Module code and Title: CIS120-6 Research Methodologies & Project Management Assignment Sample

Introduction

Presently, there is a huge need for storage batteries for many reasons like rising concerns on environmental degradation, vaulting fuels and rapid development of societies. Grid batteries can be used as alternative energy storage sources, and this technology can harness the need of modern people.

At the time of taking online lectures from our professor in BREO on 18th July 2022, we came across several topics to illustrate while we determined to select this research to understand its importance in the future aspects. In order to collect information in this regard several tools and resources we used. Some of them are reputed online platforms like Udemy, Unacademy, 360 learning and others. Apart from them the journals covering research data on grid batteries and their applications, websites with updated contents and news articles are also considered.

Discussion on RACI Matrix, Accountability and Responsibility

According to the RACI matrix, we divided the roles and responsibilities of our team. The four parameters of the RACI matrix namely “accountable”, “responsible”, “consulted” and “informed”, ten participants are marked and their role in the project was clarified. With effective communication, we also participated in the practical session twice a week. There are also online sessions and discussions within the team with the help of different social media platforms and video calling platforms like Google meet and zoom.

In order to conduct the research effectively the PRINCE 2 methodology was categorised into six major areas. The areas are “tolerance”, “scope”, “time”, “cost and risks”, “quality”, “benefit” and “evaluating the progress”. The tasks were allocated to individual team members. Under special cases depending upon the efficiency, some members were allocated to more than one member of the team.

Accountable

In the research, I was accountable to deal with project management and determining the RACI matrix. After a broad discussion in this regard with the team members, it is decided the leading part of the project was going to be executed by me. I have good communication skills, quick response abilities and the presence of mind to take the appropriate decisions.

In this regard, I was accountable to determine the roles and responsibilities of each member of the group and depending upon that preparing a RACI matrix. Depending upon the skills of the team members it is my role to distribute the responsibilities associated with the project. Therefore, any erroneous approach by the members is the subjects of my concern too because of my accountability in preparing the RACI matrix. It was very important to understand the importance of the research, know the measures to be followed in it and determine actions depending on the challenges of the project’s progress (Schultze et al. 2020).

It was needed to supervise the project briefing, and lessons learned from the report, highlighting the report, structuring it and making a sound judgement on the legal and ethical report (Aleksovska et al. 2019). Alongside I also needed to supervise the file processing and finding reviews and responses from social media platforms. The design of a poster to showcase the entire project in a brief manner effectively was a tricky task. In this regard, my accountability lay on the poster design.

Accountability is the most important part in the research because it renders the responsibilities on the participant to which role the person is appointed. In my case it is preparing the RACI matrix therefore all the problematic issues in this regard are my intrinsic concern and it is my accountability to overcome it.

Responsible

In this case, the responsibility was to develop a project initiation with the briefing for the project and then highlighting the critical terms as well as the objectives and main aim of the research. The analysis of the role of batteries and their “conjugation with renewable energy sources” were evaluated in a format of a document. Understanding the role of grid batteries, their conjugation with renewable energy sources and other important matters were included by me for the team to conduct the research effectively (Kurbatova et al. 2020).

Considering the importance of their usage and future applications of these power systems, I have put emphasis on this specific topic abiding by all the regulations and terms stipulated by my institution. Other than that, the project initiation followed the development of a structured report for the selection of the topic. Forming a report with the standard structure required critical requirements and needs.

The selection of the topic was difficult as there were multiple aspects of modern and emerging technology in the present time (Gaivoronskaya and Miroshnichenko, 2019).

There have been a total of ten options at the primary stage of selection of the project while the rising concerns on the energy needs and application of renewable energy like solar and wind power with the storage system like grid batteries have been taken in this case. In addition to this, after the making the project briefing and the structured report, a video had to be developed in order to present the structural report in a visual manner. This presentation of the video was a challenging task as it had to be soothing and informative in the eyes of the readers.

Legal and ethical aspects according to the BCS code of conduct

Legal aspects

There are certain critical parameters associated with the legal aspects taken for the project execution. Before applying or introducing any information in the research it was my responsibility to check the authenticity of the data as per the restrictions stipulated by the legal authorities or the institution. Therefore, it was my utmost priority to comply with the challenges in research management abiding with “intellectual property rights”, “academic learning” and “integrity”. BCS code of conduct clearly states that inclusion of the websites outside the UK is subject to local laws (Kaźmierska, 2020).

Again any failure by BCS to comply with the terms and conductions does not constitute the research can overcome the restrictions stipulated or any waiver of terms and conditions (Pietilä et al. 2020). There is also mention that no terms and conduction can be enforced on the grounds of contracts relative to the Right to Third Parties Act 1999. I have considered these aspects prior to and during the conduction of the entire research to make it authentic.

Ethical aspects

The collection of information and discussions taking place on social media are associated with ethical considerations. No personal information apart from the subject should be entertained in the research was my first priority. Respecting social boding, preferences and integrity were the subjects of my focus. Considerations are also given on the management of the works associated with the team members (Varlamov et al. 2019). Social, legal and institutional norms are critically aligned with the research to check no harm on social, economic or environmental grounds would be entertained.

Conclusion

The research has allowed our team members to know their preferences, knowledge and interests in one of the major challenges of the modern world. The role of grid batteries and their uses is a highlighted topic and the research in this regard contributed to the team knowing the importance of modern and sustainable technology.

There are certain issues during the process like communication, time management, team spirit and restrictions. With our efficiency, determination, knowledge and accuracy we have executed the project and completed all its criteria. There are facts that I have learned on the path and these are the importance of leadership, acquisition of knowledge and encountering sudden issues. In the end, it can be concluded that the project taught us the right team spirit and the urge to overcome constraints.
