In the current project, the importance of project management in the field of organising or hi programme is listed briefly. The proper importance and the contribution of stakeholder by organising the commonwealth game in the year 2014 are listed briefly. It also includes the importance of collaboration and innovation within the field of programme management.

Project description

The Commonwealth game is a high-level organisation of a platform where various countries are involved for having a healthy competition between the athletes. The sports event is sponsored by the Commonwealth Games Federation. After every four years, the Commonwealth game is organised at different locations over the world. The Commonwealth game held in the year 2014 in Glasgow was one of the high achievement project management. There is a high need for Management within this programme. It is very essential to have the proper facilities and curriculum as per the Federation requirement (O’Brien, 2018). In the year 2014, the government needed to have the proper plan and management for greeting the participating teams of the Commonwealth game. There are various programmes which are held during the Commonwealth Games such as 17 games which include approx 7000 athletes. The proper time management of every match must be projected for a healthy ceremony for opening the Commonwealth Games. The proper area is located for gathering a large number of people.

The major authority and stakeholder which have high contributed over the success of this partner’s game are listed below.

The Government of Scotland

Proper support was given by the government to have a Revolt area. This may include various policies and the proper hosting of Commonwealth games in the region of Glasgow. The government also provides approx 80% of the funding for the game. It was a high contribution done by the government to increase the reputation of Scotland.

Glasgow Council

The City Council ruling in the region of Glasgow also gives approx 20% of their funding over the games. It was a high contribution as per the approach done by the City Council. They give the proper construction and the design of the village where the athletes would breast and take place. Various areas including the social regeneration health environment and economic circumstances work properly to be examined by the City Council to provide high assistance to the participants.

Commonwealth game Federation

The whole sponsorship of the Commonwealth game is taken by the Commonwealth Game Federation. The Federation takes off all the requirements and the standards which are needed to accomplish the whole programme. The Federation gives the proper approval of the proper organisation done by the recommended City or country. Various supports and advice are also given by the Federation by taking support of the Commonwealth Game knowledge management group and coordination committee.

A proper strategy planning was developed by the committee and the government to establish a perfect platform for organising a high-level game. As per the theory of Management, every programme has 4 stages to execute the operation properly (Zighan and Ahmed, 2020). These four stages can be termed initiation planning execution and closure. The four stages in terms of Commonwealth games 2014 higher within the region of Glasgow is presented below.

Programme life cycle

Initiation: Initiation is known as the first stage of programme management. In this stage, the Government of the senior authority organising the whole programme takes to responsibility for addressing the standards and requirements of the Federation. Some regulations and Standards are fixed for the Commonwealth Games Federation which needs to be maintained by the authority of the Government of a certain region.

Planning: Planning is a term to have an organised way for developing the various programmes within the Commonwealth game. The opening ceremony, the flag ceremony and the proper time management done with the matches held between the 7000 players needs proper planning done by the authority. Effective planning helps the organisation to smoothen the flow of operation done. For example, the game was to be done in the summer season in the year 2014. As per the engagement of customers, it was expected that there would be 1 million people who will like to watch the game live. The proper arrangement for this 1 million people was planned.

Implementation: The implementation phase may include the strategy and various concerts which helps the authority to host the Commonwealth games. The budget which was designed for the whole Commonwealth game was approx 300 million euro which was one of the high prices. Dividing this budget over different programmes which will be held in the Commonwealth game was a height challenge for equality. However different strategies opted by the government and the Federation to effectively distribute the copper segment of the budget to two different departments.

Closure: The closure is the last stage of organising a programme. After the implementation of the appropriate strategy for dividing the whole budget into different segments. The whole programme is organised by the authority effectively. After doing proper arrangement the risk management is done by the authority in examining the proper bricks which can be associated with the authority and Federation. For example the proper maintenance of food and refreshment for the players is very essential in this platform. The proper refreshment needs quality food and quality drinks for approx 7,000 athletes. The medal distribution ceremony and the other programme must have proper equipment and platform to organise them effectively.

As per analysis of the whole programme life cycle, it has been analysed by the authority and Federation that the budget which was decided to organise the Commonwealth game was approx 300 million euro. When the planning was established for distributing the appropriate amount to different segments the budget was planned for about 279 million euro. With the operation was implemented by having the appropriate strategy. In the face of closure, the amount calculated by the authority and Federation was approx 379 million Euros which were not expected by the government and even the Federation of Commonwealth game.

Decision-making processes

The decision-making process is very essential in the field of programme management. There are various scenarios in which an effective decision-making process gives a great advantage to the quality and fibrillation to organise the programme effectively. The managers and the team members working over the project manager must be able to take various instant decisions to collaborate over the accomplishment of the programme. In some cases, any worker, all the team members, request leave for any reason. The manager must be capable of taking decisions by measuring the work done by him in one day. Organising the work with another employee of work is the role of manager while deciding to give the leave to the respective worker.

As per the programme established within the region of Glasgow, the area was informed to have a high need of resources. Various new companies of the local vendors who were distributing the necessity around the City start offering the items as per the high profit. In this scenario, the decision-making process has great importance in deciding the proper supplier for the items (Mottaeva, 2018). There was a scenario if the items were purchased from the other country the revenue on over these items was properly given to the respective one. The country wants to purchase the whole supplies indulge in the preparation of the programme within their own country.

It also helps in maintaining the service and product quality. The decision of taking raw material from the perfect supplier is one of the effective ways for checking the quality. In programmes like the Commonwealth Game, it is very essential to have the proper quality maintained over the food and beverages. Any violation of equality can have a direct impact on the reputation of the country.

Various decisions are taken by the managers and the superior for having the hands over the budgets (Heathcote and Baha, 2020). In many scenarios, the items which were planned during the planning procedure of the programme were under the budget. As per the high demand of the supply, some suppliers increase their prices of the material. The effective decision-making process helps the manager to make effective decisions while purchasing the items from the market within the budget.

Managers and leaders need to have the proper skills in decision making (Mulambya, 2020). Despite the above benefits, there are more which may include giving the products as per the expectation of the participants and customers within the Commonwealth game. As per the theory of decision making the decision is made either for solving any query or to grab the external environment opportunities. The programme is held to increase the reputation of the country. Therefore it is an opportunity for the leaders and manager to enhance the game platform by factoring in decision-making processes while driving the small opportunities of success at their stake.

The role of Innovation and collaboration

Collaboration is considered a principle of teamwork. It describes all functions by which a team and the team leader plan to control and execute the activities together. As per the shifting transit, it is very essential for the teams to have a proper collaboration for having effective work done (Tarasova and Carmichael, 2018). The programme which is organised by senior authorities of the Federation is held at a great level. There are various departments which organise their operation. In order to organise such a big programme it is very essential to have a proper understanding and collaboration between different departments.

In the Commonwealth game 2014, there were many arrangements which were done by the government and the Federation. It is very important to have a collaboration between the senior authorities (Noran, 2019). For example, the major standards and requirements were created by the Federation which was given to the Government of Scotland to execute them properly. Proper communication done between the government and the Federation resulted in having an effective collaboration.

Some of the major strategies which were adopted by the managers and the seniors while organising the Commonwealth game to have the proper collaboration are listed below briefly.

While organising the high-level programme the senior authorities need to give freedom over the management level to provide their different thoughts and creative solutions which may enhance the organisation of the programme (Conradie, 2020). It also helps them to feel valued and contributes towards the success of the organisation of the programme. It is considered as one of the factors for having the various Creative Solutions which can be enhanced or analysed by the authority to execute properly.

The goals and tasks which were divided to the workers and the departments within the organisation of the Common Wealth Game established in the year 2014 were properly done (Ganesh, 2019). Having a proper flow of communication between the trainer and the work for providing them with the proper direction of executing the task is very essential. Giving them proper dependencies and a timeline for completing the work also increases the collaboration between the senior level and the lower management.

It helps in making the meeting successful. There are several meetings which are done by the senior authorities with the lower management. It is a golden opportunity for these authorities to enhance the collaboration between them and the lower Management by having healthy communication. Giving freedom to the management for discussing the various issues held at the low level can help to increase engagement and collaboration while improving the areas of weakness.

As per the theory of collaboration, the decisions are taken by the senior authority whereas the work was done is executed by the lower management (Jarvie, 2017). It is very essential to have a proper collaboration between this management to have the appropriate accomplishment of the task. In this scenario, communication plays an essential role while transferring the appropriate information idea to direct the employees towards their success and to give the essential information regarding the training for completing the task.

Some of the major areas by which the collaboration between the participants working over to complete the desired project can be enhanced may include communication training shearing monitoring and changing management. Monitoring the operations done by the lower management helps in correcting them (Allison, 2017). Training gives a proper set of rules and guidance which has the lower management to have the upper hand over the task assigned to them. The communication gives a proper line of transferring the appropriate information. In the Commonwealth game held in the year 2014, the collaboration between the participants was affected. The whole programme was organised in a better form which enhanced the reputation of Glasgow city in the region of Scotland. Glasgow is considered to be the most familiar city by the name of the Commonwealth game held in the year 2014.

Innovation is termed as a skill gathered by an individual for having creative ideas. As per the various theories it has been depicted that innovation is very essential in the management of projects and programmes (Murphy, 2018). As per the tradition approved it has been analysed that most of the innovation is done at the time of delivery. Any problem or issue that occurred with the proper working of the department requires effective innovation which has to lessen the threat of the risen issue. There are several innovative tools which are provided within the market to enhance the comfort for the employees and lesson their hard work. Some of the major issues which are associated with the innovation of the individual may include the risk as some innovative ideas can be risky for the whole organisation of the programme. The lack of knowledge gathered by the workers or the individual while having the equipment of innovation can be a great threat while working. Most of the innovative ideas are implemented in situations where there is a lack of time.

At the period of the commonwealth game held in the year 2014 in the region of Glasgow. The budget with your set for the whole programme was very less as compared to the budget of London. Still, the creativity and the proper management of every activity held within the programme is termed to be an innovative way of doing things (Udoh, 2021). Linking these messages towards the platform like the commonwealth game was also considered as a great innovation done by the senior management to highlight the important issues.

Some innovations have taken place within the council game from the previous decades. The lighting of the lamp dedicates the proper opening of the friendly games between the countries. Commonwealth games are considered to be friendly games held between various countries. It is held after 4 years in any reputable state or country. There is a major role of the government and the federation of the commonwealth game to organise the programme over the region. The commonwealth game held in the year 2014 was located in Glasgow. There is a higher contribution of the government of Scotland Glasgow city council and the federation to provide the proper guidelines and organisation of the whole programme. The decision-making process helps the manager to avoid the risks and challenges while organising the programme. The innovation is used to attract the customers or the audience towards the organised platform. The lower management and senior management need to have a proper collaboration for having a successful accomplishment of the task.
