Establishing team procedures

For the course, we developed a team with 4 members. At beginning each and every member of the team was overly pleasant as well as polite to each other.

At forming stage, all the members of our team were so much excited for knowing each other and to learn something new. At the start, there was little communication among us. We all wanted to know interpersonal skills, interests, backgrounds of each teammate. At this stage, we start to form different responsibilities as well as roles of teammates. It is crucial to know each other and to understand each other (Arrey, 2014).

In storming stage, the weight and reality of finishing the activity provided have been realized by our team member. Politeness worn off and excitement was becoming conflicts in some issues (Jaca et al., 2013).

In the norming stage, we started to appreciate each other’s strength and notice some weakness also. Two members of our team are really good in communication; so, it benefited in performing the task. Our team channelized in this stage.

In the fourth stage, we all teammates are now motivated, familiar and confident with the team as well as project. Now we are able to lead our team without external supervision. Each member is going towards the goal.  In performing stage, everyone is striving to achieve objectives (Khurana, 2013).

In adjourning stage, with the completion of the project the team is disbursed. The face is also commonly known as mourning as members have become close and suffers from a feeling of loss of their relationship.

At the beginning, the team was formed; member of the team was not familiar. It was too hard to talk openly to each other. Initially, we were not saying mistakes of each other because we voiding any kind of conflicts issue within the team. But, it is very necessary to tell mistakes and weakness of other teammates to improve performance of the team. Among us, A and B are very good listeners for new ideas and developments. On the other hand, C and D are very good in communicating and asking new ideas, improvements and feedback to improve performance. Team forming process is done in best manner because of support of each member. Each member was very clear to ask any doubt instead of maintain silence and make-believe everything is clear (Lynn and Kalay, 2015). Now each teammate is comfortable to communicate to each other.

Identifying expectations

Forming a team is to perform a task together. Each and every teammate is supposed to play his role and responsibility efficiently. If any member fails to contribute its part for the task, whole team has to suffer. Team members are expected to negotiate as well as communicate for identifying the task they want to complete. Roles and responsibility depends on the strength and weakness of an individual. These all result in expectations for individuals particularly. Once we feel comfortable with each other, team started to allocate roles and responsibility.

The overall team expectation was divided among different members of the team. Member A was made responsible for effective communication as well as coordination among members as well as between different activities of the team. Member B was expected to manage the activities as per plans. Member C was expected to finalize the plans based on available data and information. At last, the remaining member was expected to have an eye on the various activities perform by the team and suggest correction wherever required.

Working in a team in different situation has offered us opportunities for developing our skills in communication in practical manner, surrounded by real life environment (Nielsen and Nielsen, 2013). During my placement I have come to realize that communication skills as well as interpersonal skills.

While working in team we have learned that communication skills play a crucial role. The core component of an effective communication skill involves the ability to express oneself in clear manner and listen to other with full attention (Peters and Carr, 2013). As a team the varied background of member have not cause much issue in the team as everyone was comfortable with English language. Even when a member find problem in expressing self then other members help in understanding the meaning in the message. This has taken extra time but the goal of the team was clear that no doubt or ambiguity remains in the communication has it will impact the final performance of the team. Communication in team has also improved my listening ability which has enhanced by commination skills and would help in all paths of my life. The environment of the team is very positive and favorable that each member contributed his / her own ideas freely for instance while discussing about the stories of user, all members were open for new ideas and listen every one and provided reasons with respect to feasibility of the ides. All members were actively involved in the discussion and arrived at a consensus regarding user story that is achievable (Xue, Bradley, Liang, 2010). If in the discussion any ideas seem to be impractical than it is kept aside and more importance is given to realistic ideas which has made the overall team work more effective.

Effective communication and good communication a skill of members of the team is a major factor in getting effective performance from the team (Arrey, 2014). Based on my class room learning I was clear that two way communications provides better results than one way communication and in team work we have to put our points with reason to make them accepted by all. There were questioning, reasoning, justification and all which has also taught us the skills of negotiation. While communicating I have also used the theories of communication read in the class. For instance conflicts in the group are very common and for resolving those conflicts requires lot of patience and courage. Besides this, performing in the team has also boosted our confidence to a new level.

One more crucial aspect related to teamwork is interpersonal skills as well as support of every member (Khurana, 2013). We commenced to remind one another the new tasks required and shared resources on Google drive and other digital platforms for providing support to one another. C is supposed to write agenda for activities and meetings and A is supposed to communicate to all teammates; so that v can prepare us. Member B managed all the process for team performance. Allocation of tasks, roles and responsibility supports team by writing out solution for probable issues are very beneficial for team. More improvements are expected to be gained in prospect future. Working in a team, interpersonal skills are developed by completing individual role and responsibility towards the team. There were many issues, barriers and obstacles like language barrier. But, with supportive teammates it has been easy to solve these issues. We are striving to improve more and more in theory and practical issues.

Specifying the consequences for failing to follow these procedures and fulfil these expectations

Individuals’ actions are taken together to accomplish a common goal makes a team. Each member of the team has to put efforts in order to accomplish goals. In the team, each member plays important role. Sometimes due to uncontrolled conditions things goes unfavorable. Theory and practical both are different aspects (Lynn and Kalay, 2015). If a member fails to put required effort, whole team has to pay for that. Each member was expected to play some important roles and responsibility. But there were some issue arose during the team performance. Language was one of the biggest obstacles in our team. Due to communication gap and language barrier unfortunately work delayed than standard time. Language barrier took some more time to complete the task.

In order to accomplish all tasks timely, teammates must be punctual. Members of our team were not punctual all the time. Because of which there was sometimes conflicts among the members of the group. Also there were situations when the team fails in a particular task but fixing of responsibility and taking authority of failure is a complex feature in a team structure. This is so because all members are in relationship with one another and pointing out figure on any one member make that member demotivated. In such scenario we have learned that when working in a team the failure of one is a failure of team and whole team must take the responsibility and learn from such failure and work on the inefficiencies that have resulted in such failure. We have learned that team has the advantage that even when a member is going wrong then the other member must correct him /her as soon as possible.
