CAREER FUTURES: EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS

Part 1: Introduction

Employability skills are the skills that are transferred or induced in individuals in order to enhance their employability behaviors. I am             Idahosa Nakahara John from Nigeria and I have the experience of teaching in the UAE for 8 years. Presently, I am 34 years old and desire a placement in Athena Education as a marketing manager. Athena Education is a Dubai-based educational group which hires experienced and skilled employees across the world. I have participated in various employability activities such as problem-solving, self-management, technological advancement, teamwork, and open communications. Through these activities, I have learned that gathering experience from each phase of life is beneficial for enhancing personal skills and employability criteria.

Part 2: Employability Activities

Out of the employability activities performed so far, the problem-solving activity is identified as a crucial factor for enhancing employability ability. I performed the problem-solving activity by interacting with the students during my teaching period and analyzing the problems faced by them in the educational context. Based on the MBTI results, I have learned that I am an extraversion personality and I am able to sense the feelings of others before disclosing the fact. Theoretical analysis is also crucial along with the practical evaluation of a situation and hence, generating a loyal relationship with others is an important personality trait for enhancing employability ability (Bates et al. 2019). Based on the feedback I received on the online platforms and people around me, I am surprised that they believe that I am too emotional in nature and do not have practical judgemental quality. This feedback was surprising since I have always tried to analyse a situation from both emotional, as well as practical perspectives.

During the completion of the activity, I felt that though I have 8 years of teaching experience, I lack control of my emotions during my interactive sessions with my students. Therefore, there is a requirement for seeking logical explanations for every situation of life in order to enhance the capability of executing strict marketing norms. Since the desired placement goal demands a flexible personality who can manage marketing activities with sincerity, there is a requirement for developing critical thinking skills (Di Gregorio et al. 2019). Marketing management is a tough job and the manager requires communication with different parties, the ability to identify talents and predict future opportunities is significant. Outspoken personalities are preferred in the field of marketing management (Mistry, 2021). However, the marketing manager is also required to speak in a smarter and logical manner (Pauceanu et al. 2020). In this regard, I feel that I need to work on my speaking skills since speaking with the students as a teacher is different from speaking with clients and investors as a marketing manager.

In case I obtain the opportunity of repeating this activity, I would analyse the feedback obtained from different people and work on my flaws. I would do this activity differently by controlling my emotions and analysing the problems of students in a logical manner. Since I feel uncomfortable in behaving strictly with my students, I would develop the attitude of taking strict actions against unethical behavior. This development would be helpful in managing the business strategies as a marketing manager in the desired company (Fahimirad et al. 2019). Based on the overview of my activities, I have learned that there are several skills required to working as a marketing manager and I acquired some skills such as communication skills, and motivating skills. However, I lack the logical skills, management skills, and organising skills and need to work on it.

Based on the evaluation of the obtained feedback, and self-analysis, I have realised that I lack the management, logical, as well as organizing skills and these skills are significant for employability in the desired placement organisation. Therefore, I have planned actions to mitigate my lacking factors and develop the personality skills required for working as the marketing manager. In order to develop logical skills, I have planned to take actions such as conducting creative activities, asking for feedback, and solving puzzles. The conduct of creative activities can enhance the ability to think with a multidimensional perspective. Asking for regular feedback can help in analysing the lacking factors and the puzzle solving helps in enhancing creative thinking ability which is necessary as a marketing manager to handle different situations (Igwe et al. 2022). The entire process of the development of logical skill may take around 1 to 2 months  to be accomplished (McGunagle and Zizka, 2020). In the course of developing management skills, I have planned to lead teams, organise communication programs, and resolve team conflicts. By leading different teams, I will be able to obtain the experience of team management and by organising communication programs, I will be able to analyse the issues faced by the team members and resolv the team conflicts and the entire execution may tak 2 to 3 months. The organising skills can be developed by setting goals and distributing tasks to team members based on the target requirement (Lisá et al. 2019). I will also execute strategic task planning for the tasks and the entire process will be done in 3 to 4 months.

Part 4: Summary

Based on the entire discussion, I have realised that the development of self-awareness is significant for enhancing the employability skills. In order to work as the marketing manager in the desired organization, there is a requirement for gathering management skills and experiences. In this regard, the identification of the strengths and weaknesses is important. The different activities performed in order to enhance employability abilities are discussed along with the necessary development plans for improving the employability personality.
