Executive Summary

The overall study is summarized the importance of leadership style for an individual and the CEO of the firm in different organizations. In this study, the leadership skills of the CEO of the organization are provided to handle the team members for improvement of the organizational performance with an effective manner.

Additionally, this study also provided the suggestions for improving the leadership style by using the technique. This study includes the three Australian CEOs are selected for understanding the leadership style and their efforts.

The critical analysis of the three CEO’s are also described for comparing them to each other because they have different concepts of the leadership style. In this study, the impact of the leadership also defined for making successful the organisation and leadership also contrasts on the performance of the followers.

Most of the time, it is seen that the participative and situational leaderships are used by the CEO’s that make the effectiveness of the leadership style in the organisation.

The main purpose of this study is to identity the key importance of the leadership in an organisation and development of the organisation. In addition, the leadership provides support to the organisation by providing positive working environment with the improvement in the skills of the people.

 Introduction

Leadership is the action of an individual which supports to lead the group of people. To lead the people, it is necessary that people should be trust on the leader.

It supports the leader to lead due to the intrinsic force of the employees rather than extrinsic force. In the current scenario, the need of effective leadership has increased to survive in the industry due to increase in competition and the trend of globalization (Northouse, 2015).

Due to this reason, this report is based on leadership skills and has given focus towards demonstrating the skills and knowledge which are needed by the CEO of the organization to handle the team in an effective manner while improving the organizational performance.

This report has supported to analyze the leadership to determine its effectiveness. Moreover, this study also supports to recommend the ways to improve the leadership style which will remain supportive for managerial as well as academic implication.

Selected and justification

There are three Australia CEOs selected for the study purpose. These CEO’s are – Alan Joyce, the CEO of Qantas Airways, Don Meij, the CEO of Domino’s and John Gillam, the CEO of Bunnings. The reason behind selecting these CEOs is that these are successful personalities and their efforts have supported to make the firms progressive.

Critical Analysis of CEO by comparing and contrasting leadership style and leaders’ conceptualization of their leadership and success

Alan Joyce is the CEO of Qantas Airways and has joined the company in the year 2000 and took over the position of CEO in November 2008. From the interview, it was come to know that when Alan Joyce was become CEO at that time there was a situation of recession and air travel was in decline, due to which Qantas was facing a big challenge.

Although Qantas is the second oldest airline in the world but at that time span it was not as lively and entrepreneurial as Jetstar was. Alan Joyce stated that aviation industry is constant shock syndrome industry where change can be seen on continuous basis (BCG, 2010).

Due to which, Alan Joyce has focused towards utilizing flexibility and the adaptability nature in the employees while giving consideration to change management.

For this purpose, Alan Joyce uses participative leadership style. This leadership style has supported Qantas as well as Alan Joyce’s personal development.

However, in the context of Don Meij, the CEO of Domino’s, it is identified from his interview that he is focused towards utilizing situational leadership style as it remains supportive to utilize the leadership style according to the situational need (Tutty, 2015).

Additionally, he is focused towards utilization of participative leadership style which enables him to motivate the employees to perform in an adequate manner.

Moreover, Alan Joyce gives huge consideration towards communication while bringing the team members together to perform in an adequate manner. It supports to increase the positive working environment while improving the skills of the team members (Jonstibling, 2013).

CEO’s of the Bunnings is the John Gillam who made look easy the hardware warehouse. John Gillam plays a vital role in the company by providing their service to the company.

From the study, it comes to know that John Gillam has joined the Bunnings Company and be a managing director science in 2004. He helped the organization to encourage the preference and converted the brand into star Australian retailer by handling the situation and face the challenges (Bolman, & Deal, 2017).

John Gillam provided the effective leadership to the employee that increase the quality of the work and make professional them in the work. He also used the smart marketing system to make the brand image in the market by strong focus on the customer service.

He provided the surprise announcement for the strong growth and provided the nation’s largest group of the hardware. John Gillam provided successful negation with the Woolworths to become the market leader in the retail sector.

Additionally, Don Meij was the successful CEO of the Domino’s company that provided the great success to the company by their efforts and leadership style. He has provided the clear vision and innovative ideas to the organisation for this great success.

Since 1996, Don Meij taken the franchisee of the Domino’s and creates a network of more than 17 stores till 2001 (Goleman et al., 2013). At the time, company becomes him the chief operating officer and in the next year in 2002, he becomes the chief executive officer and handling the organisation effectively.

After become the CEO, Don Meij was provided the great success by providing the largest chain of pizza with the increment numbers in the store with sales increment. He provided the strategy of cultural change and distribution of the work to make success the business.

Application and critical evaluation of relevant concepts to the impact of leadership practice on organizational success

From the above critical analysis, it can be analyzed that all the three CEOs have shown great performance which is assisting them to improve the organizational performance and assisting them to create great brand image in the industry.

Effective leadership style not only assisting these CEOs to improve the organizational performance but also assisting for the personality development.

From the critical evaluation, it can be understood that different leaders use different leadership style which supports them to lead the employees in the right direction and enable them perform in an adequate manner to achieve the organizational objectives (Aaker, & Joachimsthaler, 2012).

The leadership adopted by Alan Joyce is participative leadership style. This style will help Alan to bring together the entire workforce together so that they get to know better about the policies and the objectives of the company.

The employees can also enjoy their stake in the decision-making process and gets motivated to perform better in the company. This will also help to increase their morale at a higher level as they take part in the decision-making process.

This style will give an opportunity to all the employees to showcase their creativity level and thus will in return develop more creative work processes and the company will become more effective and efficient (Randeree & Ghaffar Chaudhry, 2012).

It will also help the organisation to retain its loyal and effective employees within the company for a long period of time and will also reduce the cost of turnover in the company.

The quality of service delivered by the employees will also help the company to achieve its objectives effectively. Don Meij has adopted the situational leadership style which states that the leader will take all the necessary and vital decisions as per the situation.

The decisions are taken according to current situation. This leadership style helped the leader to increase the productivity in the company and also provide a supportive and effective work environment to all the subordinates of the company (McCleskey, 2014).

It helps to maintain an acute awareness in the organisation. The employees are further engaged in the activities and become more committed towards the company as the leader looks out for the needs of the subordinates and effectively drive their behaviour by communicating them through proper leadership style.

John Gillam has adopted transformational leadership style that helped its company to achieve success and enhance their performance. This leadership style helps the employees to take actions and resolve the issues that exist in the company.

It helps to build confidence in the employees towards the success of the organisation as a whole. This leadership style helps to bring employees together in major decision-making process and shows confidence in the choices made by the employees in the favour of the company. Further it helps the company to grow and achieve its objectives effectively (Shao, et al., 2012).

Identification of an organizational issue facing ONE of the leaders and application of leadership research to suggestions made to resolve the issue

Generally, there are different issues that are faced by the firm at the time of managing the business at international level. But at the same time, the major responsibility to face the issue and to overcome the issues is on the CEO of the firm.

It is because the CEO of the firm is the key person who handles the entire business operation of the firm and provides a right direction for the firm to get the success in the market.

The owner of the firm changes the CEO of the firm if he/she not performed well to handle the firm and the value of the stakeholders (Nahavandi, 2016).

So, in the concern of this, Don Meij who is CEO of Dominos Pizza is taken as example to discuss his role in the success f the firm and t handle the different issues that are faced by the firm during the business.

In this, it can be defined that there are different issues that firm was facing in the market and in this, the low sales of the firm was one of the major issue for Dominos Pizza that is affecting the business of the firm.

As well as, due to low sales, there was also a condition to shutdown the business of Dominos pizza. So, for overcoming this issue and to perform well, the Don Meij is selected as a CEO of the firm and now it is the responsibility of Don Meij to handle the all issues and to provide the great success of the firm in the international market (Spillane, 2012).

So, for overcoming this issue, the CEO of the firm made a plan. First of all, he analyzed the all business process of the firm and the strategy that are used by the firm. It is because for taking any decision, it is necessary for the CEO to analyze the existing strategy and the way that firm could use.

Along with this, the CEO of the firm also analyzed the other competitors strategy such as McDonald, etc that helped the CEO to get the idea bout he lacking of the firm and the way to improve the performance of the firm and to overcome the issue that firm is facing in the business.

After doing the basis analysis, the CEO of the firm got their actions. In this, the first one was to increase the product range of the firm with better quality and the services.

So, the CEO of the firm increase the product range and there are different products such as sandwiches, pastas, and side dishes, etc are added in the menu of the firm that provide the choice for the customers to choose any one of them accruing to their choice (Ward, 2016).

After that, the CEO of the firm also opened the more stores of the firm in different locations that helped the customers to reach at the Dominos Pizza. These all decisions were the great decision that are  taken by the CEO of the firm and they all decisions helped the firm to overcome the all issues that firm was facing and affecting the performance of the firm as well.

Because of this, it can be stated that all decisions that was taken by Don Meij was quite good and helped the firm to get success in the market.

Conclusion of key points and recommendations about how relevant theories and research can assist leaders to fulfil their roles

From the overall, discussion, it can be sated that in order to get the success in the market, there are different ways and the leadership styles that are used by the different leaders.

At the same time, in the concern of Alan Joyce, it can be determined that the use of participative leadership style was quite effective for this leader. It is because this is the leadership style that helps him to handle the entire work and the workforce of the firm effectively.

In this leadership style, the CEO of the firm work together with the employees of the firm as well as the he well know about the policies and the objectives of the firm clearly (Hargreaves, & Fink, 2012).

So, to work together with the employees and to have the full information about the firm policies and the rules helped the CEO to have the exact the information about the use of best strategy and the ways for the success of the firm as well.

Because of this, it can be concluded that the use of different leadership systoles like participative leadership style.

At the same time, it can also be concluded that there are also some other different leadership systems that are used by the firm as well as by the CEO of the firms to get the success in the market and to perform well.

In like manner, the situational leadership style is also one of the major and effective leadership that are also used by the different CEOs of the firm to get the success in the market.

Don Meiji is one of the major and effective CEO of Dominos Pizza that got the success in the market and provides the additional advantage for the firm by using the situational leadership style (Daft, 2014).

The reason behind to use the situational leadership style by Don Meij is that the use this style helped  Don Meiji to successfully manage the all issues that firm was facing in the business. In this, Don Meiji got the decisions according to the situation of the firm.

It helped the firm to get the success in the market and to overcome the all issues and the challenges of the firm as well.  Because of this, it can be determined that the use of situational leadership styles is also a good leadership styles for the leaders to use in different situations (Chaudhry, & Javed, 2012).

Apart from this, from the above discussion, it can be concluded that the use of transformational leadership style is also one of the major and effective styles of the leadership that can also be used by the CEO to get the success in the market and to perform well in the firm as well.

So, in the same concern of this, it can be concluded that John Gillam played a vital role in the success of the firm i.e. Bunnings Warehouse. It is because the use of transformational leadership style was the best and the effective decisions that was used by the CEO of Bunnings Warehouse.

There are different issues that firm was facing related to the employees’ engagement, management, etc that are creating the issue for the firm to successful manage the business and to develop a good customer base at international market.

So, in order to overcome these issues and to have a good decision making process, the CEO of the firm used the transformational leadership style (Bhatti et al., 2012). The use of this transformational leadership style helped the CEO of the firm to get the effective decisions.

In this, all decisions taken by the CEO was already discussed with the other employees of the firm as well. It is because the involvement of the other employees in the decision making process helped the CEO to get the effective decision and to overcome the organizational issues.

Because of this, it can be finalized that the use of transformational leadership style was one of the best and effective leadership styles decision that is taken byhthe CEO (Daft, 2014).

Eventually, it can be determined that there are different leadership styles that can e used by the different leaders as per the situation and the need of the firm. The use of effective leadership style makes easy the firm as well as for the leaders to handle the issues and the challenges within the firm effectively.
