Kolb has developed a theory of experiential learning that represents the stage of an individual learning experiment. According to the view of Bayer and Laubatan,(2017), consideration of this theory can help in understanding individual actions and a contribution to the professional and personal development of skills and abilities. According to this theory, the interview experience of participating in any event or activities contribute to the development of cognitive intelligence by providing information and observations. The four significant steps included in this theory are concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualization and active experimentation. In the words of Bhatnagar and Sinha (2018), the concrete experience focuses on understanding feelings and development while engaging with different activities associated with learning. Reflective observation focuses on reviewing learning outcomes and developing cognitive intelligence by connecting with people and challenging different tasks during an activity associated with personality improvement and development. Abstract conceptualization is associated with the generalisation of model learning experience and implemented for skill development in order to improve professional effectiveness. Active experimentation focuses on the ability to implement learning outcomes and modules and future activities for improvement and achievement of individual goals and objectives.

Jenny Moon Reflective Theory

The theory developed by Jenny Moon is associated with reflective practices by individuals that can contribute to the development of personal effectiveness and professional development by self-learning and analysis. According to this theory, the identification of appropriate sources of knowledge such as books and other learning materials can contribute to the development of cognitive Intelligence and skills among individuals by increasing their knowledge and understanding capabilities. According to the view of Bayer and Laubatan,(2017), Jenny Moon stated reflection of engaging in different learning activities is a mental process that enhances thinking abilities and anticipated intercropping appropriate purposes of using intelligence. Consideration of these theorems for understanding multiple aspects and consequences associated with learning from on reflection by focusing on comfortability, ways of developing skills and experimentation can contribute to continuous professional development by identifying personal strengths and weaknesses.

2.2 Importance of CPD for individuals and business

Continued professional development is highly necessary for individuals as well as businesses by multiple means and necessities. Focusing towards regular professional development by an individual contributes to keeping their mind and focus updated and also contributes to achieving individual goals and objectives bi skill improvement. As argued by Burns et al. (2018), the emergence of Technology has transformed traditional methods of living and business to a great extent. The emergence of artificial intelligence, virtual reality, online business models and innovative technologies required learning of new skills by individuals for adopting Technology at the individual and professional level. Therefore, it can be stated that continued professional development is necessary for businesses and individuals in order to maintain trends of changing macro-environmental aspects for aligning with recent updates.

Individual importance

The major necessity of continued personal and professional development from individual perspectives are identification of personal vision and goals, development of cognitive intelligence, surviving on the contemporary job market and balance with modern technologies. According to the view of Coakley et al. (2017), engaging with activities that change thinking and learning abilities by brain exercise contribute to the development of personal vision and goals for identifying meanings in life. Identification of personal goals contributes to encouraging individuals towards improving their skills and capabilities in the interesting field for the achievement of greater goals in life. In addition, engagement with tasks and challenges for personality development is important for improving cognitive Intelligence amongst individuals. Cognitive intelligence development is highly required for solving major life problems by analysing and reviewing crises and developing appropriate elimination strategies for leading a happy life. As per the view of Daveyand Egan (2021), cognitive intelligence is also highly necessary for improving individual behaviour in order to establish good terms and strong relationships with surrounding people for mental and emotional health and wellness.

CDP plays a significant role in increasing the eligibility of individuals for surviving on the contemporary job market by improving their skills as per requirement. The contemporary job market is based on modern skills associated with Artificial Intelligence and automation process and learning how to deal with innovative programs are necessary for surviving on the contemporary job market. According to the view of Efu (2020), taking the regular initiative of learning new skills by aligning with modern technologies improves technical and business management skills among individuals and increases efficiency as well.

Business importance

Continuing professional development has issues of importance in business in order to manage multiple functions and operational areas effectively for corporate survival and expansion of the marketplace. The key importance of CDP is the improvement of leadership skills, development of strategic options, problem-solving and risk elimination, customer retention and business growth. As per the view of Daveyand Egan (2021), engagement of organisational key stakeholders such as CEO and managers with professional development activities contribute to improving their leadership skills for the management of human capital in an appropriate way. In the words of Labib et al. (2017), continuing professional development highlights individual strengths and weaknesses and creates opportunities for improving multiple skills by helping in developing strategies and learning processes. It contributes to adopting appropriate strategies of communications and discusses with internal and external stakeholders in order to manage cultural differences and perspective differences among them. This process contributes to reducing conflict of interest amongst business stakeholders and encourages joint effort in achieving organisational goals and objectives (Elhussain and Khoja, 2020).

CPD is also highly necessary for the development of strategic options in order to maintain effective business performances in the competitive environment for availing maximum opportunities from the market competition. In the words of Gao and Ali (2019), regular engagement in professional and personal development activities improve creativity among business leaders and help them in identifying the most appropriate strategic options for developing organisational goals and strategic direction. This process also contributes to developing advanced marketing strategies for product differentiation and reducing market competition for increasing annual profit with appropriate revenue generation models. In addition, CPD increases cognitive intelligence that helps in solving business problems and challenges by analysing and regular monitoring with modern tools and techniques. According to the view of Elhussain and Khoja (2020), this process highly contributes to reducing organisational challenges and increasing the probability of achieving goals without any challenge or barriers. Therefore, engagement of organisational leaders and key stakeholders with continuous professional and personal development plans are necessary for improving efficiency and organisational capabilities of providing the best customer services.

CPD improves communication and problem-solving skills to a great extent and reflects on increasing organisational capabilities of retaining customers by maintaining good terms and conditions. As argued by Kasman et al. (2018), the increasing cognitive intelligence among business managers helps them in maintaining transparency to benefit from legal implications and government subsidies. It also contributes to focusing towards innovative strategic options identification processes for Business expansion and ensures maximum return on investment for retaining investors and employees.

3. Positions and reflections

3.1 Critical reflection on Honey & Mumford Learning   style and audit skills

The concept of the “Honey & Mumford Learning Style” theory refers to the aspect of learning in four completely distinct ways every single individual tends to prefer learning, in order to develop oneself both in professional as well as in personal level. This theory focuses on four styles of learning which are “Activist”, “Theorist”, “Pragmatist” and finally “Reflector” (Mortimer, 2017). These styles are evaluated on the basis of both the “process” and “perception” continuum. The style of activist learning focuses on the notion of “doing” tasks. The theorist focused on learning from analysing facts, information from respective theories. According to Rosengart et al. (2019), pragmatists learn from analysing what they see in reality and basically focus on perceptions. Finally, reflectors are those who seem to learn from observing people and then providing a thought of what they have observed.

Being an event manager and aiming at becoming CEO or Chief Executive Officer, I have acknowledged that in making development in both aspects of personal as well as professional I need to focus on analysing my strengths as well as my weaknesses in respective fields. I have acknowledged that being an event manager I have great personality traits such as better communication skills, positive, willing and flexible attitude. I am also highly efficient and organised and therefore is quite capable of budgeting. I do focus on every single detail and deliver precision at work and am quite hardworking. Therefore I seemed to have certain qualities in order to become a CEO, but I was still required to develop “Vision”, “Trust” and “Adaptability” in the professional sphere.

I have acknowledged that I am an “Activist”, “Pragmatist” as well as a “Reflector”. I have learned the aspect of “time management” by being an activist as I have assigned myself certain official tasks in order to challenge myself with time. This furthermore, the task helped in developing the aspect of transparency. The aspect of leadership is quite important in being a CEO, as it focuses on acting based on the people of the concerned business organization and as well helps in influencing the employees in order to achieve their desired outcomes (Yeadon-Lee, 2018). In the learning style of “pragmatism” and “reflector”, I initiated plans to mix with the employees of all the departments of the business operations in order to get a view of what the concerned employees focus on their personal as well as professional development. In this, I have acknowledged that every individual within the organization tends to have different perceptions of their development. I have also gone through the development of the business organisation, and have experienced that the value of decision making and that of delegation is quite important in order to promote successive development of the business organization within the market.

On the other hand, I have decided to negate the style of “theorists” learning style as the external as well as the internal spheres of business operation tends to change on a continuous basis such as if we evidenced the drastic effects the prevalence of pandemic, COVID-19, had on every business organisations. As argued by Evans et al. (2020), it is mentioned that pre-existing theories seem to become ineffective in most cases. The notion of pre-existing theories does not always follow coherence with the current situation.

3.2 Evaluation of tasks

The aspect of the evaluation of the task is of significant importance as it focuses on the detailed process and methods involved in the business operations as well as it provides necessary focus on the small details that require an improvement and also the identifications of the loopholes present (Al-Musadieq et al. 2018).

Motivation at work

In the workplace, the notion of motivation is quite important as it tends to develop an individual by bettering their performance at work and as well increases the level of efficiency. This further will help the business organisation to extend its market shares by the successive expansion of the stakeholders in the market. I have experienced that in order to implement the aspect of motivation among the employees, it is quite difficult. Therefore, I have taken into consideration their background as well as their present goals and objectives they want to achieve.

Values

I have an experience that most of the employees within the business organisation have grudges against the policies and regulations of the business organization, therefore, I have reviewed their feedbacks and tried making necessary changes. According to Dongoran et al. (2020), this helps in creating the notion of value and brand image of the business organisation.

MBTI or Myers Briggs Type Indicator

I have applied “MBTI or Myers Briggs Type Indicator”, in making an analysis in the aspect of personal development. Based on Putro et al. (2020), it is acknowledged that the company will be benefited if proper analysis is to be done by the use of “MBTI or Myers Briggs Type Indicator”. I got results that helped in developing my interpersonal approach towards business operation

3.3 Critical reflection and implications for future aspirations

Adaptation of appropriate learning styles to improve personal skills associated with problem-solving, decision making and time management is highly necessary for achieving success in the future. I am looking forward to adopting new skills by providing maximum concentration in order to understand marketing management and business areas in the contemporary marketplace. As argued by Kasman et al. (2018), implementation of pragmatism and activism philosophy and self-analysis along with the decision-making process can contribute to the improvement of my time management skills in order to secure a good position in the future.

The major implications I am going to adopt for future inspiration are the development of Technical skills, understanding customer buying behaviour, improving network activity and improving the effective decision-making process. According to the view of Khan (2017),  consideration of improving my technical skills associated with managing artificial intelligence software for maintaining sales and operational activities of companies can contribute to improving my professional development capabilities by continuing engagement with personal effectiveness and skill development programs. In addition, consideration of Technical skill development as a future aspiration can help in motivating towards engaging with updated software and applications for managing business problems and difficulties to ensure achievement of maximum opportunities from the market competition and being effective business leaders (Labib et al. 2017).

Providing maximum attention on understanding changes in customer buying behaviour for the development of Customer Management and retention strategies is another considered future aspiration for implementation of CPD. In the words of Labib et al. (2017), understanding customer buying behaviour will help in the improvement of customer retention and management strategies to ensure increasing of organisational sales and revenue generation process and maintaining the brand image in the competitive environment. Consideration of understanding customer psychology and behaviour can help me in improving my motivation towards continuous professional and personal development plan engagement.

Improvement of networking activities by regular engagement with key stakeholders and resourceful people has important implications for future aspirations in order to continue the development of my professional and personal skills to survive in a competitive environment and current job market. Apart from that, I am considering the development of effective decision making as the last future aspiration element to ensure improvement of my analysis and problem-solving skills to ensure the making of effective decisions to gain maximum profit (Leblanc, 2018).

4. Goals

4.1 Professional and personal development goals

Goal 1: Improvement of listening skills (personal goal)

Goal 2: Team Management skill development (professional goal)

Goal 3: Adaptation of situational leadership (personal goal)

Goal 4: Time management skill development (professional goal)

Goal 5: Technical skill development (personal goal)

Goal 6: Becoming CEO (professional goal)

Personal goals focus on the improvement of self-awareness activities and increasing effectiveness in order to ensure the development of professional qualities by balancing emotional and mental statements from an individual perspective. My personal goals include improvement of my listening skills, personality representation and learning of business management skills. Improvement of listening skills is highly necessary for understanding the views and perspectives of different people in spite of cross-cultural differences. According to the view of Lindberg et al. (2017), focusing on the development of my listening skills is highly necessary for avoiding any kind of problems with understanding while interacting with people from different cultures and geographical areas. It can contribute to the improvement of my personal effectiveness and help in developing appropriate leadership skills to manage difficult situations by understanding the perspectives and views of different people.

Another potential personal goal I am intended towards achieving is the improvement of my personality by focusing on verbal and nonverbal communication areas. As argued by McComb and Eather (2017), the culture of the international marketplace provides importance in developing appropriate body language in order to maintain respect and standard during conversation and meetings. Focusing on the improvement of my personality in order to boost my leadership skills are highly necessary for successful achievement in my professional goals in the near future. I am also focused on achieving my other personal goal, which is learning new business management skills to improve my ability and capability of analysing problems and making effective decisions (Tsay et al. 2018). I am going to focus on improving my awareness of technological development and innovative results that are implemented in modern-day business management for simplifying Organisational performances activities and maximizing opportunities from market competition. I am also highly intent on focusing on improving my technical knowledge of using multiple software and applications for business purposes (Melesse and Gulie, 2019).

My professional goals included effective time management skills, Team Management capabilities and being a Chief Executive Officer of a successful company. The goal of learning proper time management is highly necessary for achieving success in future by proper management of time and resources. According to the view of Melesse and Gulie (2019), team Management capability is the identity of successful business leaders in order to ensure the maintenance of mutual interest of internal and external stakeholders by the balance in all the minor differences.

4.2. Ways and actions required to accomplish goals

Table 1: Action Plan for Goals achievements

(Source: Nguyen et al. 2020)

The major actions I am considering for accomplishing my goal are the development of effective strategies to manage time and plan in a sequence order for the achievement of all the long term and short term goals. As argued by McComb and Eather (2017), the development of an action plan that includes strategies and resources for the achievement of goals can contribute to achieving and accomplishing long term and short term goals in an effective way. Focusing on the improvement of listening practices, engagement with maximum team works, attending business seminars and conferences along wait solving business problems challenging activities that will be considered for accomplishing development goals to achieve in the short term, medium-term and long term periods (Nguyen et al. 2020).

4.3. Current economic conditions and their impact on   professional goals

Contemporary businesses are facing multiple problems due to changes in macro-environmental factors mainly in Healthcare and environmental climatic regions. The outbreak of covid-19 has restricted the growth and development of business by controlling supply networks and engagement with customers directly with the traditional method. As argued by McComb and Eather (2017), enforcement of businesses towards adaptation of online business models to maintain social distancing and implementation of covid-19 has increased operational cost to a great extent. From the current scenery of covid-19, economic conditions are becoming worse as compared to the last few years due to increasing market competition and changes in customer buying behaviour. In such circumstances, limitation of resources and legal implementation can negatively result in the achievement of my goals associated with Careers and professional development. In addition, I can benefit from an online platform to learn technical knowledge about business management by signing into remote learning programs in order to achieve my professional and personal goals effectively (Oyenuga et al. 2020).

The increasing global climate concern associated with increasing carbon footprints and the rise of global temperature also affect business from multiple dimensions. According to the view of Passmore and McGoldrick (2020), increasing law and enforcement towards reducing the carbon footprint of companies restricted supply networks and negatively impacted business by increasing the operational cost of adopting green energy. This process can affect my goal achievement by limiting opportunities in the job market due to minimum hiring and lack of use opportunities. In the words of Ratnaningsih and Hidayat (2020), most companies are changing their organisational structure by adopting a Change management strategy to incorporate government policies associated with low carbon. Engaging with multiple projects by volunteer participation of helping companies in understanding customer buying behaviour and strategic options development will contribute to the achievement of professional goals associated with Team Management and time management. In addition, working on companies as internships will also create huge opportunities for learning modern business methods and legal implementation that has been developed due to economic and climate issues. This process will help me to understand the role played by economic fluctuations such as International exchange value and inflation rate in the operational cost of business.

4.4 Recommendations to minimize the negative impact

For the purpose of minimising the negative impact of the economic climate and global pandemic in achieving my professional goals, I can focus on developing innovative strategies by analysing all the opportunities. As influenced by Rouf and Mohamed (2017), utilisation of remote job opportunities and virtual communication tools can be helpful for the achievement of my long term and short term goals within the targeted time period. Enrollment in multiple online programs that offer technical skill development courses can help me focus on the improvement of my business management skills associated with innovative technology and artificial intelligence. On the other hand, consideration of remote platforms will also provide opportunities for engaging with team members from different cultural backgrounds and learning how to deal with them. It can help in the improvement of my team management and time management skills to improve professional and personal effectiveness for being a successful business leader. Using modern communication tools for virtually connecting with all the team members will also help in improving problem-solving and decision-making skills in order to achieve personal and professional goals respectively (Tahmasebi et al. 2018).

5. Conclusion

An intensive study has been conducted in this report that focuses on both development goals based on personal and professional aspects. With the successful application of theories and models such as “Kolb”, “Jenny Moon”, both aspects of development goals are explored. The notion of the importance of “CPD” is discussed in terms of both individual and business operations. An in-depth reflection has been conducted on “Honey & Mumford Learning style” as well as audit skills and thereby focussing on evaluation of respective tasks such as MBTI, values and many more. Future aspirations are analysed in terms of critical reflection and implication. Six goals are involved such as short, medium and long term goals which contribute to both professional as well as personal development. Moreover, discussions are conducted based on ways and actions in order to accomplish those respective goals. The current situation of deadly pandemic COVID-19 and its impacts are taken under consideration to evaluate goals. Recommendations are also provided on basis of how to eradicate negative impacts of the prevalence of the current situation.
