Reflection based on Painting

The aim of this particular paper is to write a critical reflection based on my task through which I have explored multiple ideas on painting and studied types of painting in the contemporary age. The following section intends to identify with a few pieces of literature that were helpful as major secondary source of information in strengthening my understanding of the range of paintings that I have studied and were creatively involved in.

Painting as I have learned is a form of self expression through which multiple questions can be asked the wide range of audience. It is also a form of reflection and expression through which messages and information can be shared by artists to their audience. My understanding of painting started with my creative involvement was enhanced by the effective supervision and guidance by my professor. I have studied the add works and also analyzed many exhibition outcomes from recent graduates off they’re Ruskin School of Art, the Slade School of Art and many other reputed arts colleges across European countries. The above is a small painting that I did few days ago that was inspired from climbers and the spring.

I specifically focused on expressionism and studied the works from Galenson (2018) and Jelsbak (2018). It is with my creative involvement with the visual arts and the art form of expressionism that I observed the importance of subjective emotions and responses in any form of art.  It is the role of an artist to present primitivism, fantasy, distortion, as well as exaggeration, with the help of dynamic application of multiple formal elements. This particular idea has creatively broadened my overall sense of expressionism that came in trend in the late 19th as well as in the early 20th century.  It is through my readings that I could identify with Germanic as well as Nordic art forms and that how expressionism finds its permanent tendency in both the said form of arts Greaves (2021). Factors like social change, spiritual crisis, and intense human emotions and experiences allow artists to refer to different colours and create something unique.  It is with my personal experience of studying these materials that I could strengthen my imagination creativity and overall involvement with paintings.

I was engaged in group discussions as well as individual discussion sessions with some of my peer members friends as well as acquaintances at the university that helped me to develop a vivid understanding on the different perspectives that people have on expressionism or any kind of art.  Painting for me has been the easiest form of self expression after drawing.  I have learned that painting has the ability to express the persons mind body and heart if the artist truly involves in creating the piece of painting.

I have been fortunate to have received the opportunity to enhance my creative skills by doing many paintings as well as learning to create pieces on expressionism an abstract form of art. I was able to incorporate others emotions ideas perceptions and perspectives into my art practice and compare my idea of painting and self expression with others. This helped me to identify my true style and preference of painting and that ways I can enhance my skills as an artist or as someone who is keen to strength and knowledge on visual arts in general.

Reflection based on Photography

This particular section of the paper intends to critically draft a reflective statement upon my experience of exploring photography.  This particular reflective piece is going to identify with some of the key photographers that I have studied and looked upon while pursuing my photography related task as instructed by my professors.  I was lucky and feel humble in knowing about the skills and creativity of the photographers that I have studied that helped me to widen my knowledge and vision on photography as a specific form of art.

In order to begin the reflection, I would like to state that the concept of whether photography is an art or not has been a triggering and striking element in my overall experience.  I have learned that photography is certainly a form of art that allows people to think, think creatively, think differently, as well as allow people to travel back in time and experience a specific memory that has been captured in a second.  I have studied on the Dorothea Lange, Michael Kenna, Bresson, and photographers who have been key contributors in the world or photography over the years.  One of the most important facets that I have studied on photography recently by Varvantakis et al., (2019) and Duester (2021), related to observing photography as a specific tool in political communication.  I have studied photographers and also realized that many photographs that I have seen in my life had a lot to do with social change, influencing people, sharing knowledge and information on political ideas and situations in the world.  Starting from seeing photographs or newspapers to the contemporary digitalised world where photographs have become an indispensable part of people’s life through Internet gadgets, the role of photography is immense.

I have observed that clicking a specific moment requires a lot of skill and a clear idea about the different characteristics of a photograph that make it a good piece of art.  For example the above is a photograph that I have clicked at the British Museum that had characters and required framing. I studied up about the rule of thirds, about framing, about aperture, focus, exposure, saturation, as well as natural surrounding that play a crucial role in making a photograph truly exceptional.  The influence of photography as I have observed through my readings as well as task in the university is a lot on the contemporary youth across the world.  We see photographs everyday almost every hour on digital media, the billboards, TV channels and other places.  Photographs truly influence our mind and allow us to think a certain way that the photographer wants.

I have realized that after painting and drawing the one form of art that I am mostly attracted to his photography.  It truly allowed me to think creatively and observe each passing moment as a specific memory that can be captured.  It is the true skill and decision of a photographer to capture a specific moment in time that holds value and has the ability to let people think.  as someone who is interested in visual arts I aim to invest more in photography and continue my readings and investigation on contemporary photographers across the world.

Reflection based on Short Story writing

This particular section of the paper is going to focus on my experience of starting to write a short story as a part of my assignment.  in order to begin with it is imperative to note that writing short stories has been one of my most interesting pastimes that has allowed me to delve deeper into characters and literary figures that I have studied since my school days.

I have studied the works from scholars in understanding the ways short stories are written.  Starting from reading Shakespeare to multiple other writers in the contemporary times I have been heavily inspired in farming characters in my mind and starting to write different stories on human experience situations and social change.  My idea of writing the short story has been a crucial step as it allowed me to be at my best in trying to develop a specific situation in my mind while framing a specific character going through that situation.  I have been fortunate for the help and guidance that I received from my supervisors as well as from my friends in understanding the way stories are to be written.

This particular story I have started writing recently is related to a young man at the age of 30 deciding to go to Paris.  My character Wilson is someone who has had a tough childhood and has experienced multiple sad situations in his life.  I have started my short story recently and am yet to finish it in the next few days where Wilson will be shown going through similar situations as an adult person that he has experienced as a child.  The complexities of a human mind the psychological shift from childhood to adulthood has also been some inspirational elements for me in developing my short story.  I have also studied the works from Sigmund Freud in understanding the levels of human consciousness that clear certain and specific role in managing human thoughts emotions and feelings (Stuart, 2018).

My intention to write the short story is to put a specific impact upon the readers in understanding the ways childhood experiences can have a significant impact upon a person’s adult life.  Hunger, starvation, poverty, illegal activities, separation of parents, bullying are all major factors that takes place at Wilson’s childhood that makes him extremely fragile as an adult in going through some of the similar activities after his 30s.  My ability to write the short stories has also been heavily inspired by my previous readings of scholars and discussions from supervisors and professors.  As someone who is inspired by creative and visual arts my idea about short story has a lot to do with my interest in studying literature.  Pieces from literature specifically in the Victorian age and the mediaeval have always been of great inspiration to me.  Reading George Bernard Shaw, James Joyce, Katherine Mansfield, Jane Austin has been some of the best experiences that allowed me to develop a clear understanding on handling characters once they are written on paper.
