The concept of personal effectiveness is an approach that helps an individual to achieve their particular goals and success in their personal life. Therefore, it involves individuals’ energy skills and motivational levels to develop their personal attributes and reach the goal set by each individual. Personal effectiveness refers to the use of an individual’s own abilities, aptitude, and energy to achieve a specific professional objective. It helps individuals to advance in their careers and grow in both personal and professional life. Personal effectiveness helps individuals to improve their positive psychology distinct from negative thoughts that helps them to get motivated and achieve greater results.
Personal effectiveness is significant because it improves an individual’s efficiency in a continuously changing and active environment. It also aids individuals in managing stress at work in their professional lives, which is crucial in problem-solving. As a result, it enables the individual to go forward and accomplish greater heights without being hampered by issues, lethargy, or a poor emotional state. It is critical for an individual to concentrate on personal effectiveness in order to gain self-confidence and achieve certain goals.
The influence of Sundar Pichai’s leadership abilities and conduct on Google and its workers will be the subject of this research. As a consequence, distinct facets of Sundar Pichai’s leadership talents and behaviours will be highlighted. This study will focus on a few different areas of Sundar Pichai’s leadership abilities and actions. It will also look at the implications for Google as a company as well as its workers. Personal skill assessments will also be highlighted in the study, which will show personal efficacy as well as critical strengths and limitations. It will also outline a personal effectiveness hypothesis based on Sundar Pichai’s strengths and shortcomings. The focus of this study will be on the impact of an individual’s weaknesses on their employability and professional life.
Sundar Pichai is the current CEO of Google and its mother company Alphabet; it has been seen that Sundar Pichai has been leading the company and has a user base of more than 2 billion all around the globe. Hence, Sundar Pichai has been proven to be a successful leader in the world of business. In accordance with the studies of Danaher and EY (2020), it has been noted that Sundar Pichai is an inclusive leader and focuses on empowering the individuals that are connected to the team. The behaviours and skills of Sundar Pichai make him a potential leader for Google and have resulted in great success. Apart from that, Sundar Pichai has several qualities that make him a superior leader for Google and its employees and also helped Android to become a market leader in the smartphone industry. (Refer to appendix 1)
Sundar Pichai is one of the most renowned CEOs all around the globe as he has the basic ability and skills to work with the people in the company (Mirbabaie et al. 2019). Hence, it has been noted that Sundar Pichai‘s behaviour and skills make him different from a leader and a boss. One of the most effective skills that Sundar Pichai has is the ability to lead people to greater heights and achieve desired targets for the organization (Mirbabaie et al. 2019). For instance, it has been noted that several projects of Google such as launching Google Chrome and making it a huge success all around the globe are the success proof of Sundar Pichai’s resilience.
As per the studies of Ahmed (2018), it has been noted that Sundar Pichai has three effective skills that help him to become the effective CEO of Google. Sundar Pichai has the capability of good communication skills, effective decision-making skills, and critical thinking capabilities. As a result, it provides Sundar Pichai with major benefits and helps him to become one of the most renowned CEOs around the globe. The good communication skills of Sundar Pichai make it easier for him to develop a sufficient and skilful team. An efficient and skilful team provides the ability to Sundar Pichai to meet the desired targets set by the organization and achieve greater heights (Cui and Leung, 2020). It also helps Sundar Pichai to develop positive relationships with the employees of the organization and enhance their performance. It helps Sundar Pichai to be a true leader and focus on the performance of their employees and make decisions based on situations (Kalina, 2020).
There has been a significant impact of Sundar Pichai’s skills and behaviours on Google and its performance. It has been noted that Sundar Pichai has also become the CEO of the alphabet. Hence, it has been stated that Sundar Pichai has extraordinary skills and behaviour based on their qualities to enhance the performance of the organization. Sundar Pichai has been a successful innovator throughout the years and focuses on developing new products and services for Google (Zulfan et al. 2020). For example, it has been known that Google toolbar and Google Chrome has been a significant development for Google which is being developed by Sundar Pichai. Thus, it has been noted that Google Chrome and Google toolbar has been the most successful developments of Google that are being utilized by thousands of consumers from all around the globe. The skills and behaviour of Sundar Pichai have enabled Google to develop and focus on innovations and achieve greater success.
Figure 1: Market Share of Google
(Source: Backlinko, 2022)
Based on the above figure, it has been noted that Google Chrome has been used on several platforms with a high growth rate since its launch. The current number of people using chrome all around the globe is more than 3.04 billion individuals (Backlinko, 2022). Hence, it has been noted that chrome has witnessed significant growth in the last 10 years from 20.59% to 65.27% (Backlinko, 2022). Google Chrome also had the highest market share of 66.34% which has been significant growth for a browser (Backlinko, 2022). Therefore, it has been noted that Sundar Pichai‘s skills and behaviour have made it possible for Google to achieve greater heights in the competitive market.
Competence, professionalism, honesty, and integrity are all included in the CMI code of conduct, as well as the obligation to stay up with current best practices (Warren and Hillas, 2020). Sunder Pichai, for example, developed a detailed diversity and inclusion policy as part of his Code of Conduct, as well as for instructions for keeping political and other contentious workplace debates respectful and lawful. As a result, Sundar Pichai has demonstrated that he takes a proactive approach to workplace abuse, whether it occurs online or off (Sheehan et al. 2020). As a result, he focuses on building explicit regulations to safeguard employees from bullying, such as examples of acceptable and inappropriate conduct and ways for employees to report bullying instances.
As of Covey’s 7 habits of highly effective people, it has been noted that Sundar Pichai also focuses on this theory (Covey and Covey, 2020). Based on the above findings, it has been noted that Sundar Pichai also focuses on being proactive which helps him to develop Google and enhance his performance level in every situation. The second habit which is relevant to Sundar Pichai‘s work is being with the end in mind, it highlights the future planning of Sundar Pichai and what he plans to achieve from a particular project. The third habit of Sundar Pichai which is relevant to the seven habits of highly effective people is his practice of putting first things first (O’Reggio, 2021). The third habit highlights the capabilities of Sundar Pichai to plan and manage a particular project within a given period of time.
The fourth habit of this theory, which is relevant to Sundar Pichai‘s work initiatives is focusing on and maintaining a win-to-win situation in every project. Sundar Pichai always focuses on adapting to the attitude of being creative and finding ways to succeed in every situation of a project. The fifth habit highlights seeking first to understand, it is relevant to Sundar Pichai‘s work procedures as he is a good listener to his employees and focuses on the development of new ideas. The sixth habit is being a synergy that enables Sundar Pichai to be a motivated CEO or a team leader of Google which helps him to achieve greater success while working together (Szerdahelyi and Komlosi, 2020). And finally, the seventh habit of this theory focuses on sharpening the saw, Sundar Pichai focuses on helping their employees for self-development which would enable him to achieve greater success.
|● Creative mindset
● Good communication skills
● The capability to ask important questions
● Cannot handle work pressure
|● Development of skills and behaviours
● Joining self-development class
● Attend several marketing conferences
|● Excess work pressure
● Competitive colleague
As of the strains, I have been witnessing that I have a strong and creative mindset which helps me to focus on developing new strategies and ideas for better performance. I have also noticed that I have good communication skills based on the presentation I portray to the clients. The strength of having good communication skills provides me with the benefit of managing a team sufficiently (Clement and Murugavel, 2018). It also helps me to increase the performance level of the team with better communication among the team members. As I have good communication skills, it has been noted that I am able to ask important questions in order to determine the best marketing strategies for future performance growth.
As mentioned above in the swot analysis chart, it has been seen that one of my major weaknesses is anxiety among new people. When I offer ideas to customers, I have noted that I became seriously anxious and my fear of public speaking starts frequently. Hence, it results in affecting my presentation and affects my confidence to present the files to the clients. Even, I have noticed that I have a strong and compulsive motivation to do projects quickly and check them off my “to do” list, and thus, the quality of my work suffers (Peltonen et al. 2020). As a result, I’ve seen that my tendency for being impatient in all situations has had an impact on my work life. I also have witnessed that I face anxiety and stress when there is a lot of work pressure on me which causes my performance to drop.
As with all the opportunities, it has been noted that I have focused on developing my skills and behaviours by joining several classes that are focused on self-development. Whereas, it will also provide me with the ability to overcome and surpass my anxiety issues while speaking around several people. I have also had the opportunity to attend several marketing conferences which would provide me with basic strategic options for networking as well as offer some training seminars. Whereas, by focusing on all these personal skill appraisals I have encountered several threats. These threats can affect my professional career and my self-confidence. A shortage of staff in our organizations can affect my performance as well as the quality of work as it will increase work pressure (Ugwu et al. 2020). Based on the above statements, it has been noticed that excessive work brings me anxiety. Thus, it will also bring down my motivational level to work effortlessly and stay competitive with my colleagues in the organization.
The Ryff six-factor model is a theory that is based on the well-being of individuals’ psychology. The theory was developed by Carol Ryff which helps in highlighting the six factors of individual psychology based on their well-being, contentment, and happiness. Based on the studies of Costea-Bărluțiu et al (2018), it has been noted that the well-being of the individual psychology stage depends on the positive relationship with others. The six factors of this theory are referred to as autonomy, environmental mastery, positive relation, personal growth, purpose in life, and self-acceptance. Hence, each of these factors focuses on self-development as well as the psychological improvement of an individual in a regular lifestyle. Different individuals have different scores based on their professional and personal life in this model (Kouali et al. 2018).
Figure 2: Ryff’s 6 Factor Model
(Source: The minds journal, 2022)
Based on my personal psychological development, I will be adapting to this theory to showcase the six factors of my psychological agreements and disagreements based on the theory. As of the first factors of this theory, autonomy highlights an individual’s capability to handle social pressures based on his or her behaviours (Themindsjournal, 2022). It can be stated that I have a low score of autonomy which can be scored as 2 out of 6. The second factor of this theory highlights environmental mastery. This particular factor highlights an individual’s capability to use the opportunities effectively which includes managing everyday efforts and creating situations to benefit personal development (Themindsjournal, 2022). In this particular factor, I may be rated as 5 out of 6 as I am aware of driving opportunities and focus on developing my weaknesses into strengths. The third factor of this theory highlights the personal growth scenario of an individual, based on this criterion I may be ranked in higher numbers as 5 out of 6. I focus on my personal goals and try to pursue training and development programs for personal growth.
The fourth element emphasizes healthy interpersonal relationships. High scores indicate that the respondent is involved in significant interpersonal connections that include reciprocal empathy, tenderness, and affection (Chi et al. 2019). I am able to communicate effectively with other team members and employees because of my strong communication abilities. As a result, it gives me the capacity to create positive relationships with people, and I may receive a 4 out of 6 scores. The fifth component in the idea denotes an individual’s goal in life. Hence, high scores demonstrate the respondent’s strong goal orientation and belief in the purpose of life (Villarosa and Ganotice, 2018). As a result of my belief in self-development and attention to the future growth of my professional career, I have a high score in this aspect. I may receive a score of 4 out of 6 in this category. In terms of the sixth factor, Self-Acceptance, based on my existing skills I will earn a 3 out of 6 on this one.
My personal flaws, such as lack of confidence in new individuals and impatience when working on a project, may have an impact on my professional prospects. Based on a variety of conditions in an organization, these flaws might be a detriment to my employability chances. Employees that are consistent and focused on team-building with a high degree of performance and devotion are in great demand in today’s market (Jaiswal et al. 2019). Because of my worry and stress at work, I will be seen as a weak candidate for the organization for which I may be interviewed. As a result, I may face several rivals and persons for the same position in the organization. Thus, I can conclude that, these flaws may be a liability in my working life.
As mentioned above, it has been seen that there are three vital weaknesses that have been faced by me in my personal development criteria such as anxiety, being impatient, and being unable to handle work pressure. I believe it is essential at this stage to adopt strategies which can help in minimizing the impact of my weaknesses in my career moving forward. The key aim of the strategies would be improving my overall employability skills and also ensure that I further strengthen my existing skills. There are several strategies that can help me to overcome these weaknesses. Thus, one of the major strategies to eliminate my anxiety disorders when meeting new people or presenting any project in front of several individuals. The strategy is to work on my communication skills and communicate with new individuals from different aspects of life (Van, 2018). This strategy would provide me the confidence to face new individuals and improve my self-awareness and anxiety issues among strangers. It will also help me to enhance my communication skills among the other team members of the organization this would turn my anxiety issue into our strength. As a result, the strategy will provide me with the ability to do better presentations for the organization and enhance my performance level. This strategy also includes participation in several programs and online courses which will help me to interact with strangers and focus on interaction. It will provide me with the ability to enhance my interaction skills among strangers and helps me to communicate without any fear or anxiety.
As the second weakness, I am quite impatient in several aspects which has had negative effects on my quality of work. The strategy behind developing self-control and eliminating any type of inpatient nature from my personal behavior is the main key to focusing on doing yoga and meditation (Hennecke and Bürgler, 2020). This strategy will help me to bring peace to my mind and mentality which will eliminate any type of inpatient behaviour in my workspace. As a result, I will be able to focus on my work on a more serious note and will be able to develop my work qualities while facing excessive pressure. It will also help me to bring up my self-esteem and motivation level among others and stay competitive in the team. My third weakness is my inability to handle work pressure which is a great disadvantage and drawback to my professional life. Unable to handle work pressure is the main problem behind getting demotivated as well as being unable to compete among the team members of the organization (Hughes et al. 2019). To eliminate this weakness, I have to adapt to the strategy of developing my capabilities to handle work pressure by practicing several tasks in a single period of time. The strategy of focusing on the different tasks in a single period of time will provide me with the ability to understand the work pressure and make me accustomed to the pressure.
