Introduction

Sustainable development goals are commonly known as universal call to action where it aims to eradicate the growing risk of poverty, maintain ecological balance along with ensuring that people enjoys prosperity and peace(Organization., 2016). Sustainable goals comprises of climatic change, economic inequality and zero hunger this are the sustainable goals that needs to perform by people in order to maintain peace and prosperity within the society. This essay will briefly explain about the role of civil society organisations to raise awareness about sustainable development goals and its impact on the overall society. Furthermore, sustainable development goals practiced by organisations along with its related impact on maintaining sustainability within the society will also be explained in this essay briefly.

Civil society organisation is known as a group of people who are dedicated towards performing towards betterment of the society in a way that are distinct from both business and government(Bozzini, 2016). Yes, it becomes important for the civil society organisation to help in raising awareness about SDGs in order to raise awareness about conserving and preserving bio-diversity and utilizing natural resources efficiently to maintain sustainability within the society. CSOs acts as catalyst for critical global and national agendas and helps in arising agendas in national levels so that sustainability can be maintained. The sustainable development goals shares a common agenda of defining common programs and policies along with practices that promotes the concept of SDGs among the society and helps in retaining long term sustainability within the society. CSOs within society plays a crucial role where the translate the global agendas into national priorities so that issues related to sustainable development such as rising carbon emission and duplication of resources can be tackled to maintain sustainability within society(Carley & Christie, 2017). Furthermore, CSOs also takes up responsibility of aligning programming at both national and regional level where they aims towards informing the people about the importance of practicing sustainable development so that sustainability within the society can be maintained. Through the program the CSO also imparts the useful of conserving natural resources along with utilizing it efficiently among the people so that importance of sustainability can be made aware to them.

CSO also plays a vital part in terms of imparting awareness of sustainability within the management as because CSOs monitor the daily activities of the citizens along with provide them necessary details in order to sustain the concept of maintaining SDGs within the society. Furthermore, most of the CSOs comprises of large constituency along with membership which covers the whole regions that establishes strong national network which in turn helps in raising and educating citizens(Weaver, et al., 2017). The role of CSO in civil society are also important as because they develops policy and identifies crucial development priorities which helps in achieving the goals of SDGs. CSOs as the agent also work with responsibility in terms of localizing the goals of SDGs in four key areas such as helping the poor, serving their assigned task with higher accountability, acting as a service delivery provider along with monitoring the progress through regular data collecting and reporting standards. One of the main task of CSOs is to identify the first and foremost SDG activity that needs to be performed in order to achieve the achieve sustainability. Identifying the SDG goals according to their priority helps the CSOs to perform the task systematically and achieve long-term sustainability for the society(Charles Jr, et al., 2017). The role of CSOs is not also limited to maintain sustainability within the society, but their role also consists of monitoring the daily operations of the industrials, such as amount of carbon emission emitted by them, waste disposed to the water bodies and producing industry waste. CSOs establishes policies for the organisations where they need to adhere by the rules and regulations in order to maintain sustainability within the society and keep the environment clean and clear.

The roles and responsibility of CSOs comprises of being interactive with the communities along with gathering information in order to create space, opportunities and platforms for engaging people along with spreading community awareness among them in order to maintain relationship with them and maintain sustainability within the society(Sachs, 2015). CSOs should listen to the problem that civil society faces such as in recent years carbon emission has grown by 22% in all around the world. Considering this grave situation CSOs takes up the responsibility of eliminating the growing risk of greenhouse gases by promoting the sources of alternative source of energy consumption such as solar panels and kinetic energy. Using alternative sources of energy not only lowers down the risk of depiction of resources but also it helps in conserving the natural resources which helps in maintaining sustainability within the civil society(Nilsson, et al., 2016). Moreover, the responsibility of CSOs in civil society also consists of providing feedback to the people in regards of growing greenhouse gases and ways to eradicate this issues for earning long term sustainability for the society.

Clean water and sanitation

Based on the reports of United Nation it has been identified that almost 30% of people living in this planet are deprived of clean water and proper sanitation which rises disease such as malnutrition and cholera that is increasing the amount of death in underdeveloped countries. Scarcity of water and lack of proper waste water treatment plant is creating hindrance in the path of both economic and social development. Therefore, the role of CSOs in terms of maintaining SDGs becomes important where they work towards providing clean water and sanitation in order to minimize the threat of water crisis along with improve the health of the people. CSOs also based acts towards gathering data in order to measure and analyse it so as to understand its impact on the civil society. Gathering the data the CSOs identified that during the year 2015, almost 29% of the global people lacked supply of proper drinking water along with 61% were without safely managed sanitation services(Sustainabledevelopment, 2019). As part of their responsibilities local CSO agents in all over the world during the year 2015, provided clean water and sanitation facilities to more than 946 million people. Furthermore the CSO also developed policies in local level where they set up guidelines and regulations for the industries as not to dispose waste in the water bodies. The steps has been taken in form of maintaining sustainability by providing clean water to the people living in the society. The CSO with collaborative effort with local government bodies has also set up waste management treatment facilities where they aims towards recycling the used water in order to conserve the water and use it for different purposes(Bendell, 2017). Additionally, the CSO also actively promote the concept of water sustainability within the people and for the same the CSO perform regular campaigns where they inform the people about conserving water in order to maintain sustainability within the society for longer period of time.

Partnership with local government

CSOs are also responsible towards building relationship with local government bodies in order to promote the concept of sustainability within the people. The partnership among the two aims to identify the issues that is creating hindrance in the path of development towards retaining sustainability within the society. The CSOs in the year 2017 has partnered with international community of civil society where they invested around $ 146.6 billion in order to increase the GDP of under developed nations so that people residing within the country can be provided with better medical facilities so that their standards of living can be improved(Sustainabledevelopment, 2019).Moreover, the partnership with local government also becomes essential as because it aims towards understanding the grievances of the people such as shortages of life saving medicines that can be used to treat the patient. Henceforth, working with local government always provides good great insight for the CSOs as where to invest resources along with taking steps so that sustainability within the society can be maintained.  Moreover, during the year 2016, the local CSOs of Africa has partnered with the local government where they invested 0.6% of their revenue in terms of creating job opportunities within the firm in order to grow the number of middle class people(Welford, 2016). The partnership between local government and CSOs are also important as because both of them formulates policies and regulations that needs to be mobilized by the people residing in the civil society in order to maintain sustainability within the society.

End poverty in all forms

Civil Society Organisation (CSO) are also responsible towards eradicating poverty from all around the globe and for the same the CSOs takes up the duty of safeguarding the interest of poor and needy. The data that gas been gathered by the CSO resonate that 11% of total world’s total population that is around 783 million people are under the line of extreme poverty. Further, it has also been identified that on a regular basis more than 26.9% of total world’s population lives under daily wage of $ 1.90 per day(Un, 2019). In terms of eliminating the growing threat of poverty the CSO have taken up the approach of increasing the living stand of the people by creating job opportunities for them along with provide them better salaries. The CSOs has also taken up the decision of implementing social protection system where they are trying to provide better educational facilities to the unemployed people along with provide them skill related course training so their skills can be improved and issue of poverty can be resolved. The aim of maintaining sustainability by eradicating poverty is also good opportunity in terms of maintaining sustainability within the society by providing equal chance and opportunities for all the people to live in peace and harmony(Broman & Robèrt, 2017). CSOs of local region along with United Nations has taken up the approach of reducing the poverty from global platform in order to eliminate the challenge of gender pay gap among people. It has been noted that due to gender pay gap issues poverty also rises within the society and hence for this reason it becomes harder to maintain sustainability within the society.Therefore, the collaborative effort of local CSOs along with United Nation in respect of eliminating the risk of gender pay gap also helps in maintain and sustaining long-term sustainability for the society.

Good health and wellbeing

This is considered as one of the most important sustainable development goal as because it helps in minimizing the impact of disease within the people and help them in leading a happy and healthy life. Lack of proper medicines, treatment facilities and poor medical infrastructure has led to premature death. Based on the data gathered by CSOs it has been identified that the mortality rate in under developed countries has increased by 37% which is a growing concern in terms of achieving the goal of sustainability. Moreover, it has also been noted that the rate of infectious diseases has also grown by 2.28% which is also increasing the death ratio in global scenario(Un, 2019). CSOs role in terms of maintaining good health and wellbeing becomes essential as because they are the ones who arranges for medicines and treatment facilities so that better treatment facilities can be provided to the people who are in great need. Furthermore, the CSOs also promotes the concept of sustainability through good health and wellbeing by arranging medical camps where poor people are being treated freely apart from informing the people about eating healthy along with maintaining good health. Through the medical camps the CSOs tries to inform the inform about living a better standard of lifestyle so that they can spread the benefits of good health and wellbeing and led a better lifestyle(Unesco, 2019). Moreover, CSOs along with collaborative effort of the local government has also taken up the approach of investing $ 1.5 billion dollars in rural areas of Africa so that better treatment facilities along with care services can be provided to them in order to improve the overall health system of African country. Henceforth, evaluating the role of CSO it has been identified that they plays a vital part in terms of maintaining sustainability within the society by identifying each goal and performing activities accordingly to retain sustainability within the society.

The role of Civil Society Organisation also becomes important for the management as because they actively plays the role of transforming the society by providing training and advocacy to the people. CSOs actively conducts seminars and PR programs where they informs the people about the importance of utilizing the resources properly along with using it efficiently so as to retain sustainability within the society(Day, 2016). The CSOs also informs the people about conserving the resources for future generations so that they can also use the resources and preserve it for later generation. Continuous efforts of CSOs will helps the people in understanding the growing importance of maintaining and utilizing resources which further helps in retaining sustainability within the society. Another important part that CSOs plays while maintaining sustainability within the society is to make compliance with the local government where they clearly mentions about the objectives and performance standards which helps in taking control over the activities in order to achieve sustainability for the society. Moreover, CSOs are also provided with the responsibility of planning down activities related to SDG activities which helps the firm in aligning their activities systematically so that task ca be performed in chronological order in order to achieve long term sustainability for the society(Mulder, 2017). CSOs also builds partnership with various stakeholders in order to perform the task of sustainability so that better results can be expected. CSOs partnership with Coca-Cola has proven to be crucial while jointly operating in African region. The beverage manufacturer has taken up the decision of opening up waste water treatment plant in Africa in with the aim of providing clean water to the people so that disease associated with water such as cholera and dysentery can re eliminated. Coca-Cola for the same purpose has invested around $ 1.4 billion where they are looking to store the waste water from the industries and household and store it to the reservoir. Later the water are being condensed and then are purified so that it can be made usable(Boutilier, 2017). The sustainable goal of Coco-Cola along with collaborative effort from CSOs helps the firm in maintaining sustainability within the society. Hence, the role of CSOs becomes important in terms of maintaining sustainability within the society for longer time period.

Conclusion

This essay is based upon evaluating the sustainable development goals that helps in maintaining sustainability within the society. Evaluating this essay it has been identified that the role of Civil Society Organisation becomes very important in relation to identify the sustainable activities that needs to be performed early in order to grow the society. The role of CSOs are very broad and definitive as because they acts as the median where they rise the common issues of people in national and regional level. CSOs also arranges for PR campaign and seminars where they educate the people about the importance of conserving and utilizing the resources efficiently so that sustainability can be retained within the society. CSO are dedicated towards providing clean and sanitation to the people in order to resolve the issue of water scarcity. It has been noted that people in the world do not have access to clean water as a result of which they are facing infectious diseases. Therefore, the CSOs along with local government authority takes up action in order to resolve the issues of water scarcity and provide better health condition to the people to promote the concept of sustainability.
