In this assignment, I share my experience during my second-year placement when I was working in a surgical ward. I was supervised by a mentor and caring for a seventy-two years old man and his name is Mr. Khan and gentleman underwent surgery which is called abdominal. The patient was asked by me to remove his cloth for a doctor’s check-up. I help him to remove his dress under my mentor’s surveillance following a non-touch process and clean up the wound that is requested by the doctor. At this time the doctor called another patient so I was waiting for the doctor to come to see him The doctor was examining another patient and after that, she came to Mr. Khan to examine without washing her hand. Doctor The doctor wore a long-sleeved shirt and I was very concerned about the possibility of the cuffs being contaminated. At that time I was quite confused about the situation. I wanted to say something but I thought that it was late because the doctor was already examining the patient.

Feelings

I was aware of this and also expected that the doctor sanitized her hands with sanitizer or alcohol gel. At that time I felt that the doctor was a more experienced person than a second second-year. I don’t embarrass her for this issue in front of the patient and the patient would be also concerned about this issue. I also described this issue in front of my mentor. She gave me valuable advice (Brooks et al. 2018) . It helped me a lot with how to handle this kind

of situation. My mentor told me that both are discussed this matter together. My mentor called the doctor took her aside and asked her if she must hand her wash before examining Mr. khan. Her face was quite shocked when my mentor told her this issue. In reply she told my mentor, she had a very hectic schedule so she forgot to wash her hand. My mentor deliberated with him about the significance of hand washing when she examined patients in there.

The phenomenon was an extreme challenge to me. I regret that I did not challenge the doctor’s practice before Mr. Khan was examined by the doctor. However, this incident changed her habits and she responded positively when my mentor raised this issue in front of her and I was pleased with that time. This incident gave me valuable lessons on how to act positively with colleagues as a safeguard for patients to be well being.

Fact Analysis

Hand sanitizing or hand hygiene is a significant feature for decreasing multiple infections and many health care professionals should wash their hands for patients’ well-being Many researchers proved that the possibility of infection is transmitted from one person to another person. During practices, every student teaches by the healthcare profession that hand washing is the first important thing before examining any patience as a result transmission reduces during these practices and it should be surveillance by the health care profession. Nursing is an important profession to ensure minimal risk to the client or patient. Using Graham Gibbs’s reflective cycle students and mentors can analyze the situation through cognizant the root of this management and self-reflection tools (Mosher et al. 2017). Conclusion

This incident helps me to maintain healthcare ethics which I learned during my practices for my mentor and after these incidents, I was ready to tackle this kind of situation however I never felt any discomfort further about the issue. I felt free to talk about any kind of matter to doctors and doctors never mind anything and also they take it positively. They give me positive remarks because I am openly talking about this kind of issue without any hesitation. It increased my self-awareness and also enabled me to understand the cost of the surveillance process (Stephan, 2018). It helps me to overcome hesitancy to tell anyone about any matter for the patient’s well-being. In order to protect patients’ well-being, I could be acted firstly and it should have ensured that the doctor must sanitize her hand before examining the patients. I realized that my Inaction would have put Mr. Khan at risk. My mentor helped me a lot to boost my confidence about the challenge to colleagues and awareness about the well-being of patient’s forefront into my mind. I recognize that I must be a supportive staff and need to know how to handle pressures in this kind of situation and ensure patients’ well-being.

Action plan

Gibbs’s reflective model helps to figure out the action plan of mental wealth in professional exchange and applied research. SMART also helps to develop mental wellness where S stands for specific, M defined measurable, R stands for relevant, A stands for achievable and t stands for time-bound. In specific include detailed, defined, concentrate, and focused. SMART also describes precise behavior and situation tackling ability (Lapierre et al. 2018) . Measurable defines observation of the situation and measured achievable stands for objective significance is part of relevance. The frequency rate clearly stated is a fraction of the time-bound. I will gradually improve my communication skills and also improve assertive skills when working with supportive staff to ensure the well-being of patients in the future. I will set a goal and discuss this goal with my mentor about how to achieve this goal and set a plan towards the goal achieved.

Conclusion

The aim of this model is reflective of this process in a real-life scenario to use this valuable learning text. In real life, an individual can use this method to overcome their career barrier. At the end of this process, the result is highly motivated and also positive. I learned from my mentor how to handle any kind of situation without any hesitation and what is the right approach to tackle any situation in the nursing profession and it increased my confidence. It might be the conclusion of my experience that I discussed previously but it is the start of my development as a nurse, as I gradually developed confidence and assertiveness which helps me ensure the patient’s well-being. Next time I face the same situation, I never hesitate to talk to the doctor about the patient’s well-being. I have learned lots of things from Gibbs reflective cycle and I tried to properly utilize what I learned from this model.
