In this context, Belbin’s team roles theory is important as it well defines team management and team’s role in the successful completion of a project management plan.

Belbin’s team roles theory

Belbin’s team role theory consists of nine roles that are required in a team in order to conduct good team management. In this context, it can be said that shaper, resource investigator, implementor, team worker are some important characteristics of this team role theory.

Based on the article by Rahmaniet al. (2021), inspired by Belbin’s team role model it has been reported that working process has happened sustainability in a construction project. It implies that teamwork has happened appropriately in construction projects as workers of that project have the characteristics that are required in Belbin’s team role theory. As opined by AranzabalMaiztegi et al. (2021), it can be said that Belbin’s team role theory divides some specific roles into team members that team members follow appropriately and its impact can be represented in the overall project.

Hence, it can be said that appropriate project management needs to follow this team role theory as it enhances organizational management by improving team communication, team bonding or overall relationship with team members. In this context, an article by Rahmaniet al. (2021) suggests that a perfect team refers to a group of skilled and experienced members that have the same vision about a specific project. It refers that, all team members have the same understanding of a project’s mission and goal.

In addition, it can be said that Belbin’s team role theory is a widely used framework as it supports employees bonding, rewarding employees for any achievement and giving other facilities for keeping up productivity. As opined by Sousa et al. (2018), it has been observed that Belbin’s team role model supports diversity in team members as it opens the door of exchange of different ideas, different cultures which is helpful for good project management.

It supports that welcoming people in teams from different diversified backgrounds helps to keep a good team bonding. It has some benefits that people from different cultures and backgrounds can help an organization to maintain project management plans. As referred by Fekryet al. (2019), the limitation of Belbin’s team role theory is no such proof or practical implementation has been observed for this theory. Hence, there is doubt that has been generated regarding practicality of this theory.

Very few case studies have been observed that has used this leadership theory. Hence, it can be said that Belbin’s leadership theory has some positive effects that improve organizational science, leadership management and team management. However, it can be said that Belbin’s leadership theory is a popular and widely used team management model as appropriate team management can help to achieve organizational growth.

The theory of Team Roles by the author Belbin is deemed as one of the most important theories that justify the team roles and their effectiveness. In order to address this phase and outline a coherent and clear narrative that discusses the opinions concerning the validity of the theory, the article “Team composition in relational contracting (RC) in large infrastructure projects: a Belbin’s team roles model approach. Engineering, Construction, and Architectural Management.” has been taken into consideration.

As per the view of Rahmaniet al. (2021), the approach of Belbin’s team roles model is considered highly effective for team composition and development. The author of this article points out the effectiveness of this theory in enhancing team performance. The consideration of the weaknesses and strengths of each individual helps the leaders of certain teams to organise their team in a manner that uses each individual’s talents and skills and fosters creative and productive collaboration.

In order to address this critical debate a relevant and suitable article has been chosen. Hence the article chosen for addressing the debate is ‘Emerging themes and theories in the sharing economy: a critical note for hospitality and tourism. International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management.’

In view of this article, it has been noted that emerging themes and theories in a shared economy have a great significance, the article revolves around the people and their behaviour in the realm of the tourism and hospitality sector. As per the views of the author Altinay and Taheri (2018), the enhanced consumer trust and reduced and downfall of the global economy in the periphery of e-commerce, as well as online payment, a huge shift towards collaborative sharing and consumption has been observed.

It has been visualised that both the factors associated with collaborative sharing and consumption are deeply associated with people and their behaviour, which are essential factors in these major shifts. The author has further presented that, as per The theory of Planned behaviour the behaviour intention drives people’s behaviour.

However, behaviour intentions are functioned by the three most significant elements which are, subjective norms, attitude towards behaviour, and perceived behavioural control. Moreover, the behaviour of people in the team setting is more effective as it tends to impacts and influence different aspects of team and leadership. However, contrary to the view of LI (2020), the theory of Communicative behaviourthat is presented by Habermasis deemed as one of the most important social behaviour and as a medium, this theory focuses on language.

It can be interpreted by the author’s claims, that this communicative behaviour theory reveals a string connection of communication that is associated with behaviours. However, as per the statements of Chan et al. (2021), the theory of Planned Behaviouris considered as the behaviours change model, that focuses on using psychological theories. The author in this concern points out that people’s behavioursis mainly connected with their psychology and the social cognition intention, belief, and behaviours are indirectly and directly linked with motivation and psychological support.

Hence, through assessing and critically reviewing three of the articles regarding the behaviours of people and their influences there are three behavioural aspects related to the people’s behaviourshave been outlined. As per the previously chosen article, it can be observed that sharing is considered as one of the most influential and important forms of human economic behaviour.

In addition, it can be reflected through evaluating the article that behaviour that is related to trust is one of the most universal and essential forms of behaviour that influences different organizational and workplace peripheries. For example, in the industry of hospitality and tourism, people and their behaviour influence many of the industrial and internal leadership factors.

Moreover, Li (2020) presents that, the theory related to communication behaviour can be effective for influencing other people and it can be utilised as a bridging tool between two individual people. It is unprecedented that, communication plays a critical role in influencing people and the overall team in different organisational peripheries. Therefore, behaviour and communication can be deemed as deeply rooted in each other. Moreover, people’s behaviour has a gerat6 impact in specific team settings.

To be precise, the excellence and failure of teamwork operations can be depended on the behavioural aspects of people and their communication as well. Various factors can influence the behaviour of people in a different team set. As per the theories discussed above, the psychological factor is the most influential for changes of behaviour regarding individual peoples.

The aspects related to leadership, work culture, and effective communication has a strong influence on people’s behaviour in different teams and organisational circumferences. According to the opinion of Chan et al. (2021), the behaviour of people has the ability to impact the external and internal environment of different organisational circumferences.

Moreover, the author states, the self-determination theory as an integrated has the ability to reveal that, why the behaviours of people can impact certain preventive measures for controlling the behaviour.

Hence, through analysing the three articles it can be interpreted that, communication plays a vital role in human behaviour, and through the effective use of communication, behavioural challenges can be mitigated. However, as per different theories that have been discussed in this debate, behaviour has different influences on a team setting, leadership, and individual people. Also, it has been noted that behaviour can be generated through various reasons and psychological factors are one of them.


Based on the overall evaluation, the people and behaviour theories and their influences on people and their behavioural changes are addressed in an effective manner. In this concern, significant articles have been chosen for developing an effective debate. In the final phase of the task, the significance of Belbin’s Team role theory has been illustrated in association with a chosen article.

A successful end of project management needs certain skills that need to b prepared at the beginning of the project. Communication is one of the major skills of project management that gives the ability the workforce to negotiate with external and internal parties in a good manner.

Dealing with external force include critical competencies where the necessity of risk management, communication and wise leadership is crucial the high on the list. Communication underlies all of the necessary task force, due to the absence of communication; project management can face difficulties that lead an organisation to failure.

Role of Shaper in Project Management

In a Belbin report, the role of a Shaper in project managementis an individual that shakes specialties to make sure that they evaluate all opportunities and that the group does not become conceited during the procedure. Shapers view many obstacles as exciting challenges, and they are not afraid to continue even when others are ready to give up and even give up on themselves (Diab-Bahman, 2021).

According to the Belbin report, this individual received more than 80% of the vote for the shaper role, which ranked first in the order of preference. Also noteworthy is that this role will motivate the team to remain committed and to continue working without losing sight of the overall goal. The primary contributing factor to the shaper’s role is that it is demanding, dynamic, and thrives under time constraints. This character possesses the determination and courage to overcome obstacles. The role’s allowable flaws are prone to exploit by those who wish to control them. This role may therefore cause some people to feel offended.

Assessment of communication based on Belbin theory

According to this theory, majority of the organisation these days face loss and get less success due to the incapability of the leaders in the field of communication. Therefore, for the need to succeed, communication skill is the prior factor that every leader and employees need to produce in themselves. Communication is the most popular response that gains popularity in the present market but it gets used quite less.

Right now about 69% of the managers still feel uncomfortable in the time of communicating with the employees (Rahmaniet al., 2021). Hence, for getting a higher sense of success every leader should spend 80% of the time to spend in the meeting communicating with the other workers.

The use of Belbin’s model is mainly relied on certain fields such as producing more benefits that can increase the amount of positive consequences through teamwork. Maximising the performance of the teamwork is the major objective of this theory, where communication has a significant role to play (Rahmani et al., 2021).

Therefore, in this study the both component are linked in a pivotal manner to consider and find the core strengths and weaknesses of every individual. Through the combination of this model and communication an organisation can organise its employees by dividing them into groups or team, those are can do better teamwork.

Based on this theory, communication can increase the power of collaboration that navigates a good relationship even in the field of tricky business. Communication put a major impact on the national economy by enabling success in large and small organisations through better project production.

The standards that are generated in the communication process need to be confidential and made on the characteristics of the objective of an organisation. A good standard of communication in the field of project management has some specific criteria, which need to be followed in order to promote success. Fact for communication is much more constructive when it comes to outsourcing (Alwaly and Alawi, 2020).

In Belbin’s model the role of communication consider as an egregious part where every can foster their talent through communicating with others. Communication can increase the scope of gaining knowledge that is more diverse on the other hand that boost up the amount of productivity (Faraji et al. 2022).

It is noteworthy for an organisation that follows a better project management framework with strategic communication skills. The procedures that include in communication are categorised under major expertise sections that follow certain guidelines. An appropriate standard of communication in project management builds a better standard of task techniques (Čabarkapa, 2019). However, the standard of the internal task of an organisation relies on the task process where commutation has a pivotal role.

Besides this, the role of technology has a strong impact on the success of an organisation. The technology transfer cases involve strategic techniques that accomplish certain necessary activities. An appropriate standard of communication can reduce the issues of cost and time span. Besides this commutation can reduce the chances of internal conflict among the employees’ ad at the same time it diminishes major internal misunderstandings (Jaziriet al., 2018).

Impact of communication on the mitigation of project management related issues

A good level of communication is one of the major components of project management; it allows the project to get progress in a well manner and mainly on time. The concept of communication has the ability to ensure the members get themselves aligned with the objective and goals of the organisation (Borkovskaya, 2018).

On the other hand, the priority of the leaders is getting changed with the idea of communication cause communication adds a diverse level of ideas. That ensures the leading professionals to working on projects only based on their criteria (Habibi and Kermanshachi, 2018).

Communication keeps the professionals informed all the time related to the tasks. That is beneficial for the leaders to communicate with the team members to ensure the success of a project. At this point, every project manager should keep checking his or her priorities in the team to ensure the work process is in a good manner.  There are various types of communication are used by the workforce, in the higher-level non-verbal commutation is used as the easiest way (de Oliveira and Rabechini Jr, 2015).


Through the entire analysis, it can be concluded that in the project management process every participant has own personal role that they need to play. In the communication process, various effective procedures may anticipate various questions that can increase the level of strategy implementation. Through analysing communication based on Belbin’s theory it has been highlighted that communication can give the opportunity to the team members to establish the highest level of professionalism while creating trust and unity in the workforce. Moreover, it has been found from this entire study that, communication strengthens several skills in leaders and employees to accomplish the goals of the organisation.
