as compared to 10.1% in 2019, however, the contribution of the Indian tourism industry to GDP was 4.7% in 2020 as compared to 6.9% in 2019 (Wttc.org. 2021a).

Expenditure

In the UK, the international visitors spend 1.7% of total exports in 2020 as compared to 4.9% of total exports in 2019. In comparison to international visitors, domestic visitors spend 75.6 billion dollars in 2020 in comparison to 205.5 billion dollars in 2019. The business expenditure of both domestic and international is 26% in 2020 compared to 32% in 2019 on the other hand leisure expenditure is 74% in 2020 compared to 68% in 2019.The increase or decrease in the flights depends highly on tourism in which in 2020 departures 100% as compared to 95% in 2019. In comparison, the arrivals in 2020 were 91% from the rest of the world to 100% in 2019 (Wttc.org. 2021a).

On the other hand, in India the expenditure of international visitors is 2.5% of total exports in 2020 compared to 5.8% of total exports in 2019. In addition to that, domestic expenditure is 97.2 billion dollars in comparison to 140.1 billion dollars.The business expenditure on the other hand of both the domestic and international is 3% in 2020 as compared to 6% in 2019 while the leisure expenditure is 97% in 2020 as compared to 94% in 2019.The increase or decrease in the flights depends highly on tourism in which in 2020 departures 101% to 95% in 2019. In comparison, the arrivals in 2020 were 97% to 98% in 2019 (Wttc.org. 2021b)

Critical reflection

I have analysed the GDP, expenditure and employment provided by each of the countries which proved the amount spent by both the countries and the loss both of them have encountered due to Covid-19 situation. During conduct the research, I have learned that the tourism industry is vast and wide and it helps the growth of country’s economy as well as it increases my knowledge in a positive way. Moreover, the GDP of the country helps in understanding more about the way the country is profit making and the way tourism industry is helping in order to increase the GDP. Apart from thus, I have summarised that a proper financial plan is to be required for the tourism industry to calculate operating costs which in turn help the industry to measure profit from the business. Finally, I have concluded that although Covid-19 has negatively impacted on the tourism business, still, with the help of social media platform, the business may occupy and enhance the business growth.
